An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

The media don't leave anyone alone! If it wasn't Labour it would be the others. Plus various non-political people with high profiles.

They hyperbolise and invent, love to cause outrage and fear.

I take everything with a pinch of salt. Life goes on and we get by.

I'm also eternally grateful not to be famous :).

😂😂

Ha. It’s been funny at least, even if we are all going down the gurgler

Freysimo · 01/10/2024 15:12

I didn't vote Labour, but hoped that after the chaos of the past few years, Starmer might bring some stability. He seems totally out of his depth.

WFA cut and plans to build all over the green belt are my top two at the moment, I’m sure they’ll be more by end of the month

Edited

The WFA should always have been means tested. And Labour's commitment to the triple lock will mean that the loss of the WFA will be offset by the increases to state pensions.

Not much help since winter comes before the increase

Labour voters were happy to use the media to get the last gov out and to get into power, they can’t complain when the same comes back at their party

You simply cannot compare the two, likewise right wing and left wing media.

*in your opinion…

Pretty low to claim that those who are critical of the governments record to date (against its intent) are mentally unsettled though. Quite desperate really.. or perhaps it’s that you feel let down as well, but rather than accept you’ve been duped are angry and deflecting…See also early stages of the grief curve…

Duped how? What is this great catastrophe that people are referring to?

The pensioners have done very well under previous Govts to date and have hardly ever had to face the sort of cuts and austerity measures that all other demographics have had to. Now a huge fuss over a couple hundred quid that even the wealthiest boomer has been getting for years!

Well I can and have

All those who joined in with the great take down of the last gov can enjoy their version

Plus there is no leniency from the media, partygate would have brought in loads of £

Oh dear personal attacks now

Is Labour’s bad day getting to you?

You have posted how many times in last ten minutes btw

You asked me what was troubling me about labour so far and I responded. Given that heating bills are set to increase several hundred pounds this year, I think it is unlikely the triple lock will offset anything.

Wow talk about using hyperbole "mumsnet agitator". I bet you were one of the rabid Labour supporters gloating about the "adults are back in charge" after the election? The majority of whom are now mysteriously quiet

The fuss is because of where the cut has come. And a lot of pensioners are on other benefits which are income related - cut to the bone along with everyone else. If you think it’s a huge fuss over a ‘couple of hundred quid’ you’ve obviously not faced a situation where a couple of hundred quid has meant the difference between being warm in the winter or not.

Of course I have, including being homeless in my 20s but no helpful extra payments then while many boomers have been sitting pretty in properties bought for a song and now multiplied many times over in value.

Even some Tories agree: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/feb/07/the-pinch-david-willetts.
