How many baths a week is excessive?

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:16

I like to have 2 one at the weekend and one mid week. Is that excessive? I had a week where I was having them every day as my legs ached so much and my DH told me that was too much. He's making noises again as I was thinking of having one tomorrow so that will be 3.

Op, your DH is controlling. You can have a bath whenever you want

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 19/09/2024 21:16

I shower every morning and have a bath every evening. I love baths!

I'd have one every day if it were free, but I have one a week. On a Sunday. Ingrained habit 😂 Baths really ramp the bills up.

Do they though? He doesn't tell the DSC to have shorter showers they can be in there 20-30 minutes!

I bath daily.

TwistedWonder · 19/09/2024 21:17

I have a bath most nights and a shower every morning.

SweetWilliam47 · 19/09/2024 21:17

Oh god I need a soak in the evenings to take all the stress away. I often have 5 baths a week, although perhaps not in summer when it's really hot. Anyway, surely it's none of his business how many baths you have unless your water bill is too high. If he doesn't want to look after the little one, maybe wait until he/she has gone to sleep then there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for him to even have an opinion on it. Soak away 🛁🫧

The "IMMERSION HEATER" yelling! I remember it well....

Yeah we don't have one of them. I remember those days though when I was younger and I think that fear was more legitimate perhaps? We have a nice new boiler.

If you can't afford it, possibly it's too much but otherwise no. I often have one a day - sometimes two. It's one of the few things that helps with chronic pain for me.

You think 2 baths a week could be possibly too much 🤯

suki1964 · 19/09/2024 21:20

Back in the days ( 60's and early 70's ) we had bath night :)

Actually we had a tin bath that was dragged out and put in front of the fire, mum first, us 3 girls second and dad last

Then we moved to a council house where there was a bathroom and an immersion , apparently it cost a fortune to run so it was once a week - Sundays - along with clean pyjamas and clean sheets. Us 3 girls were still put in together ( whilst we still fitted ) but mum and dad both had clean water

Weekdays it was washing at the kitchen sink from the gas boiler - ascot - heated the water you used

I was 31 before I moved into a house that had GCH and a combination boiler and showers became the every day norm

41 and I moved to a house off grid ( oil ) so once again showers and baths are rationed. Im not dirty. I dont live in filth or squalor, I dont smell, but hot water is expensive and is used sparingly

TBH I only have a bath if Im away on holiday or having an overnight stay in a hotel with a bath . Its usually a 2-3 min shower

Then ignore his pathetic sighing, keep having your baths, enjoy them and leave him to it.

He sounds horrid op and you sound like you've been with him too long.

Oh god he's one of them isn't he. I'm in tears now just hearing someone else say it. It's not normal is it. I always fall for these jerks.

My friend used to have 2 a day, which is definitely excessive!

3 a week is absolutely fine!

I assume you don’t work?

No one would ever be telling me when I can and can’t have a bath.
If you want a bath every day then you have one.

A partner should not act like your parent.

FWIW - If you have a health condition and need to use extra water then you can get money off your bill.

Dybbuk · 19/09/2024 21:21

How can anyone spend half an hour in the shower? I shower twice a day but so quickly it is barely half an hour a week.

Thanks for the info I will try to look into it

I've been having two baths a day lately.
One after the first dog walk of the day and then one when I get home and I'm not going out again. I get sweaty in the humidity and need to refresh.

Anonymouslyposting · 19/09/2024 21:24

Oh I love a bath. Usually I have one every other day, occasionally I have more than one a day, that is excessive but it makes me happy. It is where I go if I’m sad or uncomfortable or just need time to myself. Assuming I can afford the heating no one should be telling me how many I can or can’t have thank you very much.

newchapternewday · 19/09/2024 21:26

I have a bath every evening, part of my wind down and relax routine, love it.

EdithBond · 19/09/2024 21:27

If you work and pay your fair share of the bills, then what’s his objection?

letmego24 · 19/09/2024 21:28

I have a bath every day after work to soothe my feet. Sometimes two at the weekend.

Alwayschangingthings · 19/09/2024 21:28

@cuu to show you what a loving partner would do. If I told my DH that a bath every day would help my pain, he would do everything he could to make that happen. From running it to looking after the kids, to cutting back on coffee at work if it was a cost issue. To stop you doing something that helps your pain is cruel and evil and abusive. Looking after his own kid should have to have you requesting it.

HansHolbein · 19/09/2024 20:18

Eh? You should be washing every day regardless.

Presumably OP means baths as opposed to showers.

suki1964 · 19/09/2024 21:31

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:26

That's the thing when I'm in pain I need it. We can afford it we aren't loaded but we spend on other things that could be cut down if needed. He just doesn't see it as a priority I guess

Im not having a pop at how many baths you are having , but the "we can afford, we arent loaded, we can cut back" screams at me, are you both on the same page finically ? You mention SC, so obviously an ex somewhere along the line. So yes maybe day to day you can afford, but is DP also now looking ahead, looking at pension , savings, buying property and doesn't want all the monthly income getting eaten up in bills?

I know for ourselves , as frugal as we are , our electric bill has doubled and our oil bill ( heating /hot water) is eye watering and its a huge percentage of our outgoings

greenleaveseverywhere · 19/09/2024 21:31

I have a bath most evenings. And a shower most mornings!

localnotail · 19/09/2024 21:33

I would say more than 7 is a bit much. 8, maybe.

Coruscations · 19/09/2024 21:33

One bath a day is fine. There is no way that three baths a week is excessive. Tell your partner to pack in the silly passive aggressive sighing and grow up.

BotterMon · 19/09/2024 21:34

You can have all mine. I hate baths so my answer would be one is excessive!
