How on earth are we allowing porn like this to access

Surely aggressive and violent porn and all the other filth must be affecting people? I worry so much about what children get to see. Surely it must have an effect on men, it’s just so shocking the things that are out there.
We never had access to this before, just some magazines, Page 3, a few videos…what’s available now surely must have a psychological affect on people

Won't tag him as I don't want to summon him, but A Ten Shun. Sadly not my first interaction with him.

It is interesting the biggest defender of porn consumption on this thread is, shockingly, a man.

At every point I have said that those under 18 should not view pornography. Just because I put the onus back on the parents to deal with their childrens illegal behaviour. Does not mean I am unreasonable.

You really need to add a degree of reality to your belief that it is always the extreme sex that all men view. While some may view it, There is far more non extreme content out there. Which suggests it is one of the less popular genres.

Puttheneedleontherackets · 02/10/2024 17:16

@ATenShun We’re not just talking about children though. I will make sure my Dd doesn’t view it at a young age, just as the majority of parents do. We’re also talking about the impact of Porn on men and how we are viewed. The disgusting language used, the violence, the implication it being teens etc etc

As well as the abuse, rape, exploitation and trafficking embedded in the industry.

As PP's have commented. It is acting. We can actually view something on a screen and manage to not carry it out the next day. I didn't watch the Jeffrey Dahmer film and feel the need to kill, eat and dismember young men. Nor did I watch Nightmare on Elm Street when younger, and go out and stick razors on the end of my fingers. It is the same with viewed sexual acts.

Which of course you have proof of and have reported to the relevant authorities in the Country it is being made or the host sites jurisdiction.

I don't have the time to trawl through millions of videos and check the background and consent of the participants. However, we know from the victims and investigations that abuse is widespread.

Theres a lot of cognitive dissonance involved in porn use.

So you don't actually know if they are trafficked etc, or have taken any steps to do something about it. You just came on Mumsnet to complain about something that you think.

@Puttheneedleontherackets

''How on earth are we allowing porn like this to access''

You need to answer that with who is it that is permitting it to be viewed by under 18's. That of course are the parents. You can make any number of things illegal, like supplying pornography to under 18's or those under 16 having sex. But unless the parents take responsibility, I'm not sure how you could stop it.

I genuinely believe removing blanket internet access and smart phones to under 16's would go a long way to helping their all round mental health. Put the laptop into a family room and not the bedroom.

As a parent you can't prevent other children showing your DC porn at school / after school, which is what's happening.

The main problem is how easy it is to access extreme and degrading porn.

FFS, do some research.

Yes, many of the women on Pornhub etc have been trafficked, are being coerced and abused. Some are underage so it's filmed child abuse.

Why are you pretending this isn't the case?

If you read back through the thread I made the suggestion that if your child comes home and says 'X' showed porn on his phone you report it to the authorities. I also way back on the first page I think said I believed removing smart phones and moving internet access to a family room would be healthier for all children. Not just from the adult content point of view.

Well as it's you making the assertion, why not show us the independent study showing this.

That only works if your DC actually tell you and if they know who the other DC are.

Puttheneedleontherackets · 02/10/2024 17:41

@llamalines Guilt…? Wants to enjoy it but not think about what’s really going on…🤷🏻‍♀️
I don’t know how anyone can defend it at all, we’re not someone will view it and automatically go out and rape someone. It’s the insidious nature of it, the language, the violence, it must seep through into the subconscious somehow. Those are peoples daughters/sisters, do you not see how it could be harmful at all??

I've just explained that victims have come forward and given accounts of being trafficked, raped and coerced.There have also been investigations into it.

You're also downplaying the violence and degredation visited upon women in porn which is freely available. I think pornhub has about 42bn hits a year.

The effects of porn can be seen with the normalisation of certain dangerous sex acts, the increase in sexual assault in schools and the ages of the perpetrators. There are primary school kids addicted to porn.

Puttheneedleontherackets · 02/10/2024 17:42

@candlewhickgreen Exactly, all of it

There is no reason why porn cannot be treated in the same way that child porn and animal porn currently is. Force it onto the dark web.

As it's about VAWG there aren't a ton of independent studies as there's fuck all funding.

But, have a look at Traffickinghub to see links to several articles.

traffickinghub.com/

I'm not going to take time to spoon-feed this stuff to you though, as it seems obvious you're only interested in denying modern porn is all about the sexual abuse of women. And if that's not plainly obvious to you I can't help.

ATenShun · 02/10/2024 17:44

@llamalines

Children always gossip. I'd be astounded if at least one person didn't run to tell Miss or Mum about it.

You didn't give an opinion on removing childrens solo internet access?

You mean past cases that have now been dealt with.

No, because it's a red herring IMO.

Every parent will do what they can to protect their child from harm.

But I think it harms everyone, adult and child (even those who don't access porn themselves) to be living in a society where a huge number of people are accessing this kind of violent content that's so degrading to women on a regular basis.

The problem is the porn itself. The extreme nature and the easy access to it and the normalisation of such shocking misogyny.

What authorities do you mean? Do you seriously think the police or social services will do anything about it? If so, what? Charge the child who showed it? Charge the parents? Take the kid into care?
Even if they did, which they wouldn’t, it’s been done, your kids can’t unsee what they’ve been shown.

No one is this naive. There have been interviews with famous porn stars speaking of their disassociation and trauma after they left the industry.

There have been raped victims, some of them children whose rapes were recorded and uploaded onto mainstream sites. There have been trafficking victims who have spoken of being forced into porn.

Investigations have found evidence of child rape. This has been going on for years and is still going on. Next you'll be trying to convince people that all sex workers just love sex.

If there was ever proof that men are still in charge of the world its the fact that this porn is made and freely accessible even to children, and no one in charge gives a fuck

Comes down to this.

Many ex porn actresses now campaign against the industry. A lot have serious mental illnesses such as BPD and have been victims of child sexual abuse in the past, it’s exploitation even if they are over 18.
