Not a supermarket but B&Q last weekend. A bottle of dishwasher rinse aid, £9.

Doggymummar · 26/09/2024 21:15

I shop online so don't really notice prices but every time I go to a shop in person I am surprised at prices.

blueshoes · 26/09/2024 21:16

Instant noodles, the sort that students eat.

I used to be able to buy for less than 50p per pack. Now you'd be paying close to £1.

LittleGreenDuck · 26/09/2024 21:17

@PeggyMitchellsCameo you beat me to it with Lurpak. Crazy price.

Cadbury's chocolate when from about £1.75 to £2.50 for a 200g bar, overnight.

MorrisZapp · 26/09/2024 21:17

I watched a Sali Hughes reel today where she did an American drugstore guide, all v interesting but I noticed that the Walmart generic version of Cerave body lotion was seventeen dollars. SEVENTEEN! For a cheap version of an already 'cheap' product?!

I'm going to America soon so I'll see how bad it is. Cost of living bites.

Cel77 · 26/09/2024 21:17

I don't know. So much stuff is overpriced. I bought my husband a can of cream of tomato soup the other day,and it was £1.79!
That shocked me.
We don't buy olive oil right now. I know why it's expensive as well so know it's justified but we really can't afford it.

Yes stuff has gone up. But a hell of a lot of wages have too.5 years ago my cleaner charged £11 an hour.... now she charged £17. 5 years ago I earned £95k now I earn £150k.

Wage inflation goes hand in hand with rising prices. I don't really get why people are surprised.

My wages haven’t gone up
in line with inflation.

It’s the black bin bag song from phoenix nights.

ToRecordOnlyWater · 26/09/2024 21:23

One roll of Plenty kitchen roll was £4.90 at the village where I work. We use it at the shop I work at (for wiping down tattoos so can’t have cheap shit kitchen roll). We ended up switching to Asda’s brand as it was strong and a lot less extortionate! We were using three full rolls some days!

At the little Co Op where I live Cathedral City cheese is currently on offer at £2.50, but there’s only about 3 on the shelf…because they’re all in giant plastic security cases. Bizarre.

Greenbanana7 · 26/09/2024 21:12

@AutumnTimeForCosy24 Olive Oil, which was the post above my post!

@Greenbanana7

right, but there are lots of posts above your post. On fast moving threads it's difficult to know what you're reply too as invariably it's not the post directly above your post.

The “5p” bag charge is now 30p

Probably knits her own from chickpeas.

This comment has made me laugh..the dog has jumped off the bed in fright😂

HalloweenGrinch · 26/09/2024 21:28

Olive harvests have been decimated by disease and poor weather conditions, so the increase in price is nothing to do with the blatant profiteering that processed food producers charge.

I am not buying Pukka tea bags at £5 a box much as I love them. They are on sale at at Waitrose currently at £3.50.

HalloweenGrinch · 26/09/2024 21:29

I wish I could edit. "Profiteering in which food producers engage" would be better!

floppybit · 26/09/2024 21:29

Comedycook · 26/09/2024 20:20

Four rolls of kitchen roll.

£8

Price of kitchen roll lately is fucking unbelievable, it's become a luxury item!

AutumnTimeForCosy24 · 26/09/2024 21:31

Greenlabelss · 26/09/2024 21:20

Baked beans are another. 2 pounds for a tin?!?!

@Greenlabelss

well, people who need to be more careful about how much they spend (lucky for you that they don't) they'd buy them elsewhere. I don't (yet) need to be too careful & don't have much storage space (to buy in bulk) so I just bought the 4 pack @ under £4.

the bigger tray (per tin) were much cheaper, but I just don't have the storage space.

Nor am I supposed to eat them, so 4 is more than enough!

liquidsquidli · 26/09/2024 21:31

Kitchen rolls in Asda £5.25 for 2

I was gobsmacked!

BobbyBiscuits · 26/09/2024 21:32

My local co-op seems to get raided daily by determined and professional shoplifters. They just walk in and empty the booze shelves. Also the self service till doesn't notice if you forget to scan. No wonder it's so expensive!

Lol who's wages actually inflated?
Are you still in the same job as 5 years ago?
Also, what do you do if its not a secret?

ObliviousCoalmine · 26/09/2024 21:33

FreeSausages · 26/09/2024 20:02

Teapigs teabags £9.15!!!

Where the fuck are you shopping?!

Getonwitit · 26/09/2024 21:34

LoobyDoop2 · 26/09/2024 20:01

Must be to balance out the fact that everyone uses their carrier bags to line the compost bin, so the 5p charge does absolutely nothing to deter people from using them. I actually go to the Co-op specially to stock up on carrier bags for the compost bin.

So do i, bought 10 today as our co-op is closing for 5 weeks.

8misskitty8 · 26/09/2024 21:34

Haddock fish fingers. £4.25 for 10 in
