To ask if you like Jeremy Vine?

I’ve been hearing a lot about Jeremy Vine lately, and I’m curious - do people actually like his style of presenting? I find he can be quite polarising, with some loving him and others not so much. AIBU to ask what others think about him and why?

He's not impressive because he fails to listen to the callers. He often asks them something that they've already told him only a few seconds before. (I know most of the callers are incredibly annoying, but that's not the point).

Hotafternoon · 09/10/2024 16:31

Really annoying and interrupts too much. Tend to turn the radio down when he's on.

Shame as he does have some interesting topics on at times.

coldcallerbaiter · 09/10/2024 16:32

So much better than Matthew Wright was in the same C5 slot (he was obnoxious to callers). I do not mind JV, he is humorous and comes across well to me.

MonCoeur · 09/10/2024 16:33

I find if you're going to listen to a call-in show, Nicky Campbell is much better, At least he actually listens and seems to understand mot subjects. Seems very empathetic too. I'm not a fan of radio call-in shows in general, but his is better than most.

Saltedbutter · 09/10/2024 16:33

For me, the jury is out on him as a person but I quite enjoy his show at lunchtime.

wickerlady · 09/10/2024 16:36

We switch R2 off 12-2 😖

I'm not keen on his radio show but then I like the Patrick Christys's show so...Grin

Same!

Marinel · 09/10/2024 16:52

No, I don't like him. He doesn’t listen to the person he’s interviewing, and he misunderstands and misrepresents really simple points. And as others have said his show is very tabloid and shallow, I find him a major irritant and I stopped listening to him earlier this year. I never watched his C5 show, it's bad enough listening to him never mind having to see him too!

OneBadKitty · 09/10/2024 16:57

Jeremy Vine is what the Daily mail would be like if it was a Radio Programme.

I presume NC must have changed dramatically since his days on The Big Questions on Sunday mornings on BBC1, then.

It was a 'traditional' Sunday show, based around discussing faith and moral issues, but he would frequently mock and belittle any guests of a religious persuasion - however calmly and respectfully they put their personal perspective across - if he happened not to share their opinions or beliefs.

Except they hate him, they hate anyone who stands up for cyclists

ScrambledSmegs · 09/10/2024 17:05

No I don't like his style of presenting so I don't listen to him. No real opinion on him as a person though.

Tooty78 · 09/10/2024 17:05

Cannot stand him, but his brother is one of my favourite comedians😄

Mylittlepea · 09/10/2024 17:06

Nope, can’t bear him. Have to turn the radio off when he comes on.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 09/10/2024 17:06

Paddy is brilliant when he stands in for Jezza; as is Tina (and as was Vanessa).

Often, TV/radio shows are a bit disappointing when the main presenter is on holiday and you get a replacement, but not a bit of it with those two.

vincettenoir · 09/10/2024 17:07

I like him but I don’t think his C5 show or his R2 show are great vehicles for him. I mean neither of them are good shows, which is probably key to it. I preferred him on Eggheads.

NPET · 09/10/2024 17:07

He's just another entitled middle class man.

LorettyTen · 09/10/2024 17:08

Can't stand him, but he loves himself so much it doesn't matter if nobody else does

Yes, I remember that show and yes, he does seem to be much better these days! That said I only tune in occasionally as it’s not really my thing.

User100000000000000000001 · 09/10/2024 17:11

I had this conversation this morning with my friend at work! He's a total knob, can't stand him..but the discussions are so interesting I usually have him on...every day 😄.

I hate when he plays devil's advocate and says something just completely ridiculous that would never happen or no one could possibly think!

Klippityklopp · 09/10/2024 17:15

Absolutely not. Watched a very early episode where he was fawning over Roxanne Pallet when she came out of CBB after trying to ruin a man's life and was disgusted at the way he was with her, it actually came across as quite creepy the way he was with her.

Proved he is in no way a professional presenter

Downplayit · 09/10/2024 17:18

Can't bear him! His views are the result of an over-privileged background and it's a shame he is given such a strong platform for them.

bracemyselfagain · 09/10/2024 17:19

Nope! Total knob!

Never thought I'd say it ... but I'll take Matthew Wright (The Wright Stuff) any bloody day.

OhshutupSimonyounobhead · 09/10/2024 17:23

Yes I always like to listen to him on radio 2. I don't think he comes over in the way described here
