That I shouldn't cut my hair pic included

I want to grow my hair long, I last had it cut in May. Since then it's grown from shoulder length to what you can see in the pic.
I took the picture this morning and the split ends are obvious but if I get them cut off I'll be back at shoulder length,
What would you do with my hair?
It's not bleached, this is my Natural colour, it goes blonder in the summer and a darker blonde in the winter.

Honestly I'd take an inch or so off it and maybe start using a more intensive conditioner?

Birdscratch · 25/09/2024 15:15

Yes to ^ cut and condition. You could take those hair gummies too if you want to grow it out.

Birdscratch · 25/09/2024 15:15

What did I do???

itwasnevermine · 25/09/2024 15:15

In order to get long healthy hair it needs regular trims

Beamur · 25/09/2024 15:16

Lovely colour but it needs a cut

Birdscratch · 25/09/2024 15:16

Yes to cut and condition. You could also try hair gummies if you’re growing it out.

Maria1979 · 25/09/2024 15:18

I would cut it. It doesn't look good with the split ends. I've got the same problem as you but I just accept that my hair is not what it used to be..

Shellingbynight · 25/09/2024 15:18

You don't need to take it back to your shoulders, just have an inch cut off.

ZippyDenimBear · 25/09/2024 15:19

Inch off, will look fine

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 25/09/2024 15:21

More regular cuts (12 weeks) as will keep it all growing at the same length, only needs to be a trim each time to tidy it up.

Keep getting it trimmed to get in good condition

My posts were instantly locked by MN. I think the word after hair triggers their spam filter!

Itiswhysofew · 25/09/2024 15:25

Lovely natural colour.

I'd say you need to have it trimmed a few centimetres regularly, rather than a couple of inches every now & then. That'll keep it looking healthy.

LittleBobbyDazzler · 25/09/2024 15:25

Have you ever had long hair? Mine looks looks like yours when it needs a cut tbh but it never gets any longer just split ends. It's because the growth cycle is short so the dream of long hair is sadly just that for me.

I used to have really long curly hair, I ruined it with bleach and hair straighteners. I noticed a massive difference in how thick it is since I stopped getting it dyed (it's been over a year now) I got it dyed to match my roots and the hairdresser got it spot on, it's all just blended in with my natural colour.
I'm going to do as people have suggested and get it trimmed more regularly and also try the gummies.

It needs a "hairdresser's inch" (at least 2") cutting off the bottom, it will look a lot better

RaspberryBeretxx · 25/09/2024 15:47

I'd get an inch off the bottom then stop using any heat on it (just dry naturally), try not to wash too often and use a sulphate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner and deep condition every now and then. I do that and have very few spit ends and really long hair that I haven't cut for ages.

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 25/09/2024 15:58

I drench (5 or so sprays into a ponytail) my hair in argon oil most nights (I wash every day) and it massively improves the ends. Small cut is essential.

Awfeck · 25/09/2024 16:18

What a lovely colour. If it were me, I'd get all the split ends taken out and focus on condition as it grows.

Josette77 · 25/09/2024 16:19

Yep it needs a trim!

My hair is super long right now, I usually donate it when it hits my waist.

I get regular trims, deep conditioner every other day. Leave in conditioner and argon oil daily. Overnight mask once a week.

My hair is thin but I have tons of it and it's wavy.
I don't blowdry or straighten. It's not dyed.

I love having long hair, but it needs to be in good condition.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2024 16:19

Agree, just a trim.

something2say · 25/09/2024 16:24

Yes trim. And stop drying with hairdryer.

spikeandbuffy · 25/09/2024 16:29

I would take about this off
I did it with mine and it looks so much better

Tomatina · 25/09/2024 16:45

You don't need to cut much off to improve it. Half an inch might do it, an inch at most. Lovely hair.
