Would a 17 year old girl like this or is it cringe?

Bought this for my niece's birthday because she loves animals but now am having second thoughts. She's quite a trendy girl, into goth clothes/makeup etc. Would she be seen dead carrying this? It's weekend bag-sized.

Erm…. It’s kinda gross op 😂

K0OLA1D · 18/09/2024 11:39

As an ALT person myself I would use it. But only you know her and her tastes.

berksandbeyond · 18/09/2024 11:39

A 17 year old goth? No

Aw, rats!
I might give it to an elderly lady friend instead.

Nemesis Now bags would be more suiting to a 17 year old goth favouring animal lover.

Think you've made a mistake on the colour and print this time.

Yes, it's hard to know without asking, and then it would spoil the surprise.

My 16 year old would like it.
But she goes from goth to rock band t-shirts to kawaii to football shirts depending on mood.
She's also autistic and doesn't give a fig what other people think of her tastes.
Would she have need to use a weekend bag that much?

Berga · 18/09/2024 11:47

I'd use it, but I'm a colourful popsy dress middle aged counsellor type. My alt goth teen would be horrified 😂

OrwellianTimes · 18/09/2024 11:48

As a former goth that’s a no from me. But everyone is different.

Thanks for the tip. Those look really tacky to me but what do I know (clearly!)?

I cannot decide if I hate it or love it. 😂 I suppose it really depends on if you can see her using it.

This one also flirts with different styles. She does have a lot of outings/trips to Europe etc.

It's absolutely hideous but perfect for one of my yarn products!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 18/09/2024 11:52

I love it and would use for trips away...but I'm not a 17 year old goth, you do say she like animals though so who knows whether she'd like it.

Could you get her a voucher for a shop she really likes instead, or bung her some cash to be on the safe side?

Willthiswork78 · 18/09/2024 11:53

No!! My almost 17 year old would say that's horrendous. Sorry!

Threetrees745 · 18/09/2024 11:54

Sorry but I think this is quite childish looking for a 17 year old. They are realistically only a few months away from clubbing and pubbing and that looks like a kids school bag 😬

Andoutcomethewolves · 18/09/2024 11:55

I can see the kind of look you're going for (a bit alternative, quirky and different) and it almost works but I think just misses the mark a bit. My 16 year old DN often mixes up her usual goth/rocker look with bold colours and prints and girly stuff and makes it somehow look effortlessly cool 😅 but I'm not sure she would go for this...

They look a lot less tacky than the bag you posted in your OP, at least for a 17 year old goth.

I think the bag you suggest is either for people a lot younger or a lot older.

Scallopp · 18/09/2024 11:59

So hard for us to know, we don't know her likes/dislikes.

Gardendiary · 18/09/2024 12:01

I don't think so op, not for a 17yo goth. I actually quite like it, but I don't have great taste and a penchant for overly patterned things, so don't listen to me!

AmeliaEarache · 18/09/2024 12:02

Black. If she's a goth, default to black.

She might enjoy kitsch pops of colour, but those will be very much individual to her and she'd need to piuck them.

Chimi · 18/09/2024 12:02

Seems too childish for a teen, it’s giving vibes of a nappy bag or a bag for a small child. If she’s quite into clothes and makeup or particular about it, maybe a voucher so she can pick one she’s likes or if you’re close a shopping session together?

BobbyBiscuits · 18/09/2024 12:03

At 17 I probably wouldn't have minded it. But the colours are quite bright which might not be great for a goth girl. I was more 'raver/cyber goth' looking at that time so was into luminous colours. If you keep the receipt she can always change it or get a refund.

Threetrees745 · 18/09/2024 12:04

A bit of a rock and roll vibe is my kind of style but I'm 32 so I try and go for a bit more of an age appropriate and more chic approach but I like this shop and I would choose this bag

There are also some statement canvas totes on there which are maybe more of a teenage vibe.
