Time for a new PM and Chancellor?

1000 replies

Whenwillitgetwarm · 06/10/2024 09:13

I wrote this on another thread but feel it should have its own thread.

Although I voted Labour (the current Tory’s are too insane), I think it may be time to swap out Starmer and Reeves. If this is done early, there’s enough parliament time left to bed a new PM and Chancellor in.

They both lack ideas, seem confused, no vision etc. They had 14 years to think up workable plans. Coming in and throwing their hands up saying there’s no money so they can’t do anything is very poor. They want to continue austerity on the sly. They indulge in stupid culture wars like VAT to rob Peter to pay Paul (and Paul won’t see a penny anyway). They have bad advisors and are arrogant. It looks like they are just excited to have the job titles and don’t know what to do.

Get a top two who will come up with a bold plan. We’re in the gutter so there’s opportunities to deliver quick wins. They don’t always need funding, simple policy changes can make big and quick differences. If they gave each department a target to deliver one quick legislative win by Christmas, we’d start 2025 differently.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with two people who can’t believe their luck, and who are afraid of the Daily Mail, Murdoch, some loud Redwall types and bots on X who wish our country economic harm. They are weak.

If Labour were a football team, there would be fans screaming for Starmer to be sacked now.

This is not about getting rid of Labour. I believe there is talent in the wider party, much more than in the Conservatives who hollowed out their party under Johnson. Nevertheless I just don’t think Starmer and Reeves should have their roles.

How instant did you expect the results of smashing the gangs to be?

I thought it required setting up new bodies, employing hundreds of people etc and so measuring the outcome 12 weeks in is a bit previous.

What bodies are they setting up? Isn't it the NCA who are responsible?

I swear if all the country’s woes were eliminated tomorrow and a gold ingot was delivered to her doorstep Easternstandard still wouldn’t be happy.

You’re wrong there I’m happy.

Happier than most, lucky me. You all sound a bit aggro and unhappy mind you

And I can see the public opinion on Starmer is closer to where I was pre GE so all good.

Freeyourminds · 06/10/2024 17:56

@Summernightsinthe21stcentury
I meant to say, l completely agree with your comment.

Efacsen · 06/10/2024 18:02

Sadly almost ideal weather for crossing the Channel in a crappy rubber boat this weekend - grey damp and without wind so hardly any waves - nothing at all to do with KS not 'smashing the gangs'

Very windy next week so will not be fit to set out - will that be evidence of KS staring to 'smash the gangs' I wonder

Why all good ? Why would someone gloat that a democratically elected government is so hated that some are calling for it to fall ? Surely you want our country to prosper and be less divided and our government to do well ? How weird.

Did you join in for the last democratically elected gov? Or did you only post nice words. Not that mine are bad I just don’t agree with the pro Labour mn majority on these threads about their policy.

And it seems some of that is starting to show, I don’t know why it took so long to scrutinise it.

Of course it’s bad if they fail to get growth, this will feel like a tea party

But I’ll see how it goes.

VeraYin · 06/10/2024 18:20

I'd be glad if Starmer went. Surprised he's got time to attend Parliament when their are designer clothes to collect and flash homes to loaf around in.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/10/2024 14:24

Yet they seem to be unraveling in these five bloody minutes.

Sue Gray has resigned as Chief of Staff.

Her reasoning is that she has become a 'distraction' - eg yet another reason being used to batter Starmer.

The hysteria the media are stirring up is really quite concerning for the state of politics in this country, in my opinion.

Whether people like him or not, he can't do the job he was voted in to do if people keep dreaming up new ways to attack him 24-7.

It's just pathetic, honestly - especially after years of having Boris's antics downplayed. People are acting like he didn't spend nearly a million of our money to decorate his office!

Why would you be glad if he went? Also the amount of donations he has accepted is a fraction of those Boris and the Tories have accepted.

Im not aware he has missed any commitments to attend parliament although Boris had history for skipping Cobra meetings

Sorry, what now? There's so many metphors in that post that I can't see the wood for the trees. I asked you a question: how did Sue Grey undermine Boris Johnson and his government over partygate. An answer would be nice.

I won't address the strawman fallacy you're creating with your question. Questions are dismissible. Arguments are statements. My post was a statement pointing out the irony of Grays position and the result of her inquiry into Boris's administration and now her involvement in an equally corrupt churlish Labour Party.

If we follow Gray's position during the conservative administration, the logical conclusion should be the resignation of Starmer's newly formed cabinet, as it has been proven that they have been taking bribes, misleading parliament, and the electorate.
The deputy Priminster is dancing about on a stage.
It's all rather embarrassing.
In a government that is less than 10 weeks old.

Nothing has changed, it's the same old thing.

BIossomtoes · 06/10/2024 19:00

If it’s been proven, maybe you could share the proof with us. I’m sure we’d all like to see it.

According to Labour it will be. Yvette Cooper was trying to take the credit for the lower number in September but unless she has learnt how to control the weather it was nothing to do with Labour "smashing the gangs." September was one of the wettest and windiest since records began in the south east.

Notonthestairs · 06/10/2024 19:07

It was the wettest September for a long time. Not the windiest.

It would at least give them an opportunity to utter the Tory battle cry of 'Gordon Brown sold off all the gold'

Crystalbits · 06/10/2024 19:09

I’ve come to the conclusion that quite a few of the posters on here would be quite happy to see the government fail, the economy collapse, more riots, pensioners die etc just so they can gloat over labour voters.
We can be sure that one thing Labour never did was take us out of the EU, biggest act of self harm ever and which has damaged our country for decades to come. Nowt to do with Labour.

pointythings · 06/10/2024 19:11

This is a statement that requires evidence. I look forward to seeing it.

As for 'dancing on a stage' being embarrassing - that's just you being judgemental about someone having fun on holiday, which is really pretty pathetic stuff.

If this does happen it’ll be more than a few Freebies headlines and Labour will be responsible. Everyone will be angry, well bar a few on here maybe.

And perhaps they’d get out somehow to minimise damage

I didn't see that post, but as a guess is it referring to Angela Rayner on holiday?
If so just shows how we see things different ways, as I saw her holiday pics in the media and thought "good on her" - not embarrassing at all.
I like a drink and a dance on holiday too.
Far rather somebody relatable and who seems down to earth in power than stuffy private school suits with no idea of real world struggles.

You really hate them don’t you. I guess if you’re Australian the patriotic loyalty just isn’t there and you really couldn’t give a shite.

I'm astonished that people can look at that Tory advert and fail to see money.

They can't.

They just pretend they can.

Like they pretended the Tory's did a lot of things when in power and failed to notice all the chaos around them.

People can see whatever they want apparently - it's "their truth" 🙄😂

Enjoy.

I like Starmer. The Tory press is out for him. So what, they're sorting the shit out. It was never going to be pretty.

He's got to stop giving ' the Tory Press' ample fodder. Labour have got to take the initiative and stop being on the back foot all the time. Whatever 'good' Labour is doing is being drowned out by gifts/donations/Sue Gray shenanigans. They need to get their PR machine working on what 'good' they are doing.
