Could this be passive aggressive fat shaming?

Im a UK 20 and I feel the heat. I’m always a bit warm. My work gets very hot. Big windows and no ventilation.

I rarely put the air con on because as soon as I do some of the woman I work with complain it’s too cold. I bring a desk fan to
work with me and keep it aimed at me and no one else.
I work at a doctors surgery. Lots of the patients make comments about how hot it is in the waiting room. Some even wait outside.Very often woman patients always make a comment on my fan saying how they could never work with a fan as they’d be freezing. If the air con is turned on some woman will comment how cold it is.
I think FFS it’s not you that has to sit in here all day. Men never complain, never comment. It’s mainly middle aged
woman. Yes I’m fat, yes I get hot. I try my best to have a small discreet fan on my desk. But woman seem to make such a song and dance about it.
My husband said today he thinks it’s a passive aggressive way for them to call me fat.
Anyone else think there’s any truth in this?
Is it a way to come across ultra feminine to be cold?
Sorry if this come across bonkers?

So are you saying they are wrapping up warm to piss off larger women?

Do you not think they are layering up to stay warm?

Yes I know women can be very bitchy and PA, you are demonstrating these traits so well.

Honestly, please get some help towards your attitude towards what you call ‘teenie tinies’ i do think you have a deep seated issue.

Is it news to you that women can be really bitchy and passive-aggressive to one another?

Not news to me.
Sometimes they can be bitchy and just plain aggressive:

Dressing like Nanook of the North and making being cold their entire personality - fucking tedious

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 23:03

Erm yes, there are smug skinny women out there who look down their noses at fat women and will do absolutely anything to lord it over them.

Is it news to you that women can be really bitchy and passive-aggressive to one another?

Is this your first day on MN?

Have you never watched Mean Girls?

Well you have definitely illustrated that THIS is true!

I think you have some issues to deal with. You seem very angry indeed at thin and slim women. And you are incredibly defensive. And only you know why.

You think you're funny, that much is clear, but you're actually coming across as angry, judgemental, snarky, and rude.

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 23:04

"I'm a bit cold, can we turn the heating up" - ok

Dressing like Nanook of the North and making being cold their entire personality - fucking tedious

Nobody actually does this, you’ve made up a ludicrous straw woman to beat down just because you’re uncomfortable with people being thinner than you.

Bellatrixpure · 16/09/2024 23:13

GiddyRobin · 16/09/2024 23:08

Oh fuck, you're right!

When I have an office day, I layer up in my thermals, take my biggest cardigan, and make sure I've got tea on hand all day just to get at those fat women. When my fingers turn white, I'm sitting there brimming with glee because those fatties will be able to see just how cold I am!

That time my legs went numb and I fell down the steps outside at lunch? Fucking fantastic, I was rubbing my hands together. When I go home with aching muscles from shivering all day, I get DH to give me a massage and relay to him how the fat women in work were sweating as I was freezing. It turns him right on, knowing he's got a teeny tiny fragile wife.

It must be true, because you've heard all about it. In Mean Girls.

Yeah, somehow i think that’s her thought process.

Comedycook · 16/09/2024 23:16

The pulling sleeves down so they reach the knuckles is a social media trend too...I've seen it on loads of videos, particularly organisation and asmr type ones...it's a thing.

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 23:17

I'm actually a healthy weight now, due to taking Mounjaro. Fairly slim actually, 9st at 5ft 2.

And a lot of teeny tinies on another thread are very upset about it! How very DARE I cheat?! When they have suffered all these years to be skinny!

So I now get treated as a slim person when I'm out and about. But I 100% remember what it's like to be fat and have slim people look down their noses at me.

GiddyRobin · 16/09/2024 23:17

Bellatrixpure · 16/09/2024 23:13

Yeah, somehow i think that’s her thought process.

It certainly seems so.

Whereas in reality, it's so deeply uncomfortable being cold all day. I have Raynauds and typing like that is horrible; A/C is so harsh in comparison to just regular outside chill. My DH is concerned for me, because he's seen me hobbling home or had a call from me crying when I fell over. It's not nice at all. No one wants to be fragile.

Genuinely seems this poster is living in cloud cuckoo land.

I think it's to make it look like the jumper is too big for their tiny fragile wittle bodies.

Or...it's because typing with gloves is difficult? Because having cold hands is horrible?

But no. Must be a social media trend. Not something people have been doing for yonks. It was invented by YouTube.

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 23:19

@GiddyRobin fingerless gloves? Very Dickensian as well! Grin

U need to watch some videos of people putting packets of food in drawers 🤣...long tappy nails and sleeves over the knuckles..

Yeah, and uncomfortable and itchy! But you're a teeny tiny yourself now, why don't you try it and come back with a review? Promise us "hard working" teeny tinies won't bully you.

FasterMichelin · 16/09/2024 23:21

Yabu I'm a cold body too. Do you wear appropriate clothing to cool you down? I'd be very annoyed if one person made it cold for everyone else. Men typically don't feel the cold as much, probably as they have a higher weight or body mass.

It's not fat shaming, but yes, it's also highly likely your weight and size is making you overheat.

outdamnedspots · 16/09/2024 23:22

Hmm. IME, thin women feel the cold more, fat women are warmer.

So maybe the comment was pass agg, maybe not..,

So some people do it, so that means that's why everyone does it? Gosh, better stop that.

You seem to put a lot of faith into things you see on social media.

Omg get some therapy to address your obviously deep-seated bitterness at slim people (even though you take medication in order to be one??!!).

I have a lovely cashmere pair. Not itchy at all. They are fingerless so you can use your mobile when out and about. John Lewis I think. You could easily wear them indoors.

QueenCamilla · 16/09/2024 23:23

What is the temperature in the room?

Unless it's the higher side of 20s, it's really not quite normal to feel "boiling" just sitting down all day. There might be an underlying health issue.

I remember my physics teacher. He was a jolly, overweight man, adored by his pupils. His desk was by a window that was always open. Then, one week in early spring, he started getting increasingly hot. His shirt had sweat puddles spreading from underneath his arms, his face would go bright red at times, he'd wipe a drop from his brow every few minutes and he'd fan himself with paperwork to hand. All of us teenagers noticed it and I don't remember anyone calling his behaviour performative 🤨
And then, a week or two later, he was dead. Just like that, at 43 years of age.

Fabulous! I'll add them to my repertoire of anti-cold items for the office. I assume no one can sneer, as they've been recommended by a (by your own admission) previous fatty.

You do realise that not all slim women suffer to be so, don't you?
I've always eaten exactly what I want. I've put on a bit of weight since the menopause so sometimes have to wear a size 12, but that's okay.
I'm glad you found the weight-loss injection works - dieting must have been awful for you.

So I now get treated as a slim person when I'm out and about. But I 100% remember what it's like to be fat and have slim people look down their noses at me.

So, you're slim now. Do you still believe all slim people look down their noses at fat people?
Even ones that started off fat?

CharlotteBog · 16/09/2024 23:31

I believe thinner people have more surface area and less fat. Both these things mean they feel the cold more than larger people.
That's not a judgement, it's physics (thermodynamics).
Obviously there are other factors (hello menopause!), but in general I think it holds true.

GoldenLegend · 16/09/2024 23:32

CherryValley5 · 16/09/2024 21:24

Or you’re just overly self conscious and looking to be the victim?

What a ridiculous thread. Some people run hot, others run cold. It’s a fact of life.

Rude.

Amethystanddiamonds · 16/09/2024 23:32

I'm not being passive aggressive when I say I'm cold. I'm genuinely freezing due to my poor circulation and low blood pressure. My fingers were painful in the office today and everyone kept commenting on the fact I put my hoodie on to try and stay warm. I mean I can see that it's tedious when you are an outlier, as everyone seems to run considerably warmer than me and constantly goes on about how cold I am all the time. They aren't being passive aggressive just making irritating small talk!
