Why do people post every single day about their holiday on Facebook?

You know the ones who go away and give you a blow by blown account every day on what they are doing, where they are eating etc, sometimes multiple times a day.
Are friends expected to read it all and like every single post?

What happened to privacy, what happened to telling people about it when you get home?
Not against it totally, but several times a day, what's wrong with them?
They seem unable to enjoy a holiday without broadcasting every single thing. It's horrible the way FB has got to some people!!

I know what you mean , I generally like the odd holiday photos but recently a friend has posted several every day , the journey at every stage , here they are going to the airport , here they are checked in now having breakfast , boarding , landing etc
It's too much so I don't respond to all of it .

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 04/10/2024 13:23

I don't know anyone who does that. Facebook is all advertising now and local neighbourhood groups.

loropianalover · 04/10/2024 13:23

Some people love to post and share, others don’t. People are different and won’t always understand each other. Some people love getting the likes and comments, some people love having the memory to look back on 5 years later.

It’s their account to post as they please, you can always mute them/hide them from your feed.

MarilynSays · 04/10/2024 13:23

Some people aren't aware that some insurance policies include clauses that could void coverage if you're found to have been reckless with your home's security. Publicly posting your location or evidence that you're hundreds of miles away could be considered a breach of these terms. (found this on bpp media via Google search)
So I do a photo dump when I am home, one post, done!

ParentOTeen · 04/10/2024 13:24

Agree with the odd pic...however it strikes me as:
"here are all my holiday photos...my house is completely free to break in to for the next 2 weeks"!

I was going to say that also. Everyone knows your away.

I know that but why must tell everyone everything all day and is everyone interested?
Would they not be able to enjoy it if they weren't on FB for the duration?

Everyone who can access my Facebook knows anyway. They are me actual friends, who I’ve told. I’ve never seen that clause, despite people rolling it out repeatedly - and since my account is private I’m not entirely sure how an insurance company would know what I was posting…

familyissues12345 · 04/10/2024 13:29

I hate seeing it, for reasons already outlined in this thread - it's advertising your house as a great place to rob!

I only ever do one post, at the end of the holiday. Even then I limit which photos I upload, no one needs to see the same shot taken at slightly different angles ConfusedGrin

I normally do a post a day in the evening. It’s for me as much as anyth8ng, but my Facebook friends ar ejust that - friends - and they are (mostly) interested, as I am in theirs. It’s better than the old habit of running everyone through all your holiday snaps in one go and in person. At least they can scroll by on Facebook if they aren’t interested.

I’m honestly not sure what you want me to say other than to repeat that not everyone will understand each other.

Maybe Mary gets a rush from getting 10 likes, maybe she genuinely wants to share the Chinese restaurant they went to 3 times, maybe she’s delighted to be away with her grandkids. Maybe she’s addicted to FB, maybe she wants to show off her new holiday wardrobe.

Maybe she would enjoy a screen free hol, maybe she wouldn’t. Everyone’s just different.

Is everyone interested? Obviously not. Mute/hide if it doesn’t interest you.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/10/2024 13:31

Share away, I say. I don't ever put anything on Facebook, but I love looking at other people's snaps.

NahNotHavingIt · 04/10/2024 13:31

I have two different friends who have recently retired and are always on holiday.

I love reading their FB posts to see what they're up to most days.

If I didn't, I'd hide them from my feed 🤷‍♂️

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 04/10/2024 13:31

I have a few friends who do this and I’ve unfollowed them so I don’t have to see all the photos and updates. Just have a quick look at the feeds every few weeks.

fairydolphin · 04/10/2024 13:32

I dont get it either- going on holiday?- fab, thats great- love to see a photo or two but I dont need a daily update about what you are doing! "here's me drinking coffee", "here's me by the pool" "here's me drinking cocktails" "here's me at dinner" its a bit cringe.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 04/10/2024 13:35

I like it, I enjoy seeing my friends have fun and sometimes it gives me inspiration for where to book our next trips. If it gets a bit tedious I just scroll on by, but on the whole I like seeing people having fun. We can afford plenty of nice trips of our own so not sure if this is part of it.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 04/10/2024 13:36

I bet one or two posts but when I see multiple updates (via WhatsApp as I’m not on Facebook) I do wonder if they’re actually having a shit time. If I’m having a great time I don’t want to stop to keep updating people like it’s a reportage.

LeoOakley · 04/10/2024 13:40

I think the way people use FB has changed. I rarely see a blow by blow account of anyone's holiday anymore and I've unfollowed the irritating accounts.
I mainly use it for groups I am in and find it easy to unfollow or mute anything that clogs up my feed. Try doing the same if it grates - though I personally quite like looking at holiday pics. 😎

Jesusmaryjosephandtheweedon · 04/10/2024 13:40

Recently I've really enjoyed various memories popping up from 7/10/12 years ago and I realise I don't post much at all anymore. Now I'm going to start as I want those memories to pop up every year. It's not about you. Let them do what they want and if you don't like it then unfriend them.

DrCoconut · 04/10/2024 13:41

For some people it's a form of not so humble bragging. Look at me sunning myself while you peasants are at work.

Fizbosshoes · 04/10/2024 13:41

I have a friend who goes on hundreds loads of fabulous trips to places I know nothing about, and could only dream about going. I find it interesting and quite informative, and i mainly enjoy seeing it, but sometimes feels a bit overkill if its multiple times a day.

Needmorelego · 04/10/2024 13:42

Because Facebook is a person's online diary/scrapbook.
They can post what they want.
You don't have to read it.

exprecis · 04/10/2024 13:43

I have a family member who does this with her day to day life. Hit its peak the day she posted a photo of herself and her child waiting in B and Q. I wish I was joking.

Isntshelovely2024 · 04/10/2024 13:44

Do you know what I love seeing other people’s holiday photos. I have a lot of Facebook friends who I purely keep in touch with online - old school friends etc. I love to see what they’re up to and get ideas of where we could go next.
If you don’t like maybe remove them from your feed or get off social media?

Needmorelego · 04/10/2024 13:45

@PassingStranger what do you put on your Facebook page?
Out of curiosity.
