Vinted seller death threat with gun???

orangeapple12 · 12/09/2024 18:46

AIBU to not understand how vinted get away with their crap customer service.

I bought a counterfeit branded item from vinted. It was obviously a fake. I reported it to vinted as counterfeit (with pictures), who instructed me to ask seller for a refund. Which I did.

Seller responded telling me to cancel the dispute or they'll come at me with a gun? Vinted has been ignoring me messages. Their Help Centre link tells me to report it to the police? WTF is this, and how do they get away with it????

Anyone have experience in this?

I've also been messaging their customer service since 19th of July for a lost item. I keep getting random conflicting responses and get told to wait 6 days, of 28 days, or more days.

But to be threatened by a gun from someone who has my address? Surely there is a legal issue here??

Beyond going to the daily mail what can I do?

@orangeapple12 return the goods and do a chargeback

  • if goods or services turned out to be faulty, counterfeit, or defective (you will need to return the goods in order to get a refund in this case)

How do I go about reporting it to the police?

Oh for heaven's sake. You walk into a bloody police station. With your laptop / phone to show the evidence. Don't leave until you have your crime number.

How did it even occur to you as an option to NOT report it to the police?

Did it not occur to you that being nasty isnt helpful? Or does it give you a nice little bolt of power? I was asking HOW. I ended up calling 101. If you have nothing constructive go away. Nastiness is not wanted.

"Surely there is a legal issue here??"

Yes, there is. Which is why vinted is advising you to go to the police.

This is shocking.
i agree Vinted customer service is utter crap. They barely reply - do they actually have any customer service staff?? I wonder if it’s just a facade. I do still use it and think it’s a great function in todays used clothing market but they’re Customer service does need to be improved. Agree EBay’s customer service is very good generally. I think Etsy is dire all round!!

And I told you how: travel to police station, walk into it and say "I need to report a crime".

What about a man with a gun at your door: is that "wanted"? Sorry if you viewed it as nastiness to try to give you a much-needed kick up the backside on this, but I really think that when someone who knows where you live is threatening you with firearms and you still seem more preoccupied with the customer service at Vinted (and seem to think that Vinted are somehow going to do the job of the police) it's justified. Trying to help someone not get shot seemed (and still seems) rather more important than worrying about whether I might slightly wound her feelings.

🤦🏻‍♀️ You earlier post was unkind and pompous. If you are unable to give advice without being sharp maybe you shouldn't bother. I regularly disagree with OPs but I am able to give a different opinion without sounding like a dick.

What you told me was shit advice. I called 101, as others suggested.

Im sorry you feel the need to speak to another adult this way. It is nastiness and it's vile. Im not sure who in your life tolerates this, and hasn't called you out on it- but I won't tolerate it. Stop speaking to me. Your advice is not needed.

It wasn't shit advice: there are at least two ways to report a crime, and calling 101 is one, and going to the station is another. They're equally valid. (I don't think I have anyone in my life who would need to be told that).

You sound completely hysterical. I wonder if you lack someone in your life who will call you out when you're being a bit silly.

No I'm neither hysterical nor silly. I'm telling you, calmly, that your petty opinion is not valued here. Go away.

FWIW going into a station isn't very good advice these days. Many don't have a public desk that is manned most of the time - you press a buzzer outside of the station and if you're lucky you get put through to 101.

Hi Orange Apple 12
I am looking into this for a news piece I am working on (I am a television producer) - would it be possible to contact you directly? I am happy to pass on my email.
Many thanks
Louisa
