My baby has fallen victim to North Korean propaganda!

I left my 17 month old baby at my mother's home when I went to a afternoon party with DH, and left DD17mo with my tablet, opened on the youtube app.

I come home, and some strange music is playing, and DD is clapping along happily and swaying a bit, and my mother is smiling, swaying along + cooking a casserole.

I peer at what's playing on the tablet, and it's this:

My current guess is that it appeared as a recommended video and DD tapped it (she's good with these things - even laptops!)

DM was singing 'key shown oon' along (she's not really in touch with current affairs/news, had no idea this was a dictator, and thought it was some sort of ad DD had looped.)

Then I was scrolling the BBC on my laptop, with DD beside me, and she sees Kim, and starts smiling and giggling.

I'm not sure if I should be irritated or amused Grin

Well that’s your algorithms fucked now and you’ll be on some sort of watchlist 😁

@Sethera
No you wouldn’t. But how anyone can derive any amusement about the horror people living in North Korea have to deal with is beyond me.

No one is laughing at North Koreans, just the fact that DM is singing a north korean song unknowingly, and DD is dancing along.

Maybe if the USA hadn't bombed North Korea into the stone age things would be a bit different, I don't know?

It's a ridiculous North Korean pop song, not a documentary!

and there we are. As we thought. A pro North Korea poster in the guise of ‘haha how funny.’

it’s not funny. Grow up and educate yourself

MatLeave · 06/10/2024 00:13

It means you need to get the little one the NK hair style 🤣

BluebellsRoses · 06/10/2024 00:15

I thought it was funny OP - it certainly gave me a laugh!

And I watched the video and it is loads of people smiling and having a rousing sing song - that's probably better for a child than a cartoon!

The judges are out in force so I just wanted to give you some support. No one else knows the situation or is in a good position to judge you. I'm sure that like everyone else you are trying to keep the screen time as minimal as possible (and it's probably a lot less than people are assuming too), whilst also keeping up with all your responsibilities and maintaining your sanity.

I enjoyed the laugh - especially the one of KJU winking!

Oooh, now OP is some sort of North Korean propaganda mole. The plot thickens ...

Don't get me wrong, the kims are monarchial dictators, but if you wanna call me a commie, I don't mind.

Ignore the comments about YouTube OP.

My 6yo loves watching YouTube on their iPad.

Great story. Grin

Is taffy the same as toffee? & you can make it from potatoes...every days a schoolday on mn.

user98786 · 06/10/2024 00:22

What's sad in this thread is not the baby watching YT, it's the awful responses of posters with no sense of humour when s mom just wants to share a funny anecdote

In fairness, those dishes look quite nice! A tie-in recipe book might be a best-seller.

When I saw the thread title I thought it meant your baby had become a Moonie. A relief to know she hasn't.

Tell us about the casserole!

NoisyDenimShaker · 06/10/2024 00:27

OP, I thought your post was funny. Your baby will be fine and you're a great mum doing their best, like most mums. Some people just live to pounce on others online. You can say the most innocuous thing and some Negative Nelly with social challenges will say something nasty. If I posted that the sky is a beautiful blue today, someone would post that not everyone's skies are blue and to check my privilege, blah blah, yawn yawn.

There are quite a lot of trolls on MN. I wonder if they know just how boring and predictable they are.

Bloody AIBU.

This is hilarious, OP. Thank you for giving me a good laugh.

And, for the benefit of the dim ones at the back, I'm laughing at the phrasing of the OP and not the subjugation of the people of North Korea, obviously.

PontiacFirebird · 06/10/2024 00:34

i find it really sad when people shove tablets and phones in front of babies to keep them quiet. Sorry. But then tablets and smart phones didn’t exist when I had babies so I had to be a Perfect Parent (TM) I guess…and yeah I had plastic toys that lit up and made noises and all that shit and kids telly when they were toddlers but seriously, tablets and phones are not good for babies. It’s pretty common knowledge, surely?

EconomyClassRockstar · 06/10/2024 00:34

I'm 50. I thought my generation had fucked up so much with our children's generation that literally everyone on the planet knew you didn't put on YouTube for your kids anymore. You mean, we were ok all along?! Phew!

BBCLW · 06/10/2024 00:37

Buy your daughter a portable DVD player instead, and invest in DVDs of Bagpuss, The Clangers, Bod, Fingerbobs...

That's what we did with ours and it worked a treat. No North Korean propaganda to be seen.

Choosenandenough · 06/10/2024 00:41

I hate mumsnet sometimes I really do. It suck’s the bloody life out of you.
