An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

Though Labour themsleves called it the "welfare state" when the whole construct was set up post war... So while it's convenient to say it's been deliberately rebranded to make a point, as is often the case it's not actually correct

Because “welfare” as a concept is far removed from “the welfare state”.

You might need to explain your thinking on that…since the welfare state is a system for delivering welfare

To the last few posters: is this really the time for vitriolic attacks from all sides to cause chaos when what we desperately need now is some positive change and rebuilding? The previous Govt richly deserved all the criticism it got after 14 bloated years of poor governance, mismanagement of just about everything and scandal after scandal.

I don't know what all the howling critics are trying to achieve? I doubt it's anything good.

By all means let's have a general conversation about MPs' freebies and donations to parties but this isn't specific to Labour who are not anywhere near the worst 'offenders'. And the smear campaign against Keir Starmer about this is really badly aimed and timed.

"And the smear campaign against Keir Starmer about this is really badly aimed and timed."
How is the truth a smear campaign? and why NOT now?

What truth?

Because this ramped up campaign against him, especially so early on and when he really hasn't done anything to deserve such pointed criticism, will only cause chaos and division at a time when, as I said above, decisive and positive action is desperately needed. All this media hoopla will only detract from that and make it more difficult for them to do their jobs.

But chaos is of course what multimillionaires and ideologues crave in order to thrive.

Somewhat hyperbolic and not at all well aimed at Labour.

This is satire, right?

I’m not understanding the “not well aimed” - who should it be aimed at if not at Starmer?

No, why?

Great contribution.

Some people just get off on being permanently angry and attach themselves to any bandwagon to feel important and justified. I think a lot of this is actually a Covid hangover. A lot of people are feeling mentally unsettled and need something to battle against constantly.

There is certainly much to be pissed off and worried about in the state of the world but Labour's tenure so far isn't one of them.

I'm not engaging with silly, disingenuous comments like this.

I already have. It’s all there. I’m not going over it again.

Yeah sure.

Come back when you actually have an argument or anything meaningful to offer.

Julen7 · 01/10/2024 14:41

For example that ”we shouldn’t be worried about labour’s tenure” - get real

Why? What is it that worries you about Labour based on their time in office so far?

Julen7 · 01/10/2024 14:44

WFA cut and plans to build all over the green belt are my top two at the moment, I’m sure they’ll be more by end of the month

Labour voters were happy to use the media to get the last gov out and to get into power, they can’t complain when the same comes back at their party

So you are serious.

You can write this with a straight face:

Amazing.

Poor old Labour eh. Just trying to get on with their jobs snd the nasty media won’t let them.

The vast majority of the media were anti Labour right up to 4 July, they did everything in their power to retain the incumbent government, just as they’re doing the same now to undermine the new government.

I completely agree. Love her or loathe her, Mrs Thatcher deserves her place in history. Its quite pathetic really. I believe the portrait was commissioned by Gordon Brown, so not all Labour leaders are as petulant as Starmer.

Truss's portrait can be hung in the broom cupboard though, with the bog brushes and bits of old rag.

Even The Sun backed them pre GE

*in your opinion…

Pretty low to claim that those who are critical of the governments record to date (against its intent) are mentally unsettled though. Quite desperate really.. or perhaps it’s that you feel let down as well, but rather than accept you’ve been duped are angry and deflecting…See also early stages of the grief curve…
