To go to a rave on my own?

I've called it a rave as its literally going to be a rave - its the Prodigy!! The support acts are brill on their own merit. It's a very late finish.

On my own. I'm middle aged. A mother of teenagers. I have a very professional corporate job. But I bloody love the Prodge. Every time they play this venue I've been to at least one of the nights and dragged a reluctant friend along. I have such a good time it genuinely lifts my mood for a very long time before and after.

I was ridiculously excited, and felt really confident about going on my own but now I'm feeling a bit sad and pathetic ☹️

Will I look a state? Aibu to just re-sell my ticket? 😔

Have a great time! I'm going to a gig on my own next month and can't wait ( not a rave but a band that's a bit marmite, and I want to soak up the music without worrying about my companions being bored) I am having my second yoof in my 50s as I didn't do it properly the first time round.

I go out by myself and DH doesn't mind, which is the way it should be!
Go on your own anyway, please don't miss out on stuff just because there's no-one else you know wanting to go.

I told him earlier I was thinking of going on my own, just to test the water.

Apparently it will be too unsafe🙄. So I said well I'm going to get a ticket, does he want to come and protect me? He said no. I said no problem ill get just the one, I'll be fine don't worry everyone's cool at their gigs, and he said ill chicken out when it comes to paying.

I saw the Prodigy at the IOW festival in June. They were the highlight of my weekend, they're bloody incredible. When you're leaping about like a loon, no one will know or care if you're flying solo or are part of a group. Go, go!!!!!

Actually mine had a bit of a panic about me getting back to the car park safely late at night, but I said a) it's where everyone parks for that venue and b) he can drop me off and pick me up if he's that worried. Turns out he isn't that worried 😂

I actually am going raving on 2nd November and I'm 44. It's a day rave, a big reunion that's gonna be full of us middle aged ravers probably loads with adult kids, I'm taking my daughter 😅

i go out all night regularly with 2 small kids at home - at least once a month to various clubs/raves etc

I always was able to get myself home before I had a husband and am still perfectly capable

I never understand how settling down means you came still have parts of your old life - surely your the same person!

I'm going too! I saw them last year at Ally Pally and the year before at Brixton (where I'll be this time round in December) and Lord knows how many times before that - the first time was in 1992, I think.

I don't think I've ever not gone on my own? It's not like you can chat, is it?

I’ve been to loads of gigs on my own. Also been to creamfields on my own. I’m in my 40’s. Just go you’ll have a blast

Going out for an evening on your own isn't a problem. Sounds like your partner is, though. I've been to gigs on my own, and travelled round the world on my own. All my DP's ever said is 'Have fun, when do you expect to be back.'

Ah memories, first saw the Prodigy 30 years ago. Seen them several times since. Actually had AAA pass for one gig where my pal was the drum tech for their support act, the foo fighters. 😂 Kind of wish the memories weren't so fuzzy

He's a bit pissed off and thinks I've wasted my money as now I'll "bottle it on the night"

Tbf I've never been anywhere like this on my own so it prob is a bit of a shock for him but in my middle age I'm finding a confidence I never knew I had. 😃

He is quite boring tbh but that's another thread. I still listen to old school house, Prodge (obvs), hip hop etc. which he thinks is weird. Kids say it's fire i'm going on my own, I think that means good??

Good on you! He’s probably just jealous you’ve got the balls to do it. Don’t be surprised if you get snide remarks on the lead up to it and post the gig, but just ignore it.

I’ve found turning up a bit later than i would have done when I was with mates has been key for me not feeling out of place. I tend to find a spot slightly out of the main crowd but in it enough to not feel like a pillock dancing by myself. Enjoy!

I'm 54 and dp is 49, and we go to about 4 raves a year. Fortunately, the older you get, the less of a shit you give about anyone else's opinion 🤣

I'm so glad you're going. You will have a whale of a time, you won't regret it. Like pp said, it's your tribe! They'll have to carry me off the dancefloor, I've still a few good years left in me yet!

Also OP - there are LOADS of old school rave events all the time. Make this the start of a new hobby! 🙌

Will be 1st time I've been since 2000 😆
