To find these loafers for men so so awful

Light hearted thread with a hint of real displeasure.

DH loves his black loafers with tassels. Wears them at the office everyday. I was secretly hoping I'd never see them again as they are on their last legs but today he bought a replacement pair on his way home.

I'm going to have to see them for another decade. I hate the tassels. I wouldn't mind plain black boring loafers.

AIBU to be planning ways to disappear them or plotting their untimely demise?

Imagine the responses on here if it was the man trying to tell the woman what she couldn't wear.

🥱😴😴😴

These , they will last forever. The quality is amazing

Oh god they're so fucking ugly.

I have a toddler. I haven't sworn in so long. These shoes make me want to swear so much.

It is my own goddamn fault.

I think if I were you, I'd take them back and change them for a pair of shoes in a style that you do like, OP. Then when he complains, 'fess up, and tell him that you've never liked that style of shoe, but have put up with it because you love him, however, the thought of another 10 or 20 years of it, will have you heading straight for the divorce courts!

For me, they're a reminder of my skinhead boyfriend back in the early 70's!!!

Soonenough · 19/09/2024 23:28

Gosh . He's not from the East Coast of the States is he ? Say in a Boston Preppy way ? Any monograms on his belongings? Tempted to say that you need to run away but on the other hand he may need earning a big whack so just dismiss it as his way of fitting in.

Thistooshallpass24 · 19/09/2024 23:29

Could be worse, it could be one of those fleeces with a howling wolf or some such scene 🐺🌛

OneTC · 19/09/2024 23:30

At least they're not boat shoes

Shrimpi · 19/09/2024 23:31

My first reaction was they're horrendous they make me want to be sick.

But then... I pictured a group of good looking guys wearing sharp suits, and for some reason they've had the audacity to select these ridiculous old lady loafers to be their "uniform"... It's sort of cute, good for them. It reminds me of teenage boys in a good way and I think there's something charming about that at 40!

If only you knew what stuff accidentally ended up in charity shops from his wardrobe

They get a nope from me.

Show him this thread.

Sew tassels onto all of his other clothing. Consider placing some like pasties on shirts, and jackets.

Thinking about it they get a double nope.

Thistooshallpass24 · 19/09/2024 23:32

They seem pretty jarring styles, as in not the same persons style

To be clear, he never had a howling wolf hoodie.
But he was quite um influenced shall we say by things like The Three Musketeers or Robin Hood as a young man, and in his head he thought the shirts were "rugged, medieval white shirts" but actually they looked like women's blouses with balloon sleeves. They were dark times.

An American firm in London.

...I'm not in anything legal. Maybe he just made it up to get me to think that's part of the uniform and just accept it 🤔

Edited

Not surprised to read that. In a formal work setting, I have only ever seen these worn by Americans. I think they look really weird with a suit.

Oxfords all the way for a Brit.

LookingAtTheBox · 19/09/2024 23:40

Does he wear socks with them?

Yes. He not one of those no socks with shoes men and wears trousers below the ankle. And never skinny or slim fit, always regular. Which is why these shoes feel even more inexcusable.

These were de rigeur in the 1980s, worn by gents who had a ‘tache, rolled up jacket sleeves and a mullet.

Can you not lure him to Zegna for a suit and John Lobb for a pair of shoes? He'll feel like a new man.

Because I'm getting Brooks Brothers circa 1990 vibes right now, which is not a good thing

tillyandmilly · 19/09/2024 23:55

What’s wrong with them? Russell & Bromley do these and are brought back season after season so they must be popular?

I don't know what brooks brothers 1990 look like but I can have a good guess it's the Venn diagram bit of what DH likes but I don't. Like his jumbo corduroy house trousers.

Odd to match colleagues, and I agree with PP quite American style. Are all the partners men or do the women wear them too?

How would you even wear these? Wierd for a formal suit because of tassels. Won't work with a smart/casual look as they're too shiny? Trying to think of an outfit...
