whoever you voted for, what are your thoughts after the First 100 Days?
I didn’t vote for Labour, but I was quite excited in their first few weeks as Keir got his head down and I was excited fir change.

Now I just feel deflated. Same old….freebiegate, nitpicking, infighting. A bit depressing really.

i don’t even think there was a decent alternative really….and that’s even more depressing!!!!!

yes very much so. Labour are very honest that they seek to punish me and my peers; who already pay mountains of tax each year already. It was already bad under the Tories…

Paying taxes isn't a "punishment". I can't stand this woe is me drivel.

PinkFruitbat · 12/10/2024 15:39

I had in mind the private school fees VAT when I wrote that. A deeply cynical policy intended to punish success

Also not a punishment. Every child should be entitled to an equal education regardless of how much their parents earn. They shouldn't suffer.

Bringing in a new tax mid school year at very short notice is deeply cynical.

I wouldn’t mind so much if the gargantuan amounts of tax I pay actually produced some positive outcomes.

But everything is broken.

That's normally how the avaricious feel when asked to part with their money. I assume you aren't effected by the state of the NHS and other services as you go private.

I do indeed pay private wherever I can.

I do think the entire education system needs a complete overhaul.

It’s not great to stir that rhetoric, even Blair avoided it for a easy to get reason, you need people to pay that tax burden

If people find what you’re saying does turn out to happen on a bigger scale it doesn’t actually affect those who leave. They’re happy somewhere new.

100% agree!

Elphamouche · 12/10/2024 16:01

didnt vote Labour. But thought it was the right outcome. Utter fucking shambles.

Thisworldisjustillusion · 12/10/2024 16:06

Happy so far, voted Labour, like the recent announcement to improve workers rights. I am fine with means testing the winter fuel payment. I work full time and am a lowish earner, with a low to average pension, so not worried at all about any changes to tax on pensions.
They seem to be heading in the right direction for me and my family.

Thepeopleversuswork · 12/10/2024 16:11

I voted Labour. Probably will again and will never vote Tory. I am still cutting them a bit of slack and I think there’s time to turn it around.

But I don’t think it’s been an auspicious start. They have given the impression of being defensive, disorganised and very downbeat. Everyone knows there’s a huge black hole in the economy. Hitting people repeatedly over the head with this is not a progressive platform and they need a bit of vision and leadership.

RobinStrike · 12/10/2024 16:11

I think they've made an ok start. Could have done better but their PR is dreadful. They have listed things they've done here:
And Starmer has posted this

https://x.com/keirstarmer/status/1844987776741278119?s=61&t=708dEnn_EkpuN3JVBO9mR8A

I think half their problem is they don't have a planned list of what is being announced when. Crossing the Employment workers rights legislation with the investment event is stupidity, but both events are good.

RobinStrike · 12/10/2024 16:13

I hope I've got the screenshot this time

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but the screenshot just won't show.
I didn't want to post the twitter link, just the screenshot.

I'm waiting for the budget. Voted Labour even though I didn't think it would benefit me. I am happy to pay more tax if it means better services. Little bit worried about the 20k ISA allowance. I do feel disappointed in the news regarding gifts and donors.

SpidersAreShitheads · 12/10/2024 16:23

@RobinStrike this is the screenshot you were trying to share I think?

@SpidersAreShitheads that's it! Thanks. I've no idea why it wouldn't let me attach it.

Zanatdy · 12/10/2024 16:30

voted labour, delighted with 7% public sector payrise, by far the most i’ve had in 24yrs service.

of course many won’t care about all those good things, they only care about the VAT on private schools

cheezncrackers · 12/10/2024 16:34

They've shown themselves to be just what I expected, as someone who remembers the last Labour govt. Just as the same as the Tories, just more sanctimonious with it.

SpidersAreShitheads · 12/10/2024 16:34

I don’t think Labour has got everything right but they’ve arrived and got stuck right in, and are making their presence felt. Someone said it feels as if grownups are back in charge of government finally, and I agree.

It’s almost as if people have forgotten just how awful the Tories were, and the level of corruption. The fact that Boris gave no fucks about people dying from COVID and said “let the bodies pile up”.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but the determination by some to undermine and pick fault with Labour, and particularly Keir Starmer, beggars belief.

The Tories wrecked our economy and sent a steady flow of cash to their pals in shady deals. Their poor decisions and lack of care means hard decisions need to be made now. That’s not on Labour.

Its like a load of children smashing a load of glassware and then blaming the adults who come in to sweep it up and chuck the broken bits away.

I want to see the NHS fixed. I want to see humane, moral governing from politicians who actually care about the electorate.

I trust Labour to do the right thing, even if it’s not always popular. I don’t agree with them on everything but I think fundamentally, they at least try to make decisions for decent and honourable reasons.

Probably worth adding that I didn’t even vote for Labour so I’m not some kind of blinkered fan. I have hope they can gradually sort out this mess, even if it means pain in the short-term.

PickAChew · 12/10/2024 16:37

I didn't vote for them but they have made some very good moves, so far.

Most of the freebies froth seems to be coming from people with very short memories.

Yerdawasasausagemaker · 12/10/2024 16:39

Hope all those who are happy with them are going to enjoy paying those high energy bills too. What an absolute disaster.
