My baby has fallen victim to North Korean propaganda!

I left my 17 month old baby at my mother's home when I went to a afternoon party with DH, and left DD17mo with my tablet, opened on the youtube app.

I come home, and some strange music is playing, and DD is clapping along happily and swaying a bit, and my mother is smiling, swaying along + cooking a casserole.

I peer at what's playing on the tablet, and it's this:

My current guess is that it appeared as a recommended video and DD tapped it (she's good with these things - even laptops!)

DM was singing 'key shown oon' along (she's not really in touch with current affairs/news, had no idea this was a dictator, and thought it was some sort of ad DD had looped.)

Then I was scrolling the BBC on my laptop, with DD beside me, and she sees Kim, and starts smiling and giggling.

I'm not sure if I should be irritated or amused Grin

Why the fuck would you leave your dd with a tablet when she is a baby??

How do you think other parents managed before tablets????

Are you ok ?

Are you ok ?

I first saw kids with ipads in restaurants to keep them occupied about 10 years ago; and they've been used in cars (same purpose, obv) for at least as long. Horse is quite out of the barn.

I don't use a washing machine, or an oven either, because people throughout history have managed without.

You leave a baby in front of the television?

mum shaming is gross. yes I leave my children infront of the television how else would I physically have a single second of the day for myself or to make them dinner, run them a bath etc.

Catsbreakfast · 06/10/2024 00:03

You shouldn’t do that either

Says who?

Tracyblot · 06/10/2024 05:17

A 17 month old in front of a tablet which their grandmother is evidently in fact not monitoring the content of is pathetic, but its up to OP if she's happy with that isn't it.

Scirocco · 06/10/2024 05:48

I suppose he kind of looks like a baby. Maybe she thinks he's like Cocomelon.

She'll find a new dictator to be friends with in time.

oh those parents were superhero’s! They don’t make parents like that nowadays.

i presume you don’t have a washing machine, used terry nappies, carried your babies strapped to your back, not like these modern mothers that use pushchairs?

Oh but for the good old days!

Nothanks17 · 06/10/2024 06:14

Hahahaha, sounds like a sketch off a comedy show.

Tell/educate your mum about what she is singing and find another catchy song for your DD to sing.

As for screen time, thats your business unless you was asking for actual advice about it which you wasn't.

Don’t be so ridiculous, it’s terrible for children’s development to stick them in front of these things, absolutely awful for their socialisation, their eyes …. The only person who benefits is the parent

People getting judgy, calm down!
Why should people not judge? It's not good for the baby.

Nonsense. I was putting DS in front of the TV 40 years ago (original Thomas the Tank Engine, he loved it). It was great for his vocabulary development, and he's done very well indeed subsequently, socially, academically and career-wise.

thats funny

Hallamlass · 06/10/2024 06:37

Have you tried videos of Putin's speeches?

Hallamlass · 06/10/2024 06:40

sunnyinthevalley · 06/10/2024 00:11

No one is laughing at North Koreans, just the fact that DM is singing a north korean song unknowingly, and DD is dancing along.

Maybe if the USA hadn't bombed North Korea into the stone age things would be a bit different, I don't know?

They bombed them into the stone age? Then hats off to them for producing videos of any description.

Katielovesteatime · 06/10/2024 06:41

sunnyinthevalley · 05/10/2024 23:49

NO ONE IS FINDING NORTH KOREA FUNNY!

What I found funny is DM singing along and DD wiggling and clapping for propaganda music.

😂😂😂

I think it's funny OP. This post also made me laugh!

A lesson learned - don't ever try to share a joke on MN because people LOVE to pretend to be perfect on here and lose all sense of humour in favour of appearing superior 😂

Hallamlass · 06/10/2024 06:42

When I was small, I used to like listening to Harold Wilson, according to my parents, and I asked for a pipe.
Didn't do me any harm, although I've been a lifelong Labour voter, which will divide opinion on here.

SundayBloodySunday · 06/10/2024 06:46

Utterly hilarious, OP. Ignore the negativity. This made me really laugh. Especially the thought of your mum singing along

sashh · 06/10/2024 06:46

If it wasn't for the video it could be a Eurovision entry.

Mamma2346 · 05/10/2024 23:46

It's really not funny. If you have to use YouTube then use YouTube Kids and only make approved videos available - blippi and nursery rhymes or whatever. YouTube is a slippery slope and your baby could be tapping on all kinds of inappropriate and scary rubbish. There's no end of parents who complain that their small kids are addicted and influenced by YouTubers. It's best to lock down your devices as much and as early as possible.

Tbh, YouTube Kids isn't exactly great either. Mind Rot TV. All those Mine Craft videos and droning on commentary about absolutely nothing.

I prefer Disney + to either YouTube channels.
