Has anyone else had a change of opinion about things that they’ve not really questioned and always just accepted before, in the last few years?
It could be since a became a mum, but I’m wondering if it’s more.
My Dd has been very ill recently and I’ve gained much better help, advise from less traditional Drs-think medical Drs who focus on naturopathy too, homeopathy and so on, I never knew anything about homeopathy before my Dd got ill. The results I’ve seen are incredible and much more positive that traditional things like antibiotics, painkillers and so on.
I used to be a teacher and loved it, but I’ve found myself really questioning if this is the right system and the right way of doing things and am increasingly doubting traditional schooling. Even the way the majority of us work, the 9-5, the commutes, snatched weekends with loved ones, the yearly holiday.
Maybe I’m just becoming an old hippie! 😂
Does anyone else feel like this?

Same.
Life doesn't seem to work so trying to find an alternative route to suit but also not being too hippie ISH

Summerhillsquare · 26/09/2024 22:19

"Less traditional doctors" doing homeopathy - so not doctors then? Beware the grift OP, they are capitalising on the rationing and under funding of public services.

nothingcomestonothing · 26/09/2024 22:20

Homeopathy has no evidence base, at all. If your DD is ill and needs painkillers and other meds please give them to her.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/09/2024 22:21

Antibiotics are one of the greatest inventions in human history and no one will change my mind about that. Likewise vaccinations, I’m eternally grateful my children won’t have to face polio and other horrors.

My view of work and work/life balance has changed in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Don't mind me, just getting comfy

Loveafridaynightchippy · 26/09/2024 22:25

@nothingcomestonothing She had them and they didn’t help the problem the same way homeopathy seems to be. I know, I never even knew or bothered about it before, but ur really does seem to be working.
Definitely not discounting traditional ways and obviously realise the importance of antibiotics etc-however, there are other ways alongside traditional methods and other doctors who seem to know much more about the link between the gut and the brain for example. A lot of traditional doctors don’t seem that knowledgeable about many things these days in my experience (I’m not in the U.K..could be this, I don’t know)

Please stop taking your child to quacks.

Birdscratch · 26/09/2024 22:27

The placebo effect is a powerful thing.

Xenia · 26/09/2024 22:28

It doesn't work and is a load of rubbish but if it has some placebo effect for you and as long as you are acting within the law if you deny your daughter treatment then I suppose you could do it...... bit risky though.

BarbaraHoward · 26/09/2024 22:28

Please read more about homeopathy, and the extent of the dilutions etc. There's no evidence it works.

Remember, if it worked, it would just be medicine.

Thistooshallpass24 · 26/09/2024 22:29

Actually it's new improved for Mumsnet it's viper oil 24, still limited edition

Birdscratch · 26/09/2024 22:27

The placebo effect is a powerful thing.

That is true and they have done studies on it and shown how well it can work.

But please don't believe in homeopathy it really isn't medicine in any sense of the word.

harrumphh · 26/09/2024 22:30

Absolutely not, if anything I'm leaning more the other way. AI has already basically cured Parkinson's, it's incredible.

Justice4Friend · 26/09/2024 22:30

Years ago my school friend had ear ache that wouldn't go away even with ear drops.

Her grandma told her to piss in a steel bowl, grandma warmed that piss up on the hob, when it cooled down, put the piss in my friend's ears, even the good one. Friend has never had ear ache again decades on.
Side effect - now known as Piss Ears.

Tittat50 · 26/09/2024 22:32

Homeopathy is just nonsensical bollocks and dangerous. Alternative therapy, yes, I can see value in some elements but homeopathy absolutely not.

I am incredibly disillusioned by the medical profession however. Awful experience but I'll take what I can get.

The last few years I have questioned the entire education system. What an absolute waste of those malleable information sponges. If I think too much on it I'd be really sad for my own kids. I can't change our current situation so I just don't share these views. They enjoy parts of it and socialising so that's positive for me.

It's amazing how nice and helpful people are when your giving them money

Yeah I would never mention earache again either if my nan pissed in my ear

What? Really? My doctor hasn’t informed me of any great new treatments and I will try almost anything to improve! Can you share some links please? (Genuinely)

llamali · 26/09/2024 22:36

If homeopathy worked people would overdose on it

Birdscratch · 26/09/2024 22:36

I had to google naturopathy but I agree that changes to diet and exercise can have a real impact on health - so do ‘conventional’ doctors. Massage can be helpful too. I would be very careful of any ‘natural’ medicines unless they subjected to independent testing in your country.

The placebo is the most tested drug after all…

I think I feel the reverse. I'm more grateful than ever for the medical profession since having DC. His teachers and his nursery/school have enriched his life so much. I went to one of his school assemblies this week and I got strangely emotional about the fact that he was part of this wonderful community.
