Those protestors actually make me feel even less bothered by climate change. I genuinely don't give a shit anymore.

Have they managed to convince anyone?

if this generation doesn’t work it out, there isn’t a future as the effects will be too severe to reverse.

Don't be ridiculous

Do you read any of the environmental stuff in the broadsheets. Any of it at all? Can you not put 2 + 2 together? We are absolutely fucked. The only generation who won't see the worst of it are the boomers. Gen X onwards are going to be living in a dystopian nightmare. It's coming and it's coming way, way faster than people like you can be arsed to get your heads around.

Absolutely.

Can you give specific examples of policy and investment that has directly resulted from JSO's influence?

The government isn't going to grant new oil and gas licences I think, which was the first of their policy requests?

Climate refugeeism is how the UK (or what it was at the time) became populated. Thats why you're here

Whats the problem?

The world will survive. Humans might not, humans are not different to any otgher species on the planet, either now or in the past. Some survive and some dont.

Humans probably will survive. We are a highly adaptable species, able to live in many environments, like rats, brambles, etc.

What won't survive is modern industrial civilisation. For many people the end of our "way of life" might as well be the end of the world.

The ostrich response is very widespread.

That is a hideous thing to say. Joking about people being burned and tortured is unacceptable regardless of your view of them. What a vile thing to think, yet alone write.

To add, the level of media and harsh legal action against them suggests, to me, the people in power, really don’t like what they’re doing. Hmm, I wonder why? Must be because of the tangential and overblown risk to ambulances, right? Or could it be because if people actually wake up to what action is really needed it would force a rethink of the entire structure of society and the economy and they rely on the masses apathy and love for the status quo, that also happens to make them (and not us) tonnes of money?

There is nothing tangential and overblown about blocking traffic thereby stopping the passage of ambulances.

Disgusting attitude.

You are clearly younger and probably don’t take much medication. Even in summer now, hospital beds are completely full. All the conditions that you hear of, stroke, heart attack, seizures, brain haemorrhages, heart arrhythmias- they happen DAILY to people who have never been unwell before. Daily . Nobody knows when they might need medical help. All of those medical conditions will need treating within a tight time window. You might be able to temporarily resuscitate a patient in an ambulance, but unless you get them to hospital and address the reason why they have had a cardiac arrest - they will most likely die.

This is why JSO received accurate fair sentencing.

I agree. My point is that not caring or caring less as a result of their actions is idiotic. We all should care regardless of what they do or don’t do. The only rational position, if you are informed and have a basic degree of cognitive ability, is to be extremely concerned.

As you will have noted, I was referencing RH specifically. I'd say that his, and other co-founders' parts, in mobilising change through Extinction Rebellion in the first instance has been hugely influential. A myriad initiatives have arisen from the UK government and 75% of local authorities (over 300) declaring climate emergency since 2018, for instance, very much as a direct result of direct mass climate action instigated by said group.
JSO's direct action is keeping the Overton Window open.

Indeed, and I hope the posh twats enjoy their prison time. Amazed the justice system actually worked to sentence them.

Strange (though depressingly predictable) to see the activist supporters lionising Roger Hallam on here - the same Roger Hallam from whom German ER distanced themselves over perceived antisemitism and who's expressed fantasies about "the rape of young women on a global scale" Confused

Somehow knew you’d jump on that. Easy out for people like you, swallow the rage bait, makes it easy, feels good even, like the others misdirecting their anger, to continue dismissing the problem.

I hope you haven’t reproduced. Do you not care about the future of the planet?

just because some people think x is likey does not auto mean they are correct, remember a large majority back in history used to believe earth was at the centre of the universe and they were wrong, we were also wrong about peak oil etc so then we could also be wrong about the climate

on the same point how can just stop oil block roads and emergency services putting many lives at risk , seems by your logic just stop oil are just as bad

No, what’s more shocking is that JSO would ever dream of doing something as heinous as blocking traffic and medical care. Oh wait, they actually did.
