Bigger boob's as you get older

Has this happened to anyone else?

Im 40. I've stayed at pretty much the same weight that I always have been.

But my boob's have gotten so much bigger in the last two years. They are huge. Im all boob!

I've never had children so it's not to do with breastfeeding. Is it something to do with perimenopause? I wish I knew what goes on in our hormones!

No, mine definitely haven’t got bigger. It surprises me that people are saying it happened to them at peri/menopause because one would expect the loss of oestrogen to have the opposite effect.

My quick googling suggest about 1/5 women say their boobs get larger around menopause.

This is interesting. My DD is 19 and has very little breast tissue at all. She is very small and slight, and has previously had an eating disorder (though is currently doing very well on that front). She gets a bit depressed about her boobs and it affects her confidence. I had assumed the size she’s at now is set as obviously she has finished puberty, but interesting to think there could be further changes.

Mine grew when I went on the pill and again when I had babies, but DD currently has no plans to go on the pill or to have babies. I realise that sounds contradictory but she is into women so no need for the pill, and doesn’t see herself having a baby.

As a teenager I was really flat chested and was teased for it, lots of fried egg/ironing board type comments. I wished and wished for bigger boobs, now I would cheerfully strangle the genie that granted that wish!!!

Things may well change for her especially if she can gain some weight. My BMI was under 20 until I was 19/20ish, as I have gained weight the majority went on my boobs (until middle age when my belly decided to get in on the act).

RampantIvy · 11/10/2024 16:24

Nope, not here.

Wish44 · 11/10/2024 16:43

roughly same weight I have always been. Boobs have just got bigger and bigger with each child. I think I look ridiculous now.

I too am all boobs. They have a mind of their own! They frequently make a bid for freedom from my bra, I am fairly sure they are sentient.

CheerfulBunny · 11/10/2024 16:47

Yeah, it's true. I was happily a b cup until my mid thirties when they increased to a d. Still mainly a d but I've lost "volume" somehow at the top. Hard to explain but I can't wear those moulded cup bras and bikinis anymore because they're empty at the top IYSWIM? I sometimes think I'm getting generally scrawnier in middle age - with a thicker middle 😑

Blarn · 11/10/2024 16:59

Yes. Pre-dc I was a DD, after dc and breastfeeding they settled to a FF. I am now 39 and in the last couple of years have gone to a G and the bra I am wearing now is a HH. I did gain weight but only a smidge of that went on my breasts, the noticeable jump in size happened after I lost a bit of the weight. I wish they were slightly smaller and really don't want any more growth.

Wonderwall23 · 11/10/2024 17:00

Not to the extent of others on here but still true for me. I've always been skinny and flat chested. I'm still the same bra size but they are noticeably fuller and with a bit of padding I actually have a cleavage!

Having been underweight for years I've finally put some on since turning 40. I've done nothing different other than age in that time. The weight has gone to my boobs and hips and I'm happier with my body than I've ever been. It's a shame I can't put my 25 year old face on my 42 year old body! The face is not faring so well...

notatinydancer · 11/10/2024 17:20

Boobs not boob's. Sorry.

Lulu1919 · 11/10/2024 17:25

Yes I went from flat chested ..like 32 AA to now needing at 55 a 38B

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/10/2024 19:07

Until I had kids in my 30s I was a 34 C more or less. 16 years and 2 stone later I'm a 42E.

TreesWelliesKnees · 11/10/2024 19:32

Apparently there's a process called involution that happens around menopause and essentially turns dense breast tissue into fat. I had what a pp called 'ballerina boobs' - firm, small and round. Now they are soft and a C rather than an A, with a teardrop shape. Clothes don't hang as well and I need a bra for the first time in my life.

Showmethebagels · 11/10/2024 19:55

Hotafternoon · 11/10/2024 10:30

I'm 38 GG now and can't see to cut my toenails any more as they really get in the way.

Started as 32A as teenager and just kept getting bigger. 😱

I'd love my chest to be smaller so I could wear tops that don't make me look like I have a shelf under my chin.

Menopause definitely didn't help. 🙄

I could have written this. I’m so depressed about it. The worst thing is finding clothes that don’t look ridiculous. I’m not on HRT and losing weight doesn’t help as it comes off my bum and thighs.

ViciousCurrentBun · 11/10/2024 19:56

I was a B cup till post menopause, I weigh about half a stone more and am now a D cup.

DataPup · 11/10/2024 19:59

Suzuki70 · 11/10/2024 10:01

I'm hoping mine don't do this. I've just hit my 40s and I'm already a 32FF...

I've been a 30f since my teens and mine haven't grown more in my 40s thank goodness (46 now)

GettingStuffed · 11/10/2024 20:05

Wait until you go through the menopause, they deflated like hell. A doctor told me it's because your milk ducts shrink as they're no longer useful. I've gone down from an HH to a G in a couple of years.

suburburban · 11/10/2024 20:11

Mine haven't unfortunately

MsCactus · 11/10/2024 20:20

Not sure if this is the same, but I was flat cheated before having babies. Had my daughter, didn't breastfeed, yet my boobs grew from an A/B to an E cup and didn't go back down once I lost the weight.

Now pregnant again and they're getting even bigger. Same thing happened to my mum - she looked ridiculously big boobed after her third. I'm hoping mine don't stay a lot bigger each time

PlumpCatIsBestCat · 11/10/2024 20:57

Yes i had maternity bras with my son and I've just kept wearing them. And now they are small. DS is turning 4 next month and I'm likely in peri as I'm 41.

Fozzleyplum · 11/10/2024 21:06

56 here and a year post menopause. I haven't gained any weight, but my shape has changed. I was always vaguely pear shape, but quite slim, with a B/C cup. Now, I'm a column with a C/D cup, narrower hips and slimmer legs. It's seems everything has shifted upwards. The plus side is that it's much easier to buy jeans that fit.

HebburnPokemon · 15/10/2024 08:45

I've just started taking a peri menopause vitamin supplement.

What was it please?

HebburnPokemon · 15/10/2024 08:49

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/10/2024 09:43

Wait til your 50s when your gut catches up with your boobs

Is general (non-boob) weight gain inevitable in menopause? (Thinking aloud!)

HebburnPokemon · 15/10/2024 09:12

Roundthemoon · 11/10/2024 09:59

As I always feel about the human body, nature doesn't make much sense.

Why don't we just grow breasts after we have a baby. Why have them all the time for no reason whatsoever.

I'm sure I read somewhere that other mammals only grow breasts after they have a baby.

Not sure if anyone has answered this but (anthropologist here), it's because our ancestors used to breastfeed each others' babies. Even post-menopausal women can lactate for this purpose.

It's not to turn on men 😑

RaraRachael · 15/10/2024 10:37

I just feel that hauling around these massive appendages in my 60s is so pointless - my back aches, no clothes suit me and I'm disgusted at the sight of them.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/10/2024 11:13

Just to add to your concerns, can you imagine what it's going to be like if you live to 130...
