Was it a little co-op? In which case it's more of a convenience supermarket? And also bin bags are super shit for the environment.

@llamali

what do you use in your kitchen?

Yes stuff has gone up. But a hell of a lot of wages have too.5 years ago my cleaner charged £11 an hour.... now she charged £17. 5 years ago I earned £95k now I earn £150k.

Wage inflation goes hand in hand with rising prices. I don't really get why people are surprised.

In 5 years my wages have gone up £5k and half of that was due to reaching the top of my pay scale, nothing to do with wage inflation.

notprincehamlet · 26/09/2024 20:51

Yeah I feel so spoilt with my 1% pay rise - I might blow the lot on a litre of olive oil

Don't spend it all in one place, now.

How does the environmental impact affect the price?

@Phen0menon I don’t earn as much as you but very close to. I am really surprised you firstly don’t see that wages haven’t gone up at the same rate as inflation and secondly, that despite the fact you (and I) can easily afford any of these things, you don’t recognise that these supermarkets are actually taking the piss… it has actually been discussed in the FT that cooking oil is massively and disproportionately inflated. Try reading a bit more widely.

Teapigs teabags £9.15!!!

Teapigs have always had stupid prices. What I can't understand is who the hell buys them?

Livinginaclock · 26/09/2024 20:18

Probably knits her own from chickpeas.

You could probably use a biodegradable flour based glue to stick individual lentils into chains to create bin bags. So much better for the world.

My salary has decreased. And even then, if they expect me in the office then public transport costs have increased.

A lot of firms want you to do 2 jobs for the price of one, legal secretary/marketing assistant was one I interviewed for.

A 3 pack of Yorkie bars have gone from £1.35 to £1.85 almost overnight, even in the likes of B&M.

Must be to balance out the fact that everyone uses their carrier bags to line the compost bin, so the 5p charge does absolutely nothing to deter people from using them. I actually go to the Co-op specially to stock up on carrier bags for the compost bin.

The “5p” bag charge is now 30p
