Ive got covid. How worrying is the new variant and why are they still not insisting we wear masks.

Because we live with it now. Wear a mask if you want.

GoodEveningMiss · 27/09/2024 19:37

Who is 'they'?

Hippywannabe · 27/09/2024 19:37

I tested positive today too. Feel really rough.

Pandasnacks · 27/09/2024 19:38

Why would we still need to wear masks? It's been years!

GoodEveningMiss · 27/09/2024 19:39

I don't ever see anyone wearing masks anymore

Daisypod · 27/09/2024 19:40

I had covid last week, obviously can't say what variant it was but I wasn't too bad. I could still make a cup of tea, put a wash on but didn't really feel like doing much. Was better within a week

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 27/09/2024 20:40

Because by and large, people have built enough immunity to it, and can be vaccinated against the side effects of it if they want.

Nobody wears a mask for any other contagious illness and covid is really no different.

Melodysmum12 · 27/09/2024 20:44

Because Dr’s are allowed to perform operations even if they’re Covid positive so that tells you all you need to know!!

Masks and lockdown ruined lives just as much as the actual virus!

I think that is so unprofessional to perform operation while your covid positive that is disgusting

Because apparently we should ignore Covid now, despite the fact that many people have had severe long term effects.

Thank goodness for vaccinations, because yes, they mean symptoms are generally less severe for most people, but longer term effects are still unknown.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 27/09/2024 21:01

I tested positive last Saturday. I only tested because I'd had a headache for 5 days then woke up Saturday aching all over. I'm starting to feel better now that it's coming out. The worst thing has been lower back pain, which I wasn't expecting. I Hooe you feel better soon OP 💐

StrikeItMucky · 27/09/2024 21:15

I think I might have covid. Last week I had a headache every single day! It subsided for a couple of days and then I had a migraine for 2 days. Went to bed last night feeling a bit rough and then woke up this morning feeling dreadful.
I can't test as I don't have any but the symptoms feel the same as the 2nd time I had it... apart from the lower back pain that @Thmssngvwlsrnd mentions, and freezing cold extremities that turn white/blue and severe pins and needles?? I work in health care so it's part and parcel of the job I suppose!

DryBiscuit · 27/09/2024 21:20

I think if you are positive, then you should wear a mask while at work, on the tube or bus etc, and limit being around public as much as reasonably possible
Not because its ‘law’ but because its a decent thing to do

Noone knows what other people’s immune systems are like

I dont think masks should be brought back in but i do wish people would consider others

Even with a cold, I think people should distance themselves as much as possible if they can

D&V stay home etc

Flute56 · 27/09/2024 22:24

I had asore throat for 2 weeks. Then i developed a ough and the sore throat got worse. I just thought it was a cold. Then i had aching joints and a headache. Someone suggested i do a test and it was positive. That was on wednesday. I do not feel as bad anymore bit still have a chesty cough and get a bit out of breath when i excert myself but thats all. I still test positive though.

I am able to do light housework and no longer feel nauseous but i still cannot eat a full meal. I am eating snacks which is all i can do but i couldnt even do that before so my appetite is getti better.

My main concern is i am due to go on hiday on 15th october abroad and hope to be ok for that

I'm just getting over it now. It's the roughest I've been with covid so far. Every day a new symptom and a lot of muscle and joint pain. Not many chest symptoms, but everything else, including loss of taste and smell. Still feeling weak and debilitated. I get it every year and I'm sick of it. This latest version is nasty and like a bad flu.

TempestTost · 28/09/2024 02:37

Because the evidence that masking does anything isn't good enough to support mandating them,

Because most people don't want to mask permanently.

Garlictest · 28/09/2024 03:14

I still wear a mask in crowded situations. Because nobody else is wearing them, some of those people have Covid, and I don't want their virus.

Sure, a mask doesn't give me full protection but I'd rather have some than none!

Sorry you're poorly, OP. Feel better soon.

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 06:46

Because someone in government admitted that the purpose of masks was to act as a visual sign that a virus was around, and basically scare people to keep them under control. The effectiveness of masks was always doubtful.

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 06:59

Please can someone address my recurring symptome of headache and sore joints. I thought they had gone. Also my trip anroad on 15th october

OP posts:
Suzuki70 · 28/09/2024 07:22

What do you mean "address" them? They are signs of COVID, yes, but to be honest you probably had something else first if you had a sore throat for 2 weeks. DH had bacterial tonsillitis at Christmas and got COVID the week after.

If you tested strongly positive on Wednesday you're unlikely to test negative til mid next week so I wouldn't waste tests in the meantime.

Your holidays is 2.5 weeks away; cross that bridge when you come to it.

Paracetamol is best for those symptoms. Avoid alcohol & caffeine and get plenty of rest.

Most people recover fully in 2 weeks so shouldn't affect your holiday. In fact it's better to get it now so you have high immunity & won't be ill on holiday.

Yep! But it’s the rules set by the NHS where we are!! Shocking eh… but just shows NHS treat it like any other illness if you feel well enough to work, you can!

You are missing the point and my point is yes headaches and so joints are conditions and symptoms of covid but what I meant was that after two days these symptoms disappeared and that was after testing positive and I naturally assumed that I was on the road to recovery and Wendy's symptoms came back last night I was quite disappointed because I then thought to myself I can't be on the road to recovery if these symptoms have returned so I thought I'm back to square one
