First 100 days

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 12/10/2024 10:08

whoever you voted for, what are your thoughts after the First 100 Days?
I didn’t vote for Labour, but I was quite excited in their first few weeks as Keir got his head down and I was excited fir change.

Now I just feel deflated. Same old….freebiegate, nitpicking, infighting. A bit depressing really.

i don’t even think there was a decent alternative really….and that’s even more depressing!!!!!

We may be in a similar financial bracket though our kids have left private school. You are clearly more savvy than us! We can’t see a way to avoid IHT and CGT and rent increases will not cover the mess left by Truss so we will lost money on our rental property. Really not looking forward to the budget. But I don’t expect sympathy!

We have invested heavily in a working farm and associated property. Take a look at the IHT benefits of doing so.

Stop beating about the bush. What do you really think of him?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 12/10/2024 16:44

I think their comms have been dreadful and they really need to sort that out.

A lot of good stuff has been done, though. Will await the budget before properly judging though.

Twistybranch · 12/10/2024 16:45

These posts are genuinely embarrassing

Even Starmer has admitted their performance hasn’t been great so far. Labour sleaze will be its downfall. Not just for the acts themselves but for the utter hypocrisy of the party and supporters.

Hope all those who are happy with them are going to enjoy paying those high energy bills too. What an absolute disaster.

The ones that began under the Tories?

Did you get a direct extra payment or £400 off the bill?

Beezknees · 12/10/2024 16:52

EasternStandard · 12/10/2024 16:51

Yeah, we all did. As a one off in 2022. Nothing else has been done about actually lowering the bills since then, has it?

Not everyone got an extra direct payment no, and it wasn’t a one off it finished last winter

Everyone got the £400

That’s not the case this year

It finished in March 2023. Nothing has been done since.

Well yes, I'm just pointing out that high energy bills have been in place since 2022 so it's not a new thing to be paying them.

Not getting any support is different to the last couple of years though, that’s all finished

Yes, it finished in March 2023! We didn't have any help last winter.

The ones that began under the Tories?

Labour said they’d bring the price of energy bills down. They said they’d use home grown energy.

Bills are rising, the energy minister flew to South America for a net zero conference and is now planking on importing energy from Korea and Afghanistan and investing in ridiculous energy policies that will make us poorer. But the rich (green lobby) richer. None of which will help the environment but they need a Trojan horse to make it palatable. The cost of energy is going to be astronomical.

Just because someone criticises Labour (on a thread about their - frankly dismal - performance in their first 100 days in GOVERNMENT) doesn’t mean they are a Tory. Student politics eh?

No for some it finished March 2024

I remember thinking blimey it’s still going when they announced it had ended. From Google this was the one that replaced the year before

The Energy Bills Discount Scheme ran for 12 months from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024

Energy bills have been high since 2022 was what I was saying. They're already astronomical!

I've just googled and that was only for businesses.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/10/2024 17:20

Disappointing so far. Drama llama Starmer. I’be not been a Labour voter, but I had hoped to be impressed and maybe vote Labour for the first time next time. I really thought they’d be doing better at this early stage.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/10/2024 17:21

I didn't vote for them but I think it's too soon to judge them. A chunk of the 100 days was the summer recess wasn't it?

This was all the support. It was billions £. If you think energy costs are still high there’s no support. But I see you are happy with Labour without that?

We haven't heard the budget yet, we've got no idea what support will be available. But yes, I'm fine without it personally, I can afford my bills. I'd rather see the most vulnerable helped, not a blanket handout to everybody who may not need it.

The lower end wasn’t blanket, it was according to income and there was extra.

But if you can afford bills why earlier posts on high energy costs? Was it bad under last gov but good under this one?

Because it's not just about me?

I was merely pointing out that you were acting as if high energy bills were something that has suddenly appeared under Labour, which is false.

You meant another poster, I’ve been posting that support was there and now it’s gone under Labour
