Dog came to our house viewing

Our estate agent brought a potential buyer round to view our house today who turned up with their dog. I saw them on the front door ring camera carry it in to our house but when I checked the back garden camera I could see it walking on our carpet!

We have a 5 year old and a 5 month old and it walked all over where the boys play (luckily most of their things were put away for the visit) and the estate agent knows this.

The dog also was carried into their bedroom and held above our baby’s cot.

if this hadn’t annoyed me enough when asked about it the estate agent lied and said the dog was carried the whole time. When I told her we can see it on the ring she said she’d make a note that no pets would be allowed on future viewings and that’s it ok as the dog didn’t go to the toilet in our garden.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable but just wanted to gauge opinions before I speak to the agent properly tomorrow and whether that’s normal behaviour or is as bizarre as I think it is.

OP posts:

Very bizarre and completely unacceptable. I’d be very angry too.

LoobyDoop2 · 01/10/2024 20:23

Totally not normal or ok, and I’d also be really unimpressed with the agent’s cavalier attitude when you raised it.

JacquesHarlow · 01/10/2024 20:24

I wouldn’t think I’d need to tell an estate agent “no dogs inside the house during viewings”, but I guess the challenge now to this post is, did the estate agent know you didn’t want dogs in the house before?

Their reply is so typical of British working people these days - don’t apologise, don’t acknowledge it even happened, just state how the worst didn’t happen, and what you’re going to do next.

I don’t think YABU at all, but I’d be fascinated to hear the “doggy mums” come in and defend the right of these creatures to go anywhere and everywhere.

purpleme12 · 01/10/2024 20:25

Very weird. Not ok
Weird people to bring a dog to a house viewing

Mumof2namechange · 01/10/2024 20:25

I think you'll get dog lovers coming on the thread saying yabu, but I for one would be as annoyed as you or more. I'd give notice to the agent and use a better one

The “cavalier attitude” seems to come from how so called professionals in British society act when pulled up on something

they never explain or make an attempt to make you feel better - it’s always “So at least this didn’t happen?” in some form of attempt to make you feel weird for even raising the issue

globalwondering · 01/10/2024 20:26

As an estate agent- that's ridiculous. You don't need to specify that you don't want dogs in your house on viewings!!
I've had people arrive with dogs before and it's a straight no- they don't come in!

Illpickthatup · 01/10/2024 20:26

I'm allergic to dogs so this would really annoy me. They should have checked in advance.

Blusterydaytodaypoohbear · 01/10/2024 20:27

I would send the ea the bill for your carpets cleaned. She won't be so nonchalant with other people's property next time.

isthereaway · 01/10/2024 20:28

Not OK at all. One of your children might have a severely allergy for all anyone knows. If the EA is happy to lie about it I'd consider changing agents.

Dunnoburt · 01/10/2024 20:28

I'm livid for you OP.....yanbu.

ThePoshUns · 01/10/2024 20:28

That's so disrespectful.
I have a dog myself, I wouldn't dream of imposing her in that way.
I'd be really cross.
As others said you or your children may have severe allergies to dogs.

Me too. I would be absolutely furious. Honestly I would need all the carpets deep - and I would be insisting the estate agent pays for it !

ThePoshUns · 01/10/2024 20:29

I'd be changing estate agents as they are clearly unprofessional

Oceanviews · 01/10/2024 20:29

I'd also be annoyed as pp's said what if you/dcs had an allergy? And lying about it too!

InTheRainOnATrain · 01/10/2024 20:30

Bizarre and not normal. Even worse that when challenged the agent lied and then tried dismiss as a non issue because it didn’t go to the toilet. Wtf. If you can I would switch to another agent as surely you can’t trust them with keys to your home now?

muddyford · 01/10/2024 20:30

I've got dogs but no way would I take them to a house viewing and I wouldn't want one coming to view my house.

BlueEyes90 · 01/10/2024 20:30

Not okay. I’d be changing estate agents.

user27241775 · 01/10/2024 20:30

Not OK, someone in my family has a severe allergy to dogs! I'd be fuming

PosiePetal · 01/10/2024 20:30

Well my cats wouldn’t be delighted about that so no, not okay!

Bruisername · 01/10/2024 20:30

I have a dog who I adore and it’s important to me that he likes any house we buy

nah, only kidding, that’s really weird. One thing if they’d tied it up outside, which would still be odd, but incredibly odd to bring it in whether carried or not

your estate agent sounds awful but then so many are!

SunQueen24 · 01/10/2024 20:30

Totally disrespectful. I had kids left playing in my kids play room - with our kids toys, left unsupervised whilst the adults viewed. That annoyed me too.

lemonyellows · 01/10/2024 20:32

Why the hell are people bringing dogs into your home? I would be fuming.

Patienceinshortsupply · 01/10/2024 20:32

I'd be changing estate agents. And feeding back why.

That's appalling that someone has shown such a lack of respect for your property.

Cam29 · 01/10/2024 20:33

So disrespectful and would really wind me up. I’m shocked there’s currently 13% who have voted you are being unreasonable!! Who are these people 😂
