Today I got some powder for my lady parts and it has transformed how I feel.... I actually can't believe it! I have been suffering a sweaty, chaffing, post-baby, peri-menopausal, swollen mess of a down below, and wow... It has just transformed how I feel! Anyone else??!! Why isn't this talked about!!!

Fem fresh?! It's talc free and designed for the intimate area... Surely it's safe? I knew talc was bad as it used to contain asbestos...but the fem fresh is corn starch based?

No, talc is a mined mineral. Asbestos is a mined mineral. Thats where the association stops.

The lack of education on this thread is astounding.

Most manufacturers replaced talc with cornstarch or potato starch years ago.

HazelLion · 14/10/2024 08:08

These comments are funny to me. Cornstarch powder is perfectly safe. Obviously you aren't supposed to put powder on your vulva or in your vagina, you powder your groin. I've done this for years and have never had thrush. 🙄

FateReset · 14/10/2024 08:17

Femfresh talc is fine, it's not talc it's just ph corn starch etc.
Even baby talc is nolonger talc, it's maize starch.

Highly under-rated to powder down there, after all we powder our faces and underarms and clothes slide on more easily. I use tea tree 'talc' on my feet to keep them fresh and dry.

You can also get a medicated cream that turns into powder for down there!

Hmm1234 · 14/10/2024 08:49

Hope it’s corn starch not talcum powder as there have been many links to the development of cancer later on in life. Which is why using Johnson’s baby powder is sort of not a trend anymore

jjx111 · 14/10/2024 09:19

Please don't use talc on uour ladyparts. There is a known link between talc and ovarian cancer.

no, none of it is. The best thing you can do for your 'intimate area' is keep chemicals away, don't use anything that promises to 'freshen' anything, wear cotton underwear that's not too tight! Use pads if needs must and change underwear to feel 'fresh' but avoid chemicals

Somehowgirl · 14/10/2024 13:21

Foreveronthemove · 14/10/2024 03:35

Why would you want to do this? The cancer caused by talc is horrendous.

Yeh, that talc cancer is a bitch 🙄

Baby powder is cornstarch now. There's enough to worry about with chemicals in makeup, and plastics leeching into every corner of our lives without inventing reasons to be freaked out over nothing.

Get some "talc" on your bum. You'll love it.

I use vagisil as I work in a very warm environment and am menopausal and I was very uncomfortable and self conscious.
I don't understand why this is such a controversial post when it's something lots of women have a problem with. I've read a lot worse on here!
I wish I'd known about this sooner so I think it's fine to share.

Vagisil is very expensive and no different to Johnson's baby powder now that it's cornstarch. Johnson's is slightly less messy with the powder dust everywhere.

Instead of mocking and showing your obvious ignorance, try googling “Johnson and Johnson talc and cancer,” you might learn something and love having knowledge.

Lucky for some those things obviously work, but I suffer urge incontinence and all the above mentioned side effects in my original post my comfort on a day to day basis is horrendous. It feels like I have testicles at times, my vulval is so swollen (no joke!). I don't smell down there nor feel dirty, but I do feel uncomfortable and the corn starch powder is a miracle worker!!

I’ve had a horrendous summer with sweating and chafing. Doctors kept saying nothing wrong, gave me moisturisers and said keep area moist but they made it worse and it hurt to walk for weeks.
Instead I’ve been keeping the area really dry and switched to cooling sweat wicking pants as cotton actually doesn’t dry very quickly (you rarely see sportswear made from cotton). I’ve never been so glad winter is coming!

@CableCar Is the powder scented? Does it have any helpful ingredients other than corn starch? I’ve been using a corn starch powder and I can walk again without pain but would switch to Femfresh if it’s got other benefits (as long as it’s not scented)

What brand of pants do you use? I'd be keen to try some! Although I do often have to wear a tena lady for my urge incontinence so I can't help but feel that doesn't help.
Fem fresh is mildly scented, so the corn starch one may be similar or even better x

I actually looked for the femfresh powder in boots today and they didn’t have it. I don’t need it all the time, but there is a point in my peri-menopausal cycle where I think it would really help me. I need something more.
Washing, wearing cotton pants doesnt not cure the damp feeling. Sometimes less than an hour after a shower I feel like another.
I have bought some wipes which I did use before and did help slightly getting though the day.

I am literally cringing for you. You're embarrassing yourself.

I don't think it counts as embarassing when it's only people like you who are cringing.

Does the 1,000th person to mention cancer get a prize or something?

This is genius

Slightly off topic but I never understand why pads/liners are supposed to keep you fresh? Surely the ‘problem”is your bits being next to a material, whether its a pad or knickers ..you are still going to get sweaty etc?

Newsenmum · 14/10/2024 19:41

Deeperthantheocean · 13/10/2024 19:42

I used to love putting a bit of baby talc down there, still do sometimes if at a festival. If ok for baby, surely ok for adults? Smells lovely, soaks up sweat, makes you feel a bit cleaner when no other options available.

I don’t think they have it for babies anymore? Never seen or used it.

I hate pads but I assume the idea is that when one gets less than fresh it can be chucked and a fresh one stuck in, whereas you’re not going to carry around several pairs of pants a day?

As said to another poster it's not coy or childish to not want to hear about peoples genitals. Several other PPs have agreed with me. I don't want to her about testicles, scrotums, anuses, defalcation or urination either. Just because everyone does it and knows what it's actually called doesn't mean I or most people want to hear it.

Theres a reason people say I'm going to spend a penny or pop to the loo rather than I am going to defecate. Because despite it being factually true and is all knowing what you're doing anyway, no one wants to hear it.

Very well put. Personally I find 'lady parts' cute; it's usually used in a slightly tongue in cheek way anyway, so it's mildly funny in a gentle way, and who doesn't need extra humour in their lives?

Fleurdalys · 14/10/2024 19:49

I don't wear knickers as I hate them
I wash every below waist item once worn
I love a fresh Fanny powder

pollymere · 14/10/2024 20:39

You really don't need things like this. And I lost a parent to powdering private parts (cancer). Please don't risk it.

Ok... So I lost a parent due to cancer caused by talc and powder. I'm sorry you think that's hilarious

I have the BeChill range by Knotty. The knickers are nice but the boy shorts and boxers are the comfiest, I thought boxers would be really sweaty and chafey but the fabric they use is great

It's everywhere in UK supermarkets, own brands and others. Also medicated talc. Good for armpits as well. Xx
