What do I do...except bite the bullet and buy the blooming thing WHICH I will wear and not just on my 60th BIRTHDAY (I'm of the punk generation, except I was more into Rock music). Apart from both of my wedding dresses...I paid for the second one...this "Dandelion Michael Kors Mini Dress" is the most expensive dress I will ever fork out for.!!! However I will wear it on my 60th birthday and beyond...AND...stick it in the washing machine EVEN if the label recommends "dry clean only".

i can justify this amount of money for a mere item of clothing and I will ENJOY wearing it LOTS...and LOTS...and LOTS...and machine washing the blooming thing...Thank you xx

The fact you’re sixty and have legs for a mini dress means you MUST buy it.

Unless it’s this one? Which is gorgeous and very in style at the moment. I’d love it in a different colour but, well, not at that price!

I do like that one.

Honestly OP if it's £2000 - it's a lot but if you can afford it and it will make you happy go for it.

(Don't think I'd pay that ever but maybe when I'm 60 I'll be able to think about doing something like that ie something just for me just to make me happy).

EveryOtherNameTaken · 30/09/2024 17:44

Link please 🙏
I need to see it!

Hoardasauruskaren · 30/09/2024 17:45

Hoardasauruskaren · 30/09/2024 17:46

Sorry don’t know why the link didn’t work

Agreed - if it’s for a 60th and makes you feel amazing go for it (whether it’s this one or not).

CuteCillian · 30/09/2024 17:47

The lace one is gorgeous (and I don't usually like lace).

Oooh that is really cute! I'd wear that. Very 1960's.

I've got a dress very like this but original , it was my mum's.

Hoardasauruskaren · 30/09/2024 17:48

Sorry I need to learn to refresh the page ! 🙈

Snowdrops17 · 30/09/2024 17:54

If you have been wanting it for months buy the dress YOLO

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 30/09/2024 17:57

In 10 years time as you head towards your 70th what will you regret more.

Buying an expensive dress that made you feel fabulous.

Not buying the expensive dress that made you feel fabulous.

Go for it op, you've been thinking about it for months, it's not an impulse buy unlike half the shit I own

Bumcake · 30/09/2024 18:00

If you can afford it and will get use out of it, buy it. Also - show us!

Knittedfairies2 · 30/09/2024 18:16

I don't need to see the dress. You love it, you can afford it, and you'll wear it often - if chucking it in the washing machine doesn't knacker it - you don't need anybody's permission to buy it. Enjoy!

DoYouReally · 30/09/2024 18:17

It sounds like you have your heart set on it.

If it bankrupt you or gets you into debt, then no.

If you are going to put a dress clean only dress in the washing machine, no.

If neither of the above then, maybe.

Have you considered showing it to a good dressmaker and asking them for a quote to make similar and cost material? It will also be made to measure which might be nicer.

I would absolutely do that before spending £2k on a dress.

MummyJ12 · 30/09/2024 18:18

You obviously love it, and it’s a very special occasion. Absolutely go for it! Only if you can afford it though and are not going to get yourself into debt for it. Then it’s not worth it.

harrumphh · 30/09/2024 17:19

Why be so spiteful though?
did it bring you any joy?
did it make you feel better about your life?

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 30/09/2024 18:28

Do it!!!!!

EnfysPreseli · 30/09/2024 18:28

Buy it if you love it that much, but why stick it in the washing machine and potentially ruin it. That's just wasteful and daft.

A lot of Dry Clean Only stuff can be washed carefully by hand in cool water in a few minutes and given a quick spin before being hung on a hanger to dry. But if you've spent a fair amount on an item of clothing, the extra money for the occasional dry clean should be worth it.

By all means go a little bit bonkers for your 60th, but if something is special, or a bit of an investment, FGS look after it so you can enjoy it for longer.

SquatWeightaMinute · 30/09/2024 18:28

But the dress and wear it every chance you get!

I am dying to see it.

Fescue · 30/09/2024 18:29

Obviously a Sagittarius spirit, so Happy Birthday when it arrives. Remember the government takes 40% off you when you die, but they don't count dresses. By buying it know you are getting a tax break. And its perfectly legal.

Nanny0gg · 30/09/2024 18:32

I would NOT put it in the washing machine

If that goes wrong you'll cry
