Just inquisitive.. my best friend has always been obese. About 22 stone. I have worried about her health silently for a very long time.. she started Mountjaro in April and is now 14 st. I am completely thrilled for her . Her blood pressure is now 'upper' but not ' see your healthcare provider' .. her heart 'murmurs' have ceased.. I am worried that when she come to the end of her treatment she's will just gain it all again. It is without a miraculous drug.. she has struggled to afford...she is incredibly good with money and financially planned every inch of her journey so that her treatment equalled less than her cost of food consumption.. but only in the short term ( she planned 8 months but goal in 6)

My AIBU is ..I see the amazing difference , she is so happy for the first time in a long time after years of weight watchers, slimming world, Cambridge diet.. low carb, NHS gastric band..(15 years ago which helped but only ever got her to 16 stone before piling it back on) .. she has found one of the Mountjaro providers who will prescribe a maintenance dose...

But she can't afford it long term. It will be £189 per month without a discount.. AIBU to say I can pay this for her. She is my very best friend . I love her new found sense of self confidence.. and don't want it to go.. the money is not an issue for me . I am extremely comfortable and struggle to spend. However would love to help someone I love very much.

Just for complete transparency I had crept over into 'unhealthy' zone as also had osteoporosis in knees. Also took Mountjaro for 2 months and know how incredible it is. I have kept it off for 5 months without a maintenance dose .. it just reinforced healthy eating recipes for me . . But I haven't been morbidly obese

As lovely as it sounds, no. Mixing friendships with finances is never a good idea. Your friend will find the money to continue the injections. Most people do when it’s something that really matters to them.

For anyone who is in any doubt as to why some people end up on jabs ,do have a read of the what I ate today “ in that section. This is 1 poster who is ON weight loss jabs! “ B - seeded protein bagel with cottage cheese and a fromage frais.
L - dairylea dunker, packet of crisps
D - pot noodle (couldn't be bothered cooking for 1... oops)
Snacks - a bite of a slice of pizza from the kids tea, 2 finger kitkat.
drank 4 pints of water and 1 x pepsi max. going to have another pint of water now before hitting the hay.”

Your friend should look into whether she can get this wonder drug on the NHS. Doctors are prescribing to help people get back to work. The government is hoping this will pay for itself in taxes.

I wonder how much salt and sugar fats is in that is in that. It's insane the convenience market is killing us. This reminds me of the programme you are what you eat and yet people still don't heed the warning. It's easier to make excuses than to take responsibility and make the changes that will help them in the long term.

The salt content is very high.

You might be getting lighter but not healthy due to large salt intake

it's not what i personally ate, it's from a particular thread ,where people are often eating very strangely despite only being able to eat a small amount(where good nutrition is absolutely crucial)..i just think its so sad that even when driven to use injections some people still are unable to be kind to their body. there is a wider problem that also needs addressing for some.

This is one snap shot. You cannot extrapolate this to a whole cohort. And of course, as you have demonstrated so well, we can always find evidence for shoring up our bias if we look hard enough. And are sad enough to,

Ah I see, thanks for clarification

That comment was in relation to a previous series of discussions where someone was asserting that everyone is eating well on wlj and is unable to eat badly ….it’s not just one snap shot though and ,again, people have to understand that wlj are not a cure all …. those people who will succeed with them have to make changes to their calorie intake, food choices and exercise. It’s not “sad enough” to want people to make better choices. There is no “single cohort “ of obese people rather than a series of people with different reasons and approaches but as it is sometimes stated by people that those taking WLJ have “ tried everything and know how to eat healthy “ then it is relevant when there are people who obviously don’t .

I lost almost 3 stone in 3 months without any medication, just dietary changes. 6 in 6 with a very powerful drug doesn’t seem that clever. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What did you do in 3 months?!

How did you get Mounjaro if you just crept into the ‘unhealthy’ zone? You need a BMI of 30 to be prescribed it.

Or have a Co morbidity. Or lie.
I got mine due to high BP and my BMI was 28.
