Why do people post every single day about their holiday on Facebook?

You know the ones who go away and give you a blow by blown account every day on what they are doing, where they are eating etc, sometimes multiple times a day.
Are friends expected to read it all and like every single post?

What happened to privacy, what happened to telling people about it when you get home?
Not against it totally, but several times a day, what's wrong with them?
They seem unable to enjoy a holiday without broadcasting every single thing. It's horrible the way FB has got to some people!!

Like lots of other people I use my FB as a sort of diary, it's where I store all my photo albums and I take so much joy from looking back on all the memories. On holiday I tend to post every evening, usually when I'm lying in bed, just to back up that days photos. Not sure how that means I can't possibly be enjoying my holiday - that doesn't even make sense. I think some people really can't stand seeing other people happy or enjoying life though, but that's probably more of a reflection on them.
I love looking at other people's holiday photos, love seeing people happy, sharing their celebrations, enjoying their nice times with their children, pets, travels or being supportive when times are tough.

EmmaEmEmz · 04/10/2024 15:09

Because they want to?

People use their social media in different ways. I share lots on Facebook and if someone doesn't like it, they're free to unfriend me or unfollow.

I love seeing what my friends are getting up to

cestlavielife · 04/10/2024 15:11

Maybe it s their diary /journal. Don't look.

Parry5timesbeforedeath · 04/10/2024 15:13

I have a fb friend who has over a thousand other fb friends. She posts every time she breaks wind and several times on holiday.i just think she is advertising when her home is left unattended.

Horriblehistoree · 04/10/2024 15:13

Surely it’s their Facebook account so they should feel free to post what they like, just in the same way you have the ability to unfollow and not see what they post? Is it harming you in any way? Are you offended? If not, then it’s not that deep.

Herowork · 04/10/2024 15:16

They are just attention seeking. It’s how they roll. “Oh look at me, I’m having a drink in the airport at 5am in the morning”

Dontcallmescarface · 04/10/2024 15:44

I don't know OP have you asked them?

NerrSnerr · 04/10/2024 15:50

Because they are channeling their Billie Piper and it's because they want to.

It's their social media and they can do what they like with it. If you don't like it then just unfriend them.

NerrSnerr · 04/10/2024 15:54

I love seeing people's holiday snaps. I personally didn't post much of my summer holiday that was in a caravan in Brean but if I was somewhere more exotic I might have done.

It sounds like a lot of you don't like the people you're following on social media, the way you're talking about them. That's probably the problem. If you only follow people you genuinely like they tend to be a lot less annoying.

Doggymummar · 04/10/2024 15:54

Does anyone under 70 use FB, I think the nans that use it just don't understand social media.

Itiswhysofew · 04/10/2024 15:59

I feel for the kids and anyone else not wanting to be constantly photographed & posted online. It must be really disconcerting. It's not fair to involve others in your desire for validation.

Tadpolecat · 04/10/2024 16:04

@Doggymummar the only FB friend I have over 70 is my mum, so yes, lots of people under 70 use FB.

User19876536484 · 04/10/2024 16:05

I only use Facebook for the local and interest groups so I couldn’t care less if somebody wants to post their life on Facebook. I’m not going to see it.

YogaBearBasket · 04/10/2024 16:05

I think some people are genuinely addicted to posting. And they can’t relax and enjoy something until they have posted a photo of it on social media.

DoraSpenlow · 04/10/2024 16:16

Hardly ever post on Facebook but I do something every day with a couple of photos when on a special holiday like the one we did this year. Riding Route 66 on a Harley Davidson.

Only have 34 Facebook friends who are close friends or family who know we are away anyway. Everyone said they looked forward to seeing where we had been.

PersephoneAgrees · 04/10/2024 16:20

I use facebook as photo storage as I go along. If people want to comment/like they can, but essentially my holiday photo uploads are for me and my family. If we decide to print out a photo book using Snapfish, then it's much simpler to upload facebook photos.
With regard to advertising the house is empty, I live in a close knit community and the crime rate is low. Plus either one or other of my sons could be at the house at any given time. Then there's the neighbour who feeds the cat...

@Northernlass44

How many posts about a holiday would be acceptable then? Who gets to decide whether you have posted enough pictures to be “arsehole of the month”?

I don’t particularly care the question was why do people post every day their photos not just once or so but document everything . My answer is because deep down many of these sort are braggers it’s a bit passive aggressive in my opinion it’s like look at me aren’t we having a great time vibe rather than living in the moment

Exactly my point

Of course we can stand people being happy, but as said do we really need to know everything like you've checked in, your having a coffee etc, now your on the way to the airport etc etc. It's an obsession with some people and wanting to feel important.
It's not for the diary or memories at all otherwise people would set the posts to ONLY ME.

I tend to do just one post when I get home.

I think it’s more interesting that way, and also it does mean that you’re not advertising you’re away. Although my Facebook is private, I guess friends of friends could see if they comment.

No, they can't if you have your privacy settings on correctly

Cynic17 · 04/10/2024 16:30

Because they're incredibly shallow and rather dim?

afrikat · 04/10/2024 16:37

Wow the judgement on this thread! Some people like to post alot, some people don't. Doesn't make the frequent posters dim, or shallow, or any of the other insults being thrown around - just personal preference. If it bothers you that much I'd question why you're even on it
