ok
a group of teens get in acar. driver is not 16. they smash it up.
one dead, one badly hurt and police involved.
in the mean time boy is going to school. not breaking the law. doing year 11 and working VERY hard.
his reward if he gets enough points he can go to school prom.
boy who is hurt in crash(who didn't have brill attendence) breaks the law. wrecks a house. and what reward does he get.
oh he can go to the prom.
seems that is his getting better target.
(soory boy never went to school and was not good when he was there.)
boy (who has worked hard) thinks this is hypocrcy.

You have confused me.

Why is boy A? (was he in the same crash?) only going to prom as a reward for points (exam success?)

Report
tissy · 21/04/2008 17:05

and who has decided who shall get what reward?

Are you annoyed that Boy B (def in crash right? driving???) isn't having p[rom banned as punishment?

must be like ds's school
only the well behaved get to go. they get points on attendance.
so in that case if he never attended school and has now been off.........

So what you are saying is one boy is being rewarded for hard work throughout year and good attendance record is rewarded with the school prom.

And a boy who got into a car with an under 16 year old - who I am presuming that he knew was u16 and in a car that he presumably did not own or have permission to drive or insurance - and did not attend school regularly is rewarded by being able to go to the school prom.

Yes it is madness and this is the society we live in. Schools are unable to discipline. Some parents can't or wont.

ok
to go to school prom you have to earn a certain amount of points.
bad attendace and behaiviou you loose points and can't go.
so ds has been good and worked hard to get enough points.
this boy has broken the law. helped to wreck a house and is now badly hurt. (hardly an inocent victim)
yet he gets to go to prom.

claricebeansmum thanks you got it.
how do you keep teens on the straight and narrow. when a boy like this is held up as some sort of victim.

If the car crash happened out of school hours it is nothing to do with the school

Maybe whoever is in charge thinks he's had a big shock and is dealing with the consequences of his actions and doesn't need any more punishment for the accident?

Report
ilovejz · 21/04/2008 17:12

littlelapin no they are not brothers but ds thinks the school are hypocrits(maybe wrong word I used his)

I think if he's been badly hurt in an accident in which another child died , then going to a prom or not is pretty small beer.

I suspect being badly injured in a car crash will be punishment enough to remind not to be so stupid as to get into a car without a licensed driver. (He wasn't driving right?)

And as for your ds, surely he can see that the consequences of the crash will stretch further than attendance at the prom.

what does being 16 got to do with it?

thought you had to be 17 to get 'L' plates...

isn't this always the way?
I had a similar conversation with dd the other day
dd is in reception...she has already worked out that if you are naughty and then do something good you get more stickers/rewards than if you are good all the time.
I don't know what the answer is...i can see why it's done and i can see how it makes people angry too.
Have you got the second boy (i'm guessing so) Just ask him who he would rather be though..whose life he would rather have. That seemed to make sense to my boy when we discussed a similar situation.

oy pagwatch
because it is unfair.
most teens can see right from wrong they don't like to see a total shit getting rewarding for criminal behaviour.
