To ask if you like Jeremy Vine?

I’ve been hearing a lot about Jeremy Vine lately, and I’m curious - do people actually like his style of presenting? I find he can be quite polarising, with some loving him and others not so much. AIBU to ask what others think about him and why?

Not sure whether to pick YANBU or YABU, but I can't stand the bloke.

He is an obnoxious, opinionated, arrogant twat IMO. He screamed at a woman live on TV who said she had voted for LEAVE in the Brexit poll, and he is obsessed with insinuating that cyclists can do no wrong. EVER. Also, he is an annoying champagne socialist ...

(Re; the 'Brexit woman,' whatever you may think of Brexit, this woman didn't not deserve the hysterical rant, and bashing she got from Jeremy Vine - live on TV.)

Loathsome, irksome little oik he is.

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/10/2024 17:28

I like him less than I used to @ArtfulSwan. He's OK enough, but more dumbed down and less witty than I thought he was.

ShellFace · 09/10/2024 17:31

I like JV. I used to listen to Radio 2 all day long on weekdays but now JV is the only programme I like. Occasionally, I think he's not listening properly to his guests but otherwise, I enjoy the chat, the debate, the range of topics, and his daftness.

Wishingplenty · 09/10/2024 17:37

I think he has a somewhat endearing personality, a bit like a bumbling buffoon that is a bit awkward!

Ameliasvocalfry · 09/10/2024 18:18

derxa · 09/10/2024 16:26

You’re right. Storm is equally annoying in that regard. ‘Eat less meat to save the planet’. Oh wheesht hen

I cannot stand Storm's interviewing style, so argumentative - and the look of outrage on her face if anyone dares to disagree with her sanctimonious points of view.

I think he is a genuine guy.

ThePoshUns · 09/10/2024 18:26

He's awful. Cannot bear him or the idiots that ring into his show.

goodluckbinbin · 09/10/2024 18:27

he’s the worst! But I often can’t be bothered to switch over…

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 09/10/2024 18:27

Yes l like him. .. and his radio 2 show.

Mumteedum · 09/10/2024 18:28

Hahaha.... he's a patronising nob. My dear departed Dad used to say that he was thick as two short planks too but thought he was clever 🙈

Attelina · 09/10/2024 18:30

I loathe and despise him. His lies got the lovely Alex Belfield jailed.

coldcallerbaiter · 09/10/2024 16:32

So much better than Matthew Wright was in the same C5 slot (he was obnoxious to callers). I do not mind JV, he is humorous and comes across well to me.

I agree - I like JV on 5

RaraRachael · 09/10/2024 18:55

I purposely never turn on the radio when he's on.

Can't stand the faux 'oh so what's this about then' when discussing pretty much any topic that has potential to be controversial. Also anyone who gives regular airtime to the misogynist prick that is Owen Jones can get in the bin.

WillowTit · 09/10/2024 19:10

i dont mind him sometimes
i like the music he plays
the public who ring his radio show can be really annoying.

WorriedRelative · 09/10/2024 19:25

YABU to have to ask, even his brother seems to think he's an irritating twat.

WorriedRelative · 09/10/2024 19:30

I would recommend a listen to "Jeremy Vine Agony Aunt" if you can find it anywhere, it was a brilliant parody BBC put out one Christmas.

Also the All Saints Jeremy Vine mash up of Never Ever. Hilarious

WorriedRelative · 09/10/2024 19:33

This will hopefully work for the All Saints mash up

I had this conversation this morning with my friend at work! He's a total knob, can't stand him..but the discussions are so interesting I usually have him on...every day 😄.

I hate when he plays devil's advocate and says something just completely ridiculous that would never happen or no one could possibly think!

We listen to him and get really wound up when he tries to make a phone in about the most random thing thst happened in the news.
Like a year or so ago, an aquarium sort of exploded in a hotel in Berlin iirc and he said phone in if something similar has happened to you!! 🙄
And the stuff that is clearly unsuitable for radio because you need to see what's happening and he's doing sone exercises for example and puffing and panting and badly explaining what's supposed to be happening!
And he was a really big shit stirrer during covid when everyone was panic buying stuff, he literally had an article on it every day....which I'm sure just encouraged more people to think things were running out!

Too much. Reasonable years ago but now just a giant ego.

I love Yasmin Yalhibi -Brown.

Like him, can’t stand her.

Savingthehedgehogs · 09/10/2024 19:40

I used to like him, but he changed and started ramming his opinions down our throats. Brexit, bikes, van drivers. Shame as he ruined an otherwise good radio show by making it unnecessarily political just like the whole of the bbc… impartial it isn’t!

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 09/10/2024 19:41

YANBU; not at all.

BeforetheDawn · 09/10/2024 19:51

Circumstances have meant I've listened to his lunchtime radio show a lot over the last 10/12 years. I started off feeling completely neutral, then got quite fond of it because it was comfortingly familiar and then began to notice more and more that bothered me.

In a nutshell, he's disingenuous as fuck and a stealth misogynist. He frequently pretends to be all wide-eyed and ignorant about a certain topic (and it's usually something to do with women - like women not wanting to go out running after dark in winter for example) and he's all 'oh gosh, this never even crossed my mind!' and I think, well mate, I've heard almost the same discussion on this show a couple of years ago so either you have amnesia or you're talking shit.

He made a comment during a discussion on the footballer Ched Evans rape case that made me literally go cold inside. I can't remember what it was but I remember, viscerally, how it made me feel, and I thought - 'you pretend otherwise, but you are not a good man.'

EveryKneeShallBow · 09/10/2024 19:52

Thick, and over full of himself. I got the impression his news night colleagues were heartily sick of him and glad to see the back of him. Typical BBC over promoted white male.
