I've booked the trip of a lifetime

DH & I have been looking for ages and after a few drinks we have booked to go on a holiday of a lifetime, however I need to tell my manager next week. I will need 3 weeks off including over Christmas /NY

I work for a smallish team and we have to split the leave between us as we can't all be off at the same time, so it will mean that some of their Christmas plans will be affected if they were hoping to have time off. I know he might tell me I can't have it off in which case I would leave my job.

I feel awkward about it but also I've just got to that point where I just want to do what makes me happy. Aibu?

can realistically afford to go 3/4 months without working.

Go for it! Mexico is fab!

@fairycakes1234 well, if we stopped to discount all of the trips I’ve booked whilst under the influence of a bit of alcohol, we’d be left with slim pickings! A drink in hand is the best way to book a holiday! Preferably a drink which makes me think of the place in question. So I’d be enjoying a lovely margarita or two (even in the depths of winter here) to book a trip to Mexico. It doesn’t make it a less worthy trip than one booked sober - it might be better to have got your days off work sorted first, and have a plan mind as to where you want to go and what you want to see, but what the heck, plan a trip drunk! My best friend and I just booked a ski trip whilst absolutely smashed on Aperol Spritzes because they remind me of the drink I like to have at the end of a fab day’s skiing. I’m really looking forward to it. My DH and I need to get our safari trip to SA sorted for next year too, probably with a glass of nice South African red in hand, after a couple of G&T sundowners.

Once again, not condoning the OP’s questionable leave-booking methodology here, but there’s nothing to say you can’t book a trip of a lifetime whilst drunk.

I totally agree, I was more saying chances are she isn't gping to do all those trips that someone mentioned as she randomly picked Mexico, I'd say she's there for a sun holiday and nothing wrong with that. SA is lovely, went years ago and would love to go back
