I always thought turquoise was defined as a colour halfway between green and blue, so asking if it’s green or blue doesn’t make sense to me, any more than asking whether orange is red or yellow.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 17/09/2024 07:08

Just to throw something else into the mix. What colour is a tennis ball?

Green
or
Yellow?

I think that's the point. It's defining at which point people think they reach the blue/green crossover. My family and I see turquoise differently. I'll say something is green and they will say it's blue. What we would each call turquoise is different.

The test would be better I think if it had a this is turquoise button.

Yellow!

FuzzyPuffling · 17/09/2024 07:09

My boundary was at 174.
I have bilateral cataracts ( not too bad) and I wonder if that makes a difference. ( I'm thinking Monet and his colour perception)

DH just had a go- 187. ( We often disagree on colour naming) Women have more rods and cones in their eyes and hence better colour differentiation. If I remember my biology correctly. Interesting?

That would be a different test, and it wouldn't get the results we're seeing now as people would just tick turquoise for everything.

Of course people know what turquoise is

The point of the test is to distinguish differences in people's colour perception, not to correctly name colours.

And it does that well.

What an interesting test, thanks for sharing it.

Do some people not have an inner voice? How!?

Deaf people?

llamalines · 17/09/2024 07:28

This is mine.

I'll have to get my mum to do one as I'm pretty sure our green blue perceptions are quite different, it would be interesting to see how much by.

We went shopping for towels for her new bathroom once and she kept rejecting nice green towels I suggested.

After a while, she said "what colour do you think the bathroom walls are?" I said "mint green". She said "but they're duck egg blue!"

Turns out I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum to DS - I see green as blue more than 85% of the population, and he sees blue as green more than 86%. This explains why we once had an argument about what MY favourite colour is!!

DH is even more extreme, seeing blue as green more than 93%, and finally answering the question “what colour is the sky in your world?”

sashh · 17/09/2024 07:27

Deaf people?

They do! Why wouldn't they?

Trixiefirecracker · 17/09/2024 07:33

But turquoise is a blue/green so most people have got it somewhere right in the hazy bit in the middle, albeit on one side or the other a little bit but I don’t see the weirdness in any of that! 🤣

TheBlackCatWithTheWhiteSpot · 17/09/2024 07:34

I did the Pantone test and got a perfect score.

But labelling isn’t the same as perceiving.

I call turquoise (as in the stone) green. Because I call things that are a bit greeny “green”, that’s just how I label.

Blue needs to be quite pure for me, otherwise I label it green, purple, etc (I’d probably say a bluey green/purple). Same with red, if it strays from purity I label it orange, pink etc.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t perceive the colour gradient. It doesn’t necessarily mean I see it differently to others. It just means my labelling system for red and blue are much narrower than for green and orange.

mm81736 · 17/09/2024 07:44

Mine is bluer than 93% of the population

My turquoise is green and I found the tiles hue test really interesting. Had a score of 0.
Thanks for posting

@OrangeJeans not to derail but guilty.

I find this fascinating too, you should do an AMA!

Was ok.

I liked this one. And I got a 2, which is damn good for this time of the morning I'd say 😁

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/09/2024 07:53

My boundary is hue 187 (whatever that means 😁) and my turquoise green.

This is brilliant (I got a zero, love a quiz)

PinkArt · 16/09/2024 23:36

There was no option for neither/ both though! There were shades I wouldn't have called blue or green bit it only offered a binary choice.

Same here, can't complete it as I just get blue or green and then turquoise - which is obviously neither.

SometimesNine · 17/09/2024 08:03

Your boundary is at hue 183, bluer than 90% of the population. For you, turquoise is green. Which is not entirely correct, as for me it's a mix of two.

To be fair, the actual turquoise (mineral) is very different, depending on where it is mined. It can be sky blue, teal/robin egg, green.

ilovesushi · 17/09/2024 08:09

I came out at 173, but my true answers would have been turquoise for most of the questions. Turquoise is not just a line through the two other colours.

TheRavenSaid · 17/09/2024 08:10

174
