How many baths a week is excessive?

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:16

I like to have 2 one at the weekend and one mid week. Is that excessive? I had a week where I was having them every day as my legs ached so much and my DH told me that was too much. He's making noises again as I was thinking of having one tomorrow so that will be 3.

I have a bath every evening for at least 2 hours and a shower every morning.

Why does he think you’re bathing excessively? I’d tell him to not comment on such matters.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/09/2024 20:26

I shower in the mornings and have 2-3 baths in the afternoon or evenings with Epsom salts, my bath is 1 meter deep though so I'm mindful of not filling it everyday.

If you can't afford it, possibly it's too much but otherwise no. I often have one a day - sometimes two. It's one of the few things that helps with chronic pain for me.

That's the thing when I'm in pain I need it. We can afford it we aren't loaded but we spend on other things that could be cut down if needed. He just doesn't see it as a priority I guess

Have one every day if you like! Not sure what your reasons are for concerns about frequency.

Suppose the environmental impact will vary depending on how much water you use and what temperature you keep it at. Unless they’re kept short, you can easily use more water in a power shower than a bath.

If you were concerned you might be dehydrating your skin, I would suggest adding Epsom salts and moisturising afterwards.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 19/09/2024 20:27

If you can afford it I don’t see any reason to limit the baths.
I have one most evenings and a shower after morning gym sessions 5 times a week.

Barney16 · 19/09/2024 20:27

I have a bath every day. I love baths. If I have to shower because I'm short of time I feel incredibly cheated and have to have a bath when I get home from work.

Cas112 · 19/09/2024 20:29

Tell him piss off and have as many as you want, it's a small joy, miserable man

Mil3nnial · 19/09/2024 20:32

I think that's fine and assume you're showering on the days in between also fine

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:33

Mummabear90hair · 19/09/2024 20:19

Twice a day would be excessive. I assume though you still shower on other days?

I shower on the non bath days

If you have chronic pain and a bath eases it then surely a bath should be high priority for you and DH should recognise this. Does he not care about your pain?

Why are you even telling him you're fancying a bath tomorrow? Why is that even a conversation? If you want a bath, have a bath!

To book the bathroom and so he looks after LO

😂we only had a bath at home when I was a kid - and anything more than one a week (all in the same water) was excessive and would RUIN you. Maybe you married my dad 😂

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:35

MasterBeth · 19/09/2024 20:17

30 is excessive

Sorry 30 in a week? For one person?

Dude, he's nuts. Really.

Growlybear83 · 19/09/2024 20:36

Are your baths in addition to showers?

cuu · 19/09/2024 20:37

I don't know he just said but you've had 2 already it's getting a bit much. I said I try not to have them too deep and he said yeah but you don't need one it's not like you've done much today. I wfh see so I don't get too sweaty.

Do you live in a flatshare with your child's babysitter?

This is nuts.

Why are you even telling him you're fancying a bath tomorrow? Why is that even a conversation? If you want a bath, have a bath!

You realise people who live together tend to communicate dont you?

Like 'Im using the bathroom in a minute, do you want to nip in before I do'

Or, Im having a bath is there enough hot water left?

there are other (boring) examples

Growlybear83 · 19/09/2024 20:38

I meant do you have two baths a week and then shower on the other five days. I don't really understand the issue with having baths if that's what you prefer

79pinkballoons · 19/09/2024 20:38

More than once a day would be excessive. A daily bath would be normal.

cantdecidewhichisworst · 19/09/2024 20:39

I have at least one bath EVERY SINGLE DAY. And probably 2 a day at the weekend when we have no plans. My DC even offer to run me one after a long day at work & sorting out all the life crap as they know it's my happy place.

If my DH begrudged me that, I can think of a lot of things I'd start to begrudge him.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/09/2024 20:39

A partner trying to control how often and the means by which you bathe is controlling and abusive, he doesn't get a say op, especially if it helps with pain management.

Tell him his behaviour is not on.

GuestFeatu · 19/09/2024 20:39

He sounds like a dick. It's none of his concern if you have a bath or not.

Princessfluffy · 19/09/2024 20:40

If your DH doesn't care about your pain I would have huge questions about whether it's a good idea to stay in the relationship.
