I'm not a pet owner, although have had pets in my childhood.

Many of my friends and family members have dogs... And I'm just always so surprised to see how their hygiene standards change when they get a pet....
No dogs on the sofa/bed... But how is it suddenly acceptable?
Dogs around the table and sniffing around food that's low eg coffee table.
And then the owners stroking the pets and letting it sniff/lick hands and then eating without washing first??
My sister in law is awful for it... Her and her children are all petting the dog while eating and then taking more food from the plates which are for everyone. In-between this, the dogs led licking it's nethers before coming back for another sniff around the food 🤢
I can't be the only person to think this is disgusting? 😂🤦🏾‍♀️

There was no argument; just pointing out that calling people who don't like animals psychopaths is not acceptable and absolutely does make you look like you are not too clever.

Moving on, do you even know what psychotic means? It's a bit harsh for a chat about dogs.

Also, missing the part where i said I don't have a pet?

It’s a turn of phrase meant in light-heart. Go stroke a dog and calm down you maniac 🤣🤣😂

Dogs as you know them wouldn’t exist without people. They’re fake and we invented them.

Dogs would exist in some form - wild dogs, wolves. And i reckon without us humans, animals would look after this world far better than the human race.

Which one? Psychopath, or psychotic? Do you always use these words so flippantly or was it just for today?

My initial suspicion was correct. Thanks for confirming.

Namechangeforcheese · 20/09/2024 10:45

I agree with you that animals in the house make things dirtier but I bet the pet owners with 'low' hygiene standards are fitter and have healthier immune systems than people with spotlessly clean houses.

I say this as a non pet owner.

BrightCreature · 20/09/2024 10:48

Haven’t read the thread but am guessing it’s full of the usual ‘people are worse’ excuses. I agree with you OP.

What amuses me is when people insist on being a shoes-off household yet let their dog sit on sofas and beds!

Anyway I don’t have any friends with dogs so we don’t bother each other and lead separate and harmonious lives!

Namechangeforcheese · 20/09/2024 10:52

@kenidorm
I think you are confusing things.

Psychopath and psychotic start with the same few letters. They derive from the word psyche meaning related to the brain. That connection apart, the two things couldn't be less similar. To correlate them is doing someone with psychosis a grave disservice.

HopefulllHolly · 20/09/2024 10:53

@kenidorm Have you heard of hyperboles before? Imagine calling someone unintelligent (which I’m absolutely not by the way, highly educated in fact) because they made a comment in jest. Absolutely ridiculous 🤣🤣

Me? I never used those words.

@kenidorm sorry.

You don't have to be a "dog hater" to recognise that they have unhygienic habits.

This is incorrect. If you look at the definition of hygiene, it's about keeping clean, especially to prevent illness or spread of diseases.

Under this definition, you could put dogs at the top and children at the absolute bottom.

Ohh goody yet another dog hating thread. FFS, give it a rest, yawn.

I love dogs actually, they're adorable. 🐶
I completely understand why people would want to have one...

And ‘maniac’. All the incorrectly-used terms for the mentally unwell are coming out. With a liberal and immature use of laughing emojis.

Psychopath and maniac are not clinical diagnoses, nor slurs so please get off your high horse. Jesus Mumsnet needs to take a chill pill and get a sense of humour, what a sad little life! I was clearly winding up the PP at this point. Absolutely ridiculous.

No, but normally only dog haters are irate enough to start a thread about it

Oh come now there’s another thread where dog owners are bitching (ha ha) about each other’s breeds and having a sort of aryan master race hissy fit about pedigrees and “poos” and “doodles”. It’s surreal first world problem bollocks.

Dog haters are above all that. We hate them all equally.

This may have been your intent but it didn't come across as such. It just made you look really silly.

I never said that there weren't bitchy dog owners out there - just that when it comes to the hygiene issues surrounding dogs, dog haters are far more likely to start a thread about it than someone who likes dogs.

An ex of mine had dogs. I would just want a chilled night, cook together, some chicken maybe some sex.......you know, see what happens. But there's dogs crashing around and hair and slobber and he's touching them. Revolting.

ah yes, 'some chicken' the height of sophistication... bloody dogs, ruining chicken and sex!

I question what kind of person actually hates dogs (not having a dog but actually hating them), I imagine it would have to be a really horrible one.

Trump doesn't like dogs, enough said.

Tbf, my dog literally shoves her tongue in my mouth and I genuinely love it. I think its a love thing. I don't enjoy being linked by other dogs, but I swear that to me her breath smells like perfume, rather than what I logically know is more like rancid tuna. Can't be explained.

Christ, that's absolutely disgusting.

Here's my two! One knows its place...the other is a spaniel...be prepared to be disgusted!

Your dogs are adorable ( and lovely kitchen too!) but if that spaniel sat down, I'd be thinking that it might have traces of poo on its bottom. Same applies to cats and I love my cat.

Allfur · 20/09/2024 14:22

Dont children brought up in homes with dogs have better immune systems?
