Vinted seller death threat with gun???

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 18:46

AIBU to not understand how vinted get away with their crap customer service.

I bought a counterfeit branded item from vinted. It was obviously a fake. I reported it to vinted as counterfeit (with pictures), who instructed me to ask seller for a refund. Which I did.

Seller responded telling me to cancel the dispute or they'll come at me with a gun? Vinted has been ignoring me messages. Their Help Centre link tells me to report it to the police? WTF is this, and how do they get away with it????

Anyone have experience in this?

I've also been messaging their customer service since 19th of July for a lost item. I keep getting random conflicting responses and get told to wait 6 days, of 28 days, or more days.

But to be threatened by a gun from someone who has my address? Surely there is a legal issue here??

I would report it to the police. That is crazy!

How? Just trying to figure out how to communicated with vinted has been stressful? Would the police even do something about it?

Report to police. Get crime report number and send to vinted with strongly worded email to take threat seriously.

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 12/09/2024 19:15

Police your first port of call. I’m on a few vinted groups, to get your money back go to small claims court. They do refund there. Also make a review on Trustpilot and on the Apple App Store of your experience.

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 19:17

How do I go about reporting it to the police?

OP posts:
alpacachino · 12/09/2024 19:17

That's a threat to kill so yeah you go to the police. Vinted can't do anything about the threat they aren't the police.

Bring your laptop or phone or whatever device you used to purchase the item, and show them the transaction and the subsequent conversation.

This person sells counterfeit goods and threatens buyers with violence - yes the police will be interested.

You call 101

Clumsy12345 · 12/09/2024 19:18

Yes this is a police matter not a vinted one

MonsteraMama · 12/09/2024 19:19

Call 101 and report to the police, keep screenshots of the messages between you and the seller. Vinted are useless at customer service in general, but they are actually right here, they can't do anything about the death threat - that's a crime that the police have to handle.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 12/09/2024 19:23

Well yes. If someone has threatened to come and shoot you, you want to be dealing with the police rather than vinted!

101 is the non emergency police number. Or you can report it online.

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 19:45

thanks, calling 101 now.

OP posts:
BiscuitlyBoyle · 12/09/2024 20:22

Just echo what everyone else had said, this is a very serious threat and the police will take it seriously.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2024 20:26

Of course ring the police !

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 20:43

I called the police, they logged it and they'll call me back. I didnt think they'd care honestly- glad they did!!

Question about my money- can I ask my bank to charge back or something? Vinted has already taken the money, but not released it to seller

will Vinted not make the refund easy?

You call 101

Or report it online. Or via a library, weirdly.

EPankhurst · 12/09/2024 20:52

I found you the email address for one of their CEOs. And some other email addresses including their press office. I'd email every single one of them with a strongly worded letter.

CEO email addresses - E-mails address database lists to find contact details of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Managing Directors - free list - UK - US - Asia - customer services - customer care - boss - top man - top woman - complaints resolver

coldcallerbaiter · 12/09/2024 20:53

I do not agree. Vinted messages has a threat on it, vinted can read it and they could, initiate a refund and BAN the seller. The fact that they don’t says a lot about vinted. EBay would do this more readily.

Why involve the police? It is just a silly wannabe thug, I really doubt they have a gun or would turn up. They should get banned and any pending funds frozen. The end.

I got a half threat on Amazon once, implying they’d doxx me, same thing, fake apple product. I reporated to Amazon, got refunded and I binned the product, and the seller was banned. Handled in 2 mins over live chat - that’s customer service.

Also, vinted blatantly flouts consumer rights and distance selling rules, by not protecting buyers and making them pay to return faulty goods and for if the wrong goods are sent.

The reason to involve the police is that a threat was made against the OP's life. It's very fucking easy to sit behind a screen on mumsnet saying it's a wannabe thug who you doubt would turn up when it's not you who they're threatening.

I agree it is likely just a wannabe thug but the seller has her address and has made threats about coming after her with a gun. I would say that warrants reporting to the police.

I have been threatened twice - once on Amazon and also on eBay, not with a gun but a doxx and other a visit. Both banned, and refund - nobody showed up.

in theory I had their address too, if the returns address was genuine.

Vinted emboldens these cretins, it’s known as pro-seller, which is great if you are a good and honest seller, but it flouts UK regulations.

Justsomethoughts · 12/09/2024 21:10

@coldcallerbaiter you do understand that just because you were safe doesn’t mean that others are also safe, right? This is a completely separate situation and selling platform too. I don’t think you can reassure the OP (unfortunately).

OP you are right to tell the police. And yes vinted really need to pull their socks up.

HazelPlayer · 12/09/2024 21:19

Yup.

A ski jacket described as worn 3 times and having no imperfections turned up stained yellow all over the back and backs of the sleeves (ingrained yellow stains in nylon), it had other marks and looked like it had done numerous ski seasons.

The seller accused me of wanting it for free (her proof was that I'd "offered several times for it, trying to get it cheaper" ...I'd made one offer £2/3 lower and when rejected, had immediately bought it at full price), she accused me of lying, she said that the staking and marks were not "imperfections" (like WTAF), implied she would accuse me of damaging the coat when she got it back and looked at it, and was generally as unpleasant as anyone I've ever dealt with online.

I had to pay to return it, and got no opportunity to leave any feedback - because she refunded.

Surely the items that had to be refunded and returned are the ones buyers do need to leave feedback about (!)

I queried my having to pay to return this not as described item and was told that's Vinted's policy.

HazelPlayer · 12/09/2024 21:22

That pales to insignificance against this.

Fuck me.

They can see that threat and so should immediately close that a count and ban them.
Before any police report.

They are one shite platform.
