To go to a rave on my own?

Ihearttheprodigy · 18/09/2024 22:13

I've called it a rave as its literally going to be a rave - its the Prodigy!! The support acts are brill on their own merit. It's a very late finish.

On my own. I'm middle aged. A mother of teenagers. I have a very professional corporate job. But I bloody love the Prodge. Every time they play this venue I've been to at least one of the nights and dragged a reluctant friend along. I have such a good time it genuinely lifts my mood for a very long time before and after.

I was ridiculously excited, and felt really confident about going on my own but now I'm feeling a bit sad and pathetic ☹️

Will I look a state? Aibu to just re-sell my ticket? 😔

Where and when?! I'm in a similar position and not weird! We could meet up.

SpringCalling · 18/09/2024 22:16

I've just bought my tickets for 20th December! Go!!

Danikm151 · 18/09/2024 22:18

Do it!

I’ve been to a couple of gigs on my own now due to friends being ill, i honestly had a blast and could soak up the vibe much better than having to keep someone close by

BlueMum16 · 18/09/2024 22:19

Not been a gig but loads of other stuff including the football on my own.

Technically you're not alone, there are thousands of others there.

Enjoy!

Didimum · 18/09/2024 22:19

Definitely go. I’m off to a gig tomorrow by myself and really looking forward to just being alone!

TheDandyLion · 18/09/2024 22:20

I'm going.

sweetpickle2 · 18/09/2024 22:20

I love going to gigs on my own, you can come and go as you please, easier to squeeze down the front etc. also you’re not really on your own in a crowd of thousands of people!

Anasjwj · 18/09/2024 22:45

no one would even know youre alone in a crowd of people!
go you only live once ! have a great time

comedycentral · 18/09/2024 22:47

Do it! You'll only regret it if you don't. You'll find your tribe there too 😃

seeminglyranch · 18/09/2024 22:50

Definitely go. I agree with others it’s grand going to gigs alone. And tbh the Prodigy are unlikely to be attracting a bunch of teenagers! You’ll be with your people!! Enjoy ☺️

Theyhadalovelytime · 18/09/2024 22:52

Fantastic! You must go, you'll be fine. Whereabouts are they on? I'd love to go myself and definitely middle aged!

Do it! I’ve been to 3 daytime clubbing festival / events recently by myself as no one else was free. Had an excellent time and didn’t regret it for a minute!

Omg don't be so ageist! I've been to loads of gigs where I'm near the front, the young people are always lovely. Jeez 🙄

I don’t even like the prodigy but even I think you should bloody go I went to a Boyzone concert on my own it was the best month ever and I would do it again. You know you’re going to have to a brilliant night so just go.

TofuTart · 18/09/2024 23:07

The only reason I voted you ARE being unreasonable is because of your self doubt!
Get out there and enjoy yourself, woman 😁
(Mother of teenagers here too who loves going out by herself places!)

Heelworkhero · 18/09/2024 23:08

How did you buy a ticket? The site says they’re not on sale until Friday!

To be fair I was a 90's raver and if we'd had phones back then I'd have been recording the drop too 😎

Ihearttheprodigy · 19/09/2024 06:09

Sorry I nodded off 🤣 the irony

And in my attempt at trying to keep it a bit vague I've been rumbled, was trying to make it sound like it could be Brixton but as a pp says they're not on sale yet. It's Manchester and got it in the presale (although I have seen them every time theyve been in Manc, just not at Mayfield venue) so if anyone from work reading yes hi, it is me, yes I was having a major wobble after all my bravado yesterday 😞

Thanks for the encouragement. Woken up a bit more positive!!

I absolutely intend on getting at the front 😃

My 66 year old mother went to a drum & bass rave on her own last month and had, in her words, the “best, most exhilarating night of her life!” 😂

Raves are great because most of the people there are there for the music & not appearances like a regular club night. There’s rarely any trouble and from my experience, there’s always a large age range in attendance which is lovely to see.

You’ll have an amazing time! Even if you are surrounded by those pesky youths with their iPhones, perms, and man bags (🙄🙄🙄)

Stickortwister · 19/09/2024 06:31

I posted a similar thing a few years ago!
I ended up going to see prodigy on my own and it was a great night.
The worst bit was that the sweaty men in the crowd were not fit young ones with six packs any more but middle aged ones with massive guts swinging around., but as my body shape has changed a bit over the years I tried to not let it bother me and ended up nearer to the back where I could dance in peace.
Definitely do it!

NoraLuka · 19/09/2024 06:36

I clicked on this thread thinking it was going to be a music in a field type rave - those happen in my area and I’d love to go, but nobody else wants to and I’ve never been brave enough to go on my own. I don’t think it would be a good idea to be fair!

Prodigy? Go, I hope you have the best time!

Ihearttheprodigy · 19/09/2024 06:36

Awww love your mum for that 😍

You're all right I don't know why I was wobbling about it, every Prodigy gig I've been to the crowd is amazing. All look out for each other. Last year I got chatting to a couple of yoofs at the bar who were lovely (although eyebrow raised when one of them mentioned Voodoo People "wasnt one of their best tunes" 😮) then when it actually started there was a Grandad and his mates next to us 🤣 pretty sure they were on something too 😬

I can't wait!!

Other thing is.....I haven't told DP yet. And he will not be happy 😩

I asked him if he would go with me but he said no, its not for him. Even when I said it meant I prob couldn't go and I'd owe him big time and begged.

So I thought sod it, I'll go on my own.

He's going to be pretty pissed off I think. That I'm ok going on my own. That he'll think it's too dangerous. That it will mean I won't be home till about 2.30am (will get a taxi though).

Might just tell him I'm off for a night out with work 🤣
