Glad to see justice finally. These crimes go back to 2003-2008. But what protections are in place now to prevent the same abuse? The victims here were in the care system and so badly let down. Where were the adults who were responsible for these children some as young as 11?

Operation Stovewood: Seven jailed for child abuse in Rotherham

The case is part of the Operation Stovewood inquiry into child abuse in Rotherham.

I also live in the area and the consensus it's that these poor girls were let down by so many of the the people who should have protected them.
The main cause the police/ care homes/ the council were petrified of being branded racist, so they turned a blind eye to the abuse.

Shame on them.

I bet that useless prick George Galloway didn't do a damned thing do address it when he was the MP for the short amount of time that he was.

You are thinking of Rochdale, Galloway has never been a MP on Rotherham.

We have the same labour council and same labour MP since the scandal, the previous labour one had to resign due to corruption. but she has international aspirations and her focus is on that rather than the town.

A number of the abuse allegations included members of the council and a man made a Lord by tony Blair's government was a sexual abuser.

I'm no Tory supporter but the above is why I detest the labour party so much in my town as they have systemically destroyed it.

Yep there Is certain areas that aren't policed even parking warden are instructed by council not to go to certain areas for being considered racist (how can a parked car have a race)

You only have to go and watch the main square or near Clifton park where certain groups hang out and still did during the scandal to see it's still happening even COVID didn't stop them.

Christ if I had a brain that worked

I do not know why I got those mixed up, thank you for the correction.

I'm not doubting you but could you say a bit more of what it is that is happening in this area. We are told by our leaders that 'no go' areas are a myth but unless we tackle it and there is more honesty from the police and other authorities nothing will change.

One of the most damning aspects seems to be the attitude of the authorities that the girls were not viewed as victims for a very long time. Their lives were not valued. It's terrible. I sit through yearly Safeguarding training and there is no excuse for anyone to ever turn a blind eye.

Absolute bullshit. They did it because of laziness, incompetence, and not giving the slightest shit about violence against women and girls.

No, there is a documentary on it. Journalists admitted they didn't cover the case due to perceived racism/fuelling racial divisions and it was one of the reasons that those who went to police were silenced as well.

yankpan · 15/09/2024 15:05

It breaks my heart to hear there's still monsters who target children.

I spent a lot of my childhood in care. Foster care wasn't too bad but once I got to my teens it was always care homes. And these predators would be circling us like prey. Our social workers would warn us, they tried to get police involved but they didn't care.

I won't go into details but there was an incident and I was taken by a man. When I escaped I was taken to a police station. I was then told that as I'd taken money in the past from this man that I could be charged with soliciting. I clammed right up.

It seems not a lot has changed over the years.

I'm so sorry @yankpan . Nothing you did could excuse your abuser. Shame on those adults who put the blame on you and did not protect you. 🫶xx

Absolutely, in south Yorkshire in general there are no go areas in Sheffield Doncaster and Barnsley as well as Rotherham, it isn't a myth, i socialise with people from council who are miliant union people who abhor racism and they even speak about it.

The area hasn't changed despite what people tell you it's still exactly same as it was.

Same as anything else safeguarding and whistleblowing is pointless if you are made out to be the racist one.

Whilst yes many white people are paedophiles, that's always going to be a fact in a predominantly white country. The number of people of certain demographics committing these crimes is higher.

It isn't even the Muslim community who are the problem, it's certain people from a certain section of the community who are the majority problem in rotherham.

I can't name that community as Mumsnet will ban me as they are part of problem.

poppyzbrite4 · 15/09/2024 13:53

Don't forget what the police said, the girls being drugged, raped and blackmailed had made a lifestyle choice.

This is one reason why me and friends I know won’t go to the police due to no trust in them now and my best friend lived with a(not anymore he’s her ex) police training officer who took files of members of the public home, he’s now fired, not sure exactly the reason but you can kind of guess. Some of them (police) are very clever people and think they’re above the law. My parents and prob DB’s in-laws and maybe DB would get police involved but I would not.

TheRavenSaid · 15/09/2024 15:47

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/09/2024 12:40

Big headline figure but between 7, not so long considering what they did. Will they be out early with “good behaviour”?

I’m very glad that their heinous behaviour will be very much frowned upon by fellow inmates. Perhaps they’ll understand how it feels to be fearful every day. Good.

Agree completely

If they had 106 years each, then that'd be fine by me

TheRavenSaid · 15/09/2024 15:49

THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!

Amar, of Elizabeth Way, Rotherham, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault on a girl aged 11 and sentenced to 14 years in prison, plus two years on licence. He was found not guilty of one count of indecent assault.

Ajaibe, of Walter Street, Rotherham, was found guilty of indecent assault of a girl aged 11 and jailed for six years, with one year to be served on licence.

Sadiq, of Richard Road, Rotherham, was found guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and rape. He was jailed for 15 years and given one year on licence.

Siyab, of Stevenson Drive, Rotherham, was found guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl aged under 13 and two counts of rape. He was also found guilty of trafficking within the UK for sexual exploitation. He was jailed for a total of 24 years with one year to be served on extended licence.

Saddiq, formerly of Rotherham, was found guilty of indecent assault of a girl aged 12, rape of a girl under the age of 13 and two further counts of rape. He was jailed for a total of 24 years with one year to be served on extended licence.

Yasin, of Burngreave Street, Sheffield, was found guilty of eight counts of rape and jailed for 13 years.

Bari, of Batemoor Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of four counts of rape and jailed for nine years.

The police response to those girls is enraging. They were powerless, working class girls with no one to protect them and the police told them they were prostitutes or had chosen the lifestyle.

I'm sorry if you've experienced something similar and can understand your distrust.

Meadowfinch · 15/09/2024 15:54

FadedRed · 15/09/2024 12:45

Agree, and even in prison they will be with other like-minded offenders.

Maybe not. They are nothing but dirty disgusting pigs.

Hopefully the general prison population will treat them to a little of their own medicine.

So what you're saying is, if a 12 year old went to the police and told them she had been drugged and gang raped, they'd tell her not to be racist?

When it was reported that asylum seekers were hanging around our local high school trying to pick up the girls, the police ignored, then denied. It took the girls to film what was going on. The police still denied it and said that it was a different location. There were incidents in local parks and shopping areas. That was what sparked the trouble at the Knowsley suites. Eventually we were told that there were arrests, but no charges. We live in quite a rough area were the lads would challenge grown men. That's what protected the girls.

Disgraceful it's still going on. Can you get your MP involved?

Hugglethatmuggle · 15/09/2024 16:05

Still happening in Rotherham.

Portakalkedi · 15/09/2024 16:06

Finally some justice, although no doubt given our feeble system these scumbags will be out again soon. I didn't think the police would dare to actually arrest and charge them as they are non-white, fearing accusations of racism and all that bollocks.

Portakalkedi · 15/09/2024 16:07

Forgot to add, personally I think much harsher punishment is warranted for such crimes, as with the Pelicot case. Castration?

Getonwitit · 15/09/2024 16:16

This is still going on and still our authorities allow it because they are too scared to intervene because they fear being called racist. What a mess this country is in when people are scared to stop Muslim men raping children on an industrial scale.

tanstaafl · 15/09/2024 16:22

They’re rape gangs, not grooming gangs.

Genevieva · 15/09/2024 16:23

These sentences are never long enough for the harm they have caused. Plus, they will be let out early. They should get life tariffs.
