What do I do...except bite the bullet and buy the blooming thing WHICH I will wear and not just on my 60th BIRTHDAY (I'm of the punk generation, except I was more into Rock music). Apart from both of my wedding dresses...I paid for the second one...this "Dandelion Michael Kors Mini Dress" is the most expensive dress I will ever fork out for.!!! However I will wear it on my 60th birthday and beyond...AND...stick it in the washing machine EVEN if the label recommends "dry clean only".

i can justify this amount of money for a mere item of clothing and I will ENJOY wearing it LOTS...and LOTS...and LOTS...and machine washing the blooming thing...Thank you xx

Really could do with seeing the dress @SusanHodge1964 Can you put a link to it? No-one on here can tell you whether to wear it or not. Only you know if you will look OK in it. No-one can see what you look like, or what you will look like in the dress.

If it IS this one (that comes up when you put your description of the dress into Google,) then I have to say it's not something I would wear at 60. I'm a bit younger than that (in my 50s still,) and I wouldn't wear it. It's clearly aimed at much younger women. I know some might say you should be able to wear whatever you like, but the fact is, certain styles suit certain people/certain age groups (and not others.)

It's a nice colour...it doesn't look wildly expensive though unless it's made of unicorn tears and fairy dust.

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/09/2024 18:43

Happy birthday! Your 60th is for doing what you want, so if you can afford the dress (including afford with sacrifices) and it'll make you happy, buy it. YABU not to give us a link to the dress, though.

On my 60th I took my adult DDs and some friends to an absurdly expensive hotel for afternoon tea. It was a complete extravagance and the kind of thing I never do, but I wanted to just do it once, and pay for everyone - I'm normally far too careful with money to splash out on something when I can do it more cheaply, and I don't think I've ever taken out a big group of people and paid for the lot. So if you'd never spend that kind of money on a dress but it's what you want, I'd say your 60th is the time to go for it.

60 is the new 40

I thought that. If it is the one above, (or any of the ones posted so far,) then the poster from earlier @harrumphh is right that it looks like a £30 dress from New Look. And I don't think it's mean or nasty to point that out (as @FloatyBoaty said.)

BeautyPageantDropout · 30/09/2024 18:51

I love your enthusiasm for this dress and command you to buy it.

Have no idea if dress is lovely or worth buying, as no photo.
You clearly love it and want it.
Please don't put it in the washing machine...if it's lined or tailored or delicate fabric, you'll ruin it; no 'to hell with tomorrow' joy in that. Treasure it, take care of it.

I disagree. I'm 55 and apart from the fact I can't wear yellow, could wear that and look perfectly age appropriate. Conservative even. Unless you're model height it would come not far above the knee, and its very covered up up top and sleeve wise. I think women should wear what they like, but even if you do subscribe to some arbitrary rules about age propriety, if a 60 year old woman couldn't wear that, I don't know what's left tbh.

Choosenandenough · 30/09/2024 19:09

Yup I googled t! Get it… it’ll look shit hot with punk vibes! I know exactly the look you’re talking about and you better bloody get it!

Do it. I splurged on a fabulous mini dress for my 50th and I felt amazing in it.

Cherrysoup · 30/09/2024 19:29

Who cares what it looks like? If the OP has been lusting after it for ages, loves it, can afford it, will wear it again, she should so get it!

Netcam · 30/09/2024 19:33

I love yellow, but is your birthday in winter? Won't you be freezing? Or are you intending to wear it with this wool tights and a warm cardigan?

Nools24 · 30/09/2024 19:36

What’s the point trying to guess which dress it is. She didn’t come back to show us. I’ve lost interest waiting

CuttySarcasm · 30/09/2024 19:36

An expensive dress that fits well and is good quality is ALWAYS worth it. You’ll look a million dollars.

PollyIndia · 30/09/2024 19:38

If you love the dress, 100% wear it and buy it. I’ve had 2 terrible reminders of the brevity of this life in the last week, and my god, every birthday should be celebrated, we should wear the dress and dance and live. I’m 50 next sept and I’m having a massive party and I’ll stay up all night and I might even wear 2 dresses. I’ll never get married, why the fuck not celebrating another decade. Happy birthday 😍

TwigletsAndRadishes · 30/09/2024 19:40

I'm confused about exactly which dress it is, three or four have been linked now.

But they are all yellow and quite skimpy. Not sure how practical any of those would be in November. Confused

Ioverslept · 30/09/2024 19:41

Buy whatever you want, but if it says not to wash it in the washing machine against.label instuctions, be prepared for not being able to wear it lot of times. What is the material?

Screamingabdabz · 30/09/2024 19:46

I agree with pp that at first glance it looks like a yellow t shirt dress from a fast fashion brand. Google the Oscar de La Renta dandelion mini - now that’s more punk vibes to me.

Wondering how much extra traffic the MK website has this eve from this thread....😁

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 30/09/2024 20:03

You should absolutely buy the dress. I don’t need to see it to know that you absolutely love it. Which is why you should buy it and feel great wearing it!

LifeandLemons40 · 30/09/2024 20:06

BUY THE DRESS!!

Happy Birthday!!

Scirocco · 30/09/2024 20:09

If you love it and can afford it, buy it and wear it with pride. Punk Rock Spirit has no age limit.

OfficerChurlish · 30/09/2024 20:20

Go for it!
