Frightened

Just been into the local cemetery walking my dog, and felt uneasy about a man who seemed to be watching me.
He went to one grave down the bottom of the hill, went to another all while watching me, he didn't have any flowers or nothing for anyones grave. He appeared to be talking to himself.
He slowly made his way up towards the hill towards me, at this point my back where to him. I felt really uneasy, so faced towards him and he was staring at me and I felt really intimidated he stopped at another grave and then faced me again staring. I felt is was not quite right and my gut instincted was going, so I decided to abandon my walk with the dog and run back to the car. Got in the car and locked myself in and come back home.

Whether people feel that dogs should or shouldn't be allowed in grave yards is a moot point as there is no legal prevention in most places. The fact that OP was frightened by some person staring at her is not ok.

Some person she “felt” was starring at her! There is no legal prevention that says men can’t wander around graveyards, or look at women with dogs. So that’s also a moot point.

I think OP was given reason why the man could’ve been looking at her? And justifiably so it would seem.

I don’t think she gave a reason. Some commenter’s are using the dog to justify the man’s behaviour.I do think dogs should be on the lead, there’s nowhere in the thread that says the dog wasn’t .As far as l’m aware, it’s not illegal to take a dog, on a lead, to a cemetery.

WinterAconite · 03/10/2024 08:48

I agree with the poll majority that you were not at all unreasonable to abandon your walk when a bloke was constantly staring at you, muttering to himself and getting nearer and nearer.

Absolutely no one has said it is illegal for a man to look at a woman. That's a straw man argument. This thread is about whether OP was unreasonable to abandon her walk when a bloke was constantly staring at her while muttering to himself and moving towards her.

I'm a bit confused as to why OP started this thread and why there's so much interest in it.
Basically OP saw a man she thinks is mentally ill. She's the only one who saw him so we can't dispute this fact he appeared to be unwell. From the description he sounds mentally ill - walking around from grave to grave, talking to himself and staring at her. I knew a schizophrenic man and this is exactly how he behaved.
So OP felt frightened of him. Fine. Not sure why she started a thread. I see people who look mentally ill and vaguely threatening, frequently. It's just one of those things.
Then there have been hundreds of posts in response. What's so interesting about this? The fact that she had a dog in a cemetery?

Agree.
Had enough of this now.

nootcoffee · 03/10/2024 09:21

I imagine it was fact the OP posted 82 times on the thread so it kept popping up on actives!

nootcoffee · 03/10/2024 09:21

added to which, as more detail emerged - it all became a little… odd!

Freeyourminds · 03/10/2024 09:23

@SallyWD Yes this thread now, seems to be all about the dog.Whether we agree or not, a dog being on a lead in the cemetery(because there’s nothing to suggest the dog wasn’t) It’s not illegal.
So the comments blaming OP for taking her dog there, doesn’t make sense.

There’s a graveyard near where I heard recently, a lot of men go to meet women, my aunt was telling me about her friend who was recently widowed, and a man approached her in this graveyard and made a sexual suggestion to her. Apparently this graveyard is known for this sort of thing

“a lot of men”

or just your aunt telling you about her one experience? Oh not actually her experience… her friend’s experience

There you go, OP. You could have missed an opportunity for a romantic date. Or similar.

Why is there so much sarcasm on this thread? The world is full of weirdo predatory men. Even if they don't/wouldn't actually do you any harm, loads of men get off on knowing that they're making women feel scared. Surely everyone on MN has experienced this at one time or another?

As we all know MN is anonymous, anyone is commenting, including men.
