Would a 17 year old girl like this or is it cringe?

Bought this for my niece's birthday because she loves animals but now am having second thoughts. She's quite a trendy girl, into goth clothes/makeup etc. Would she be seen dead carrying this? It's weekend bag-sized.

Nemesis Now bags would be more suiting to a 17 year old goth favouring animal lover.

Think you've made a mistake on the colour and print this time.

Oh no way! Nemesis Now bags are so fuddy duddy!

Attitude have much more suitable bags OP

You've been brave OP. A result of that is that she will either LOVE it or HATE it.

quantumbutterfly · 18/09/2024 12:06

I love the batpack !

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/09/2024 12:07

I don't think teens are anywhere near as bothered about what people think as our generations are. They like what they like and they don't care.

GLVF · 18/09/2024 12:07

@StyleSiren How about a leopard print bag? i.e. animal print, not 'of' animals. It is very on trend this season (when did it ever leave?) and might be a bit classier and more sophisticated – if she's into that type of look.

I’m taken by the coffin suitcase myself 😍🖤

Me too.

It's very NCIS Abbie. (which maybe makes it too mainstream to be cool)

Justsayit123 · 18/09/2024 12:11

That’s awful!

This.

Personally I would not buy a bag for a 17 year old! It's way too risky.

Just get her a voucher for a shop and she can choose her own.

stayathomer · 18/09/2024 12:15

Totally depends op, one of my nieces would love that!!!

Threetrees745 · 18/09/2024 12:15

Oh no, please don't get her the "obvious" looking goth bags. They are so tacky and cringe.
That's what I would buy for a 12 year old that was experimenting, not a near adult.

Take this from a type o negative super fan! 🤣

LBFseBrom · 18/09/2024 12:17

It's not suitable for a seventeen year old trendy goth but it is nice, I'd use it (but I'm old :-)).

2k2j · 18/09/2024 12:17

It seems more about what bags others have and how much she wants to fit in/blend in.

My DD is this age and everyone has longchamp le pliage bags. If they can't stretch to the price, they get it from vinted.

I don't like these bags at all and DD doesn't have one - she isn't fussed. But this is what people have apparently.

Aw, rats!
I might give it to an elderly lady friend instead.

What's your elderly lady friend done to annoy you? Save her a trip to the charity shop and take it there yourself!

Nagatha · 18/09/2024 12:22

Just give her a voucher. I know, I hate doing that too but I've also been on the receiving end of gifts like this that someone assumed I'd like, when actually I think it's horrendous. Then begrudgingly used once before sticking in a cupboard/charity bag.

Don't waste your money on something you're not 100% sure she'd like.

I can't say I know anyone who'd use that bag to be honest.

Edit to add, I know people are trying to help but I do find it odd so many people offering up totally different suggestions for bags for a young woman they've never met. Taste is soooo subjective. It's dangerous road to try and guess what someone else deems nice.

RainyJuly87 · 18/09/2024 12:22

I like it OP

Waffle78 · 18/09/2024 12:26

No I don't think she would. Be different if it was a wheelie case. But it looks like a bag me granny would have used.

PeatandDieselfan · 18/09/2024 12:27

I like it. And I would have been very pleased, if my auntie had given it to me when I was 17. But that was almost 30 years ago so my opinion is irrelevant.

timeforanewmoniker · 18/09/2024 12:32

StyleSiren · 18/09/2024 11:48

Thanks for the tip. Those look really tacky to me but what do I know (clearly!)?

Both equally tacky, just in different ways. Although theirs are better printed than the one you bought, which looks to be suffering from chromatic abberation.

AmyDudley · 18/09/2024 12:34

Can you ask your neice's Mum or Dad if they think she'd like it ? They probably have a better idea of what she'd use.
(For what it's worth I like it and would happily use it, but I'm 65 so maybe more of a useful opinion if you decide to give it to your old lady friend 😁)

Cantbelievethatimafoolagain · 18/09/2024 12:34

Looks childish

LoobyDoop2 · 18/09/2024 12:36

I think it’s probably too childish for a 17 year old. It’s the kind of thing a proper adult woman might love because it’s quirky and she doesn’t care what others think, but teenagers have to prove they’re not kids- however cool they play it.

This - three different people who are apparently into the same style have already pooh-poohed the other's suggestion- and they are all likely to be over 17 so the op's niece may very well disagree with all of them!

Just give her some money and buy something small as a token ackowldgement of her interests - lots of either cheaper "obvious" goth skull candles and things in the shops atm or slightly more expensive/niche themed dark academia/fantasy ones on etsy which would likely fit with her aesthetic but also not be an issue if she didn't LOVE - she'll still use it for the smell.

I can't think of any elderly ladies I know who would appreciate this OP. I think it's awful. At least people are being honest.
