Just been into the local cemetery walking my dog, and felt uneasy about a man who seemed to be watching me.
He went to one grave down the bottom of the hill, went to another all while watching me, he didn't have any flowers or nothing for anyones grave. He appeared to be talking to himself.
He slowly made his way up towards the hill towards me, at this point my back where to him. I felt really uneasy, so faced towards him and he was staring at me and I felt really intimidated he stopped at another grave and then faced me again staring. I felt is was not quite right and my gut instincted was going, so I decided to abandon my walk with the dog and run back to the car. Got in the car and locked myself in and come back home.

God, threads like this depress me so much. Only read first page but so many piling on to tell you that your instinct is probably wrong and it was something else. Why? I don’t get it.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:21

@WorriedRelative he bit a cyclist a long time ago. I am 99% certain he would not bite again. When he sees his dog groomer, the vet my friends and all diffrent people he never bites them at all. The muzzle is just a precaution.

Big precaution staying in your pocket, isn't it? No way the dog will ever bite anyone when it's in there!

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 12:43

@DoIWantTo he was not of a lead no. It's just that the pathway is narrow and if he got to close dog could potentially bite.

you’re “99%” he won’t though

Always trust your instincts. I always felt super uncomfortable around someone I worked with who everyone thought was the greatest guy on earth/salt of the earth type. From the moment I worked there I felt uncomfortable or distrustful - no reason just a gut feeling. Turned out I was right as working late one night six months later he insisted on walking me back to our on-site staff accommodation. I was on high alert but could not get away and yes he did sexually assault me but luckily for me despite it being late at night a site visitor came to my rescue. Only for that witness I dont think anyone would have believed me and I lost my job for reporting him to the police as I was tarnishing the company’s image. He was charged and it went to court and I heard several years later he was doing time for sexually abusing two young children. Always trust your instincts.

That's awful that you were sacked over it

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:26

@nootcoffee I will take my friend tomorrow to feel safer after tomorrow I will go just me and the dog.

added to which, i imagine the poor cyclist has forever more been a touch 😦 when seeing border collies!

but the op would be adamant that he had bad intentions when in actual fact he was remembering the pain of a dog bite

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:27

@nootcoffee yeah 99% is very high. 1% chance of him biting the risk is very very low.

OP posts:
nootcoffee · 01/10/2024 14:28

given you’re going. with a friend tomorrow

why don’t you take the opportunity to branch out so you have at least one other walk option in future!

Most people have actually said that if she felt uncomfortable it was right to leave. Yes they've given other explanations as to why he might've been looking at her (as she was at him).

I'd stare at someone with a dog in the graveyard too but I believe as a woman we should take precautions if we feel unsafe.

He might have been visiting multiple graves, maybe he felt uneasy with you being there to express himself at the graves, you won’t know really.
Just be glad you are safe, it’s always a good idea to trust your gut.

I agree with this - if you were uncomfortable you weren’t wrong to leave and I’m sorry you had that experience; it doesn’t sound pleasant at all. Hope you’re feeling better now and can find somewhere else to walk your dog.

border collies need a LOT of exercise . 2-3 hours a day.

you’re saying that you just go to the cemetery and industrial estates, twice a day, every day?

Butchyrestingface · 01/10/2024 14:32

How large is your dog, @IveGotToGoToMeDads ? If it was a wee spaniel or Shih Tzu I'd probably have high-tailed it the hell out of dodge too. If it were an XL Bully with anger management problems, might have been tempted to stand my ground. Grin

In all seriousness, sounds like you made a judgement call. You weren't rude or unpleasant to anyone, just removed yourself from a situation that made you feel uncomfortable. Instincts are not infallible, but we have them for a reason.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:32

@nootcoffee not a wind up at all. What's the problem with my dog going to cemetaries or industrial estates to walk, because he was attacked in my local area and we don't have the confidence no more in parks or our usual streets?

OP posts:
IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:35

@Butchyrestingface the dog is a border collie about 23kg, which is big, but he's soft really. Only bit once when he was a lot younger and that is because a cyclist startled him going by too quickly.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:35

@nootcoffee my dogs gets loads of exercise, the cemetary and industrial estates we go are massive.

you said you only go to the cemetery

but ok industrial estates too

border collies need 2/3 hours of exercise a day.

this doesn’t sound great op

if i were you, given you’re walking with a friend tomorrow, i’d try another walk- go

but nope, back to the cemetery you go despite spending literally the entire day arguing why the chap there was definitely a baddie

🤷 good luck op (bloody hell that cemetery and industrial estate 2x a day for a couple of hours must be so boring!!)

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 14:37
