Vinted seller death threat with gun???

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 18:46

AIBU to not understand how vinted get away with their crap customer service.

I bought a counterfeit branded item from vinted. It was obviously a fake. I reported it to vinted as counterfeit (with pictures), who instructed me to ask seller for a refund. Which I did.

Seller responded telling me to cancel the dispute or they'll come at me with a gun? Vinted has been ignoring me messages. Their Help Centre link tells me to report it to the police? WTF is this, and how do they get away with it????

Anyone have experience in this?

I've also been messaging their customer service since 19th of July for a lost item. I keep getting random conflicting responses and get told to wait 6 days, of 28 days, or more days.

But to be threatened by a gun from someone who has my address? Surely there is a legal issue here??

Yes ok op can tell the police, they will probably not do anything.

The point is the proof of the threat is in black and white in messages,
So ppl saying it isn’t vinteds job to handle it are wrong. If vinted messaged the seller sternly banning them for threats, it would be on the record. Anyone can in theory come after anyone else over anything, road rage, neighbour disputes, but I have never heard of online sellers coming to blows, I really haven’t, they normally are not in close proximity for starters.

mommatoone · 12/09/2024 21:51

Sorry to be 'that person' 😔 . Yeh they sound like knobheads, and your bound to feel concerned. But do these people have your home address? Ie , is it a real possible threat? Thats what the police will ask you. I know it's sounds a daft question, but I get mine delivered to one of those inpost locker things, so my address not on it .
**sorry OP. Just read that they do have your address. Hope you get this resolved.

Raspberrymoon49 · 12/09/2024 22:01

I had similar OP, reported to Vinted who issued warning to seller which inflamed them even more, “I know where you live” and other such threats, even though item was totally substandard and not as described I paid out of fear, disgusting

Puzzlemad · 12/09/2024 22:09

I wish these resale sites only let people post via systems like inpost lockers to protect all parties personal information.

I could be wrong here, but I'm sure you can adjust your preferences on vinted, so that you only search for this posting option and not royal mail.

I found you the email address for one of their CEOs. And some other email addresses including their press office. I'd email every single one of them with a strongly worded letter.

CEO email addresses - E-mails address database lists to find contact details of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Managing Directors - free list - UK - US - Asia - customer services - customer care - boss - top man - top woman - complaints resolver

you're so kind, thank you!

That pales to insignificance against this.

Fuck me.

They can see that threat and so should immediately close that a count and ban them.
Before any police report.

They are one shite platform.

they've been ignoring me for hours. Ive reported it so many times. Its still there

What happened after?

OP posts:

The police seem to take it pretty seriously. They're meant to call me back tomorrow. I just want vinted to act like grown ups who run a business and give me my money back and admit that this is shit!

will Vinted not make the refund easy?

Fucking hell. Don't even think about small claims court.

What is the returns protocol on Vinted? It they are still holding the money I presume once you can show you've posted the item back to the seller you'll get your money? That's how it works on Ebay anyway.

Yeah the fact that I even have to consider it, its insane. They have a counterfeit policy, the make us pay 'buyer protection' - so why can they just ignore this?

I've spent 2 months trying to get back 4pounds off them for another matter. I cant imagine them being helpful now. The threat to kill me is still in the chat.

How much money are we talking about?

Damn, that's a fair bit.

I don't know much about Vinted so hopefully someone can give you good advice about how to work their system.

It's very upsetting. FYI Ebay is a much safer platform with very robust costumer service and buyer protections. Things are cheaper on Vinted but it's obviously like the Wild West there.

Also, they are probably inundated with complaints and issues to deal with so hopefully they'll get back to you soon.

Thistooshallpass24 · 12/09/2024 23:01

@orangeapple12 you have screenshot-ed it? If no, do then you have proof.
It's a least malicious communication surely?! Hope you get your money back and the police take it seriously

RechargeableGnu · 12/09/2024 23:12

I had this through Ebay and reported it to the police, I went to the police station with all the screenshots.

ForHardyOliveExpert · 12/09/2024 23:21

YANBU OP and PP here haven't actually bothered to read Vinted's T&C's.

It literally says that one must not publish content that
ages or incites terrorism, racism, revisionism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism, hate speech, discrimination, human trafficking, organized crime, illegal organizations, self-injury, suicide, torture, cruelty to animals, apology of war crimes, sexual exploitation of children and/or adults, cults or other unlawful Content,

ForHardyOliveExpert · 12/09/2024 23:21

And as for actions they can take

Taking corrective actions. If we find out you’re doing something that’s against the rules described in these Terms or obviously unlawful, we might apply any of the corrective actions listed below:

send you a warning message that you need to follow these Terms,
remove or automatically correct your Items in the Catalogue,
demote, hide or remove your Content from the Site,
hide private messages you sent so your intended recipient can’t see them,
restrict your Account by blocking your access to certain features (like sending private messages or limiting visibility of your Items to other Users), or
notify local authorities about your activity if there’s a threat to someone’s life or safety.

ForHardyOliveExpert · 12/09/2024 23:22

There's plenty they can do. They just CBA to actually do it.

WTAF.

I take it this in mainland UK?

If they looked at my address (NI) they'd know they'd have to get a plane or ferry costing hundreds of pounds ...and then risk not knowing if I have any paramilitary connections that may result in them being shot back at by people who have way more shooting practice than them .... So death threats wouldn't be very convincing.

Is that how I've spent decades on eBay and now vinted without them?

I can't believe this has happened to numerous people on just this forum.

RechargeableGnu · 13/09/2024 00:07

Yes, UK. About 20 miles from him.

He told me he'd changed the email address, hadn't received the money, accused me of cancelling the transaction (which I hadn't done, I wanted his item) but so weird as went from fine to threatening very quickly.

Never dealt with anyone quite like it before or since!

All mine were through Ebay's own messaging service!

polkadotpixie · 13/09/2024 05:34

I've seen this loads on the Vinted FB pages, they normally send you a photo of a gun. It's just to try and get you to back down, it's unlikely to be a credible threat

Also, unless they wrote it down at the time or saved the address label, they won't have access to your address anymore once the item has been shipped

Does anyone have any tips on how to get vinted to respond? I keep getting automated replies. They've just messaged me and told me to look out for a message from the seller....?????
