To ask if you like Jeremy Vine?

I’ve been hearing a lot about Jeremy Vine lately, and I’m curious - do people actually like his style of presenting? I find he can be quite polarising, with some loving him and others not so much. AIBU to ask what others think about him and why?

I quite like him but then I often ride a bike.

I ride a bike (and hate cars) and I can't stand him. He's in the wrong as often as he's right in his biking videos, yet he ALWAYS blames the driver!

I like him - but appears I'm in the minority 😅

He occasionally irritates me but on the whole I like his radio show and he comes across as a decent sort. I've never watched his TV show so can't comment on that.

I like him too! I don't agree with everything he says (or does), but on the whole I think he's alright.

kerstina · 09/10/2024 15:52

No I don’t like him. Smarmy and patronising I would much rather Storm Huntley presented it all instead of him on his show on channel five. Also preferred Mathew Wright . I think you can tell JV is a Tory too even though he pretends to be neutral. In the same way MW was the other way which I liked 😂

Can’t stand him, he’s an obnoxious twat and a total show off. (Also he’s a total prick when in comes to his entitlement when riding his bike).

Said it better than I could.

derxa · 09/10/2024 15:57

He is irritating but watch his TV program every day. He secretly wants to be a comedian like his brother Tim.

FondOfOwls · 09/10/2024 15:59

BitOutOfPractice · 09/10/2024 15:44

Jeremy Vile? It’s a hell no from me.

100% sums him up.

Sensationalist, entitled, can't use his brain...!
I used to watch him a few years ago, but he's been steadily getting worse.

Also don't like Storm, they are both up themselves and don't realise their privilege. Plus they're following the TWAW way, don't even get me started.

Wellingtonspie · 09/10/2024 15:59

Nah he comes across as a right knob.

faffadoodledo · 09/10/2024 15:59

I think he does an ok job given the format is clearly to prod callers with a sharp stick.
I hate the laziness though in always getting in the same 'outraged' guests - Nina Myskow, Yasmin Alibiya-Brown and that old copper Peter Somethingorother.
And Dr Sarah Jarvis is v annoying. I never quite forgave her for labelling people with scoliosis as 'hunchbacks'.

AW24 · 09/10/2024 15:59

Nope 👎

OutrageousImmoral · 09/10/2024 16:00

No. I can’t bear him. I work from home and have radio 2 on in the background all day apart from 12-2.

MatchingBedding · 09/10/2024 16:01

No.

CombatLingerie · 09/10/2024 16:03

No he’s a shit stirrer.

Hatfullofwillow · 09/10/2024 16:04

I don't like him or his simplistic understanding of, well, everything. It's almost like he's still that privileged git, who was churned out of Durham with a 2:2 knowing nothing.

How he's remained so ignorant after a pretty impressive career in journalism is astonishing.

Not the worst Jeremy we've had on TV though.

MyUmberSeal · 09/10/2024 16:04

I can’t stand him. He’s righteous, tedious and his voice alone makes me want smash the tv up when I hear him. When he gets on one over drivers and starts filming them, I am willing a driver one day to just call him a fucking bellend and maybe gently (but quite hard) push him off his bike.

kerstina · 09/10/2024 16:06

I like Yasmin Alibya Brown , always nice to see her on the JV show. Did anyone watch the other day as thought she was going to explode at some of the comments by that right week journalist with longish red hair. Polar opposite views on the Israeli war.

Same! He seems like a good egg to me. I think he purposely winds people up on his radio show, usually for a bit of fun. He does a lot for Motor Neurone disease and Parkinsons' charities, I think because his Dad died from Parkinsons. I love his brother Tim - funny without being offensive. He's also got a sister who's a talented artist.

HalloweenPart10 · 09/10/2024 16:14

I record the radio show every day, then if Scott sodding Mills is particularly annoying, I replay JVs show… it’s the lesser of 2 evils I find ( plus you can fast forward any silly discussions he has!)

Radio 2 certainly ain’t what it used to be!

Hedgesfullofbirds · 09/10/2024 16:17

Must admit that I find him irritating for some reason which I cannot put my finger on...

Plus he is very city centric and has an astounding lack of knowledge of, and ignorance about, rural affairs, agriculture, country living and the natural world - perhaps that is the source of my irritation!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 09/10/2024 16:20

I like him and his output, whilst also seeing him as anboften annoying and flawed character. In that way, I suppose he embodies the BBC for me.

KnittyNell · 09/10/2024 16:24

LunaNorth · 09/10/2024 15:47

I still miss Jimmy Young and the Legal Beagle.

Not to mention Terry, Pete Murray et al.

You’re right. Storm is equally annoying in that regard. ‘Eat less meat to save the planet’. Oh wheesht hen

I say this just about every day: Jezza is a good presenter/host - and obviously the big name - but the (in comparison), much less household-name Storm is way, way better at the job, and much more balanced; and I would gladly see her do the whole show (albeit it would be a long time for one main presenter to focus).

I did wonder if C5 were keeping their options open when they started to give her equal billing, rather than just a 'JV extra'. If Jeremy does decide to leave, she's right there and more than ready to take the reins.

Agree, he loves winding people up and playing the fool. He’s actually very intelligent and knowledgeable. He dumbs himself down for his audience, plus some viewers don’t realise he’s often playing devil’s advocate. It makes for entertaining viewing. There is a forum which reviews U.K. shows, and it seems to solely exist just to knock JV. They seem to delight in insulting him. Some of the comments are so hateful and ignorant! If they hate him that much why don’t they just reach for the remote?

PaininthePreferbial · 09/10/2024 16:30

He did make me laugh, once, years ago, but apart from that I find him nothing more than a wind up merchant with a pathetic 'sympathy' voice when someone's talking about a dead rellie. He's faker than Trump's tan.

BBC radio is becoming more and more difficult to listen to.

VimtoVimto · 09/10/2024 16:31

I never used to mind him until the run up to Brexit, although his guests on the subject were reasonably balanced the callers on phone ins were all elderly, male Brexiters. They would make comments that were obviously untrue yet he didn’t question them.
