How on earth are we allowing porn like this to access

Surely aggressive and violent porn and all the other filth must be affecting people? I worry so much about what children get to see. Surely it must have an effect on men, it’s just so shocking the things that are out there.
We never had access to this before, just some magazines, Page 3, a few videos…what’s available now surely must have a psychological affect on people

All governments. In western countries at least.

I think you are dramatically overstating the influence of the people who own the industry. Plus, I'm unsure why they'd spend resources buttering up Western politicians when much of the content is hosted in the Third World and developing nations in Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia, precisely because these governments don't particularly care what is stored on their soil and their politicians are far more amenable.

There's a big demand for images of child abuse but it's illegal and won't come up under normal search functions.

I think people are very naive when it comes to porn. The industry is rife with trafficking, coercion and abuse. Many so called porn stars are child abuse survivors, addicts and suffer PTSD.

Mainstream porn sites are full of images of rape including underage sex, trafficked women and abuse. They also include revenge porn.

The acts they are coerced to perform are often violent and degrading. Some are very harmful including strangulation and anal.

You can't compare top shelf magazines and the odd dodgy VHS with the kind of images children have access to 24/7. Some men have normalised these acts, often can't perform because they're addicted to porn and it destroys relationships. It rewires the brain but it's like trying to get crack away from an addict and officials turn a blind eye to all the evidence pointing out how detrimental it is.

I can tell you from a previous job the horrendous material was there but it was manually shared. Ex legal child abuse researcher.

Devils advocate, I'd rather a man sexually attracted to female violence stay home him and his hand watching a consensual adult movie than be out trying to fulfil his sick fantasy on an innocent passer by.
Rape has been around since the beginning of time, porn for the last few generations.
There could be arguments that porn allows these 'men' an outlet to stop these 'desires' becoming reality

I think the porn industry has powerful friends in government.

I don't think it's that deep. It makes money and men like it - what incentive is there to tackle it?

Exactly, it only really affects women and girls so no one cares.

CheeryUser · 01/10/2024 18:53

A lot of porn - sick men out there. It can’t be good for their bodies or minds.

I’ve read on here so many times about men not able to get or stay hard for real life sex but still wanking to porn.

Plus surely it’s making sex less enjoyable for women if men are confusedly trying to recreate the weird and wonderful things they’ve seen online and wondering why their wives aren’t spontaneously orgasming on touch seven times in a row like the paid actresses on tv. We should be up in arms about this. What’s wrong with a good old fashioned seeing to? Grin

It is tremendously damaging to society.

Except studies have shown that "viewing" habits escalate. When there's nothing left online , where do you think these men go? And how far will they go?

Plus, given the accessibility and availability of hardcore, abusive , violent porn you end up with even more men desensitised and looking for "more".

Individuals may not make much, but the industry is worth billions. Lots of money in porn.

FrivolousKitchenRollUse · 01/10/2024 19:40

I think it needs addressing from a social acceptability POV rather than talk of bans etc because as others have pointed out, the internet probably couldn't police a ban. As a child of the 80's, two things really stick out as things where attitudes have changed over the years - smoking and drink driving. Whilst laws have been implemented over the years, I firmly believe it's the changing perceptions that have lead to a reduction in people smoking and drink driving.

I think the same thing is applicable re porn. Middle aged men need to know that the 1% (or whatever it is) of female porn stars that talk about big bucks and empowerment are an absolute minority and an industry trojan horse so they can convince themselves everyone is enjoying it. And whilst this might sound like a joke, young men and teenagers need to know that watching porn will make you a crap shag. They need to know the link to ED and the fact that flipping a woman over and going at 1000 rpm won't make her make the noises that porn stars do.

If there was a will , the industry could be heavily regulated. It isn't really at the moment, and any steps taken would be an improvement.

Two quick "wins" .

requirement for registration /adding card details to access any major porn website. This would prevent children accessing it so easily, which is the real issue. Might also make some people think twice knowing there's a data base with their name/details or it or at least , with the extra "hurdle" some might not be bothered.

Removal of any and all "amateur"/home made porn. These are predominantly the videos that have a high risk of being illegal, from revenge porn to actually depicting rape , CSA etc.

Neither of these would make the blindest bit of difference.

Any site not hosted in the nation making your new credit card law wouldn't be bound by it, so in the UK's case, virtually every single site, and the ones that were would simply move host.

Again, unenforceable because of remote hosting, and besides, Pornhub already removed millions of unverified videos, and it's still chock full of amateur content posted by verified users anyway.

I did a lot of counselling before during and after. And you do it for a very short period. It was before I had children and I suppose youth, energy and sense of justice kept me going.

I am very grateful to those that so a lot more for a lot longer.

Becuase viewing of legal content is changing behaviors in real life. Why are you OK with choking, gagging, aggressive anal etc becoming expectations? Don't you think men would feel differently were women frequently consuming and wanting to enact "rough pegging" pornography?

You do know that as an adult you can make the choice of being with somebody who expects any of those things or not. Just like a woman who got turned on by 50 shades has the capacity if that is what she desires.

If my partner came and said, hey I wanna try pegging. I can make the decision if it is something I would do.

Stop claiming legal consensual acts are wrong somehow. Parent your under 18's and stop expecting the state to do it for you.

The problem is that if 95% of 18 year olds have seen all this disgusting stuff and think it's normal, there won't be any nice boys for our daughters to have their first, safe, respectful, consensual sexual experiences with.

Firstly if while they are under 18 they are accessing illegally. An 18 year old doesn't suddenly get the legal right to look at pornography on his 18th Birthday and suddenly type in extreme sex into a search engine.

It is up to parents to educate and monitor their behaviour.

Yes, they're all doing it illegally.

Now what?

Crikeyalmighty · 01/10/2024 22:12

@MissScarletInTheBallroom oh I think there will be- problem is though these young chaps will want to carry on watching all the hard core stuff too - as well as having the nice young woman for a relationship. it seems men can easily separate out hard core shit in Their head from their real life relationships- without realising that plenty of 'nice' women will simply get 'the ick' if they find out about it. ( some won't I know) If they can get the ick if they wear purple socks or wear the wrong shoes then extreme porn watching is high on the list of 'icky' behaviour- i really don't think blokes get this.
