Mine is set to come on 6am-9pm if drops below 18 degrees. Last week it came on an average of 1-2hrs a day (Midlands)
I have it set to 14 at night, so not cold enough to come on yet during the wee small hours and rarely does even in Winter.
Anyone else had theirs on or am I mad and it's way too early? I have an underactive thyroid and feel the 🥶 so 16-17 is just too cold for me if drops that low.

Yep - the heating is on in our house. Not tropical level just warm. The rain and cold wind has put a chill in the air. The thermostat still says it’s 18 degrees in here but it feels colder.

TiredArse · 01/10/2024 08:26

I did for the first time yesterday, but only to dry shoes and coats. I’d have probably held out a bit longer otherwise.

alpenguin · 01/10/2024 08:26

Still no need for the heating yet but it’s coming. In Scotland so it’s always colder here. When I put it on it’ll be when the thermostat shows it dropping below 17. Any hotter than that and the house gets way too warm.

Dogsandnumbers · 01/10/2024 08:27

Not here. All of our windows are still open 24/7. It'll be a long while before our heating is on.

shellyleppard · 01/10/2024 08:28

Mine is set for the morning as both sons at college. I also put it on in the afternoon if I'm feeling cold (under active thyroid) makes me feel the chill more

User1836484645R · 01/10/2024 08:37

We relit our boiler yesterday so ours will come on if the thermostat drops below 17 degrees. It’s timed to only come on in the evenings though. I’m out at work during the day and my retired husband doesn’t feel the cold.

Catza · 01/10/2024 08:38

Ours came on on a Saturday morning for the second time this autumn. It is set to 18 degrees on Saturdays. I let it run for 30 minutes guilt-free even though I would typically wait till November. During the week when I am alone in the house, I wear multiple layers but I did have to turn the heating on last week as my hands were getting cold.
Yes, it's technically early. But it is also much colder than it would normally be this time of year so I am not going to question myself. I spent most of the last 20 years freezing in winter. A couple of years ago I didn't even turn heating once as I lived somewhere that had electric radiators and no gas boiler. Now in my 40s, I actually want to be comfortable at home.

Can I ask where you are? (not precisely, obviously). I'm in the soft south and the heating's on a bit already. More because it's been so dank.

BIossomtoes · 01/10/2024 08:42

Our heating’s come on automatically in the morning a few times. Winter’s come early this year.

zzplea · 01/10/2024 08:42

Oh here we go, the start of the competitive under-heating season.

Tel12 · 01/10/2024 08:44

Stat is set to 20c. If it's below that it comes on, well between 10 and 6 am

I was wondering the same thing. I couldn’t be doing with cold damp drafts blowing around every room in my house.

AutumnMoss · 01/10/2024 08:57

Mine is on right now, I find 20/21 perfect and cosy.

Sometimes I’ll put it on low when the rain has been relentless and house starts to feel damp.

wildthingsinthenight · 01/10/2024 08:59

0P said Midlands.
I am also Midlands and would love my heating on but the boiler is broken and getting a new one tmrw.
Cannot wait!
Brrrrr

FranticHare · 01/10/2024 09:02

Like PP, windows still open here, definitely no heating, but we are in the south.

Looking at forecast, won't be putting it on for a while yet unless it suddenly drops.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/10/2024 09:05

My heating stays on all year, set to 18 when we’re home and 14 over night or when we are out. 16 degrees in August is no warmer than 16 degrees in December.

coffeesaveslives · 01/10/2024 09:07

No - like PP's, all our windows are still open. It's due to be 16 here today, definitely not heating weather yet.

bluecomputerscreen · 01/10/2024 09:08

thermostat 13 at night 18 during the day.
so far has not come on yet.
but cardigans, fluffy socks and hot water bottles are required for wfh

ApolloandDaphne · 01/10/2024 09:09

In away at the moment but I can see on Hive that my house has dropped to 14.5 degrees having had no heating on for five days. That is much too cold so it will be switched on remotely as we head home today. I don't like below 18.

Meadowfinch · 01/10/2024 09:11

Our heating isn't on yet, but I've lit the log burner the two nights that we have had frost so far.

The house is still warm. Unless we get a cold snap, we won't need it for another few weeks. We're in the south.

Purplebunnie · 01/10/2024 09:11

Ours is set to 19 and has been coming on.

Looking forward to lighting a fire in our new grate but hopefully hang off until November as I don't have any logs in yet😂

I haven't resorted to the hot water bottle at night yet hoping to defer that for a while as well

hookiewookie29 · 01/10/2024 09:16

Yep- started putting ours on last week.
I refuse to be cold in my own home, or wear 15 layers of clothes- it's bad enough going to someone else's house and keeping your coat on!

Tittyfilarious · 01/10/2024 09:17

Mine is set to come on on if the house drops below 18 overnight or 20 during the day , our house feels way to cold if it's any lower overnight

RedPony1 · 01/10/2024 09:19

I'm in the South and no heating on here, DP keeps putting the fan on at night still too, its just not cold enough for us. We don't sit around much so no time to get cold anyway.

QuestionableMouse · 01/10/2024 09:19

Dogsandnumbers · 01/10/2024 08:27

Where do you live? Because I'd say that's not typical for most of the UK ATM.
