Is it me or are more and more people on here just being fucking nasty for the sake of it?! Honestly if you have nothing nice to say to people that are genuinely looking for some advice because they haven't got anywhere else to turn just keep your opinion to yourself! It really isn't hard to be nice!

The thing about posting on the internet, as opposed to face-to-face conversation is that you don't have to couch what you're saying so as not to offend the other person.

That's not to excuse being nasty - but it does mean that posts here are much more direct.

I think it's also very refreshing to be able to say what you mean, and not have to kowtow to the #BeKind brigade.

(Oh, and if anyone tells you that Tattle is better/nicer/kinder than Mumsnet, just have a read of their long-running MN threads. It's beyond bitchy.)

Those threads can definitely be nasty ABOUT Mumsnet, but the way posters interact with each other is very different.

I have absolutely no idea what your talking about. I was simply pointing out that threads/topics will get repeated.

and i was simply explaining why the "wah wah meanies on mumsnet" is quite so annoying

HTH

I think it's nice that everyone is so honest on here, it's much better than people nodding and smiling in real life and then bitching behind your back.

maybe some days the person posting or replying has just had a really bad day and needs somewhere to let off steam before going back to the real world.

most people who post are well meaning, and it only appears rude when it doesnt agree with the general theme of the post.

lol it's nice you see the best in people but this isn't true. Lots are deliberately really really cruel with no advice at all. But also lots are very kind and helpful too but let's not dismiss the blatant nasty ones

Plus that’s part of the reason some people post. They want to know whether calling their baby Bertie-Bob Russell Roberts is a good idea, and friends and family are saying ‘Lovely’ and changing the subject.

I agree OP. I was just reading a post about curtains and comments had been removed for breaking the talk guidelines and I was thinking how on earth could someone be so moved to write something mean when the op was just asking if it was ok to return some curtains with a fault! I think there are people who get off on just being nasty. I was offering good helpful, totally I controversial advice the other day when someone randomly started attacking my replies either snarky comments. I guess to some it's a sport. Ignore the trolls. Your point was literally proved with the first snarky response!

Does that excuse how nasty they are about MNetters? Some of the stuff they say about me is truly awful. Not just Bootcamp - I don't mind that, as they patently have no clue about low carbing - but about me specifically.

Calling someone a moron either to their face (via MN) or behind their back in RL is never nice.
