With children who will just admire the view in the car, and who will appreciate the delights of historic sites without the added attraction of a playground, and who can be taken along to dinner where they will join in with adult conversation...

I don't get all that.

Rice cakes are banned from out house, because thy are the most non-nutritious, tasteless pieces of shite that I have ever had the misfortune to try. Plus the apple organix ones smell of poo.

moreJellothanJlo · 20/04/2008 08:44

well I'm perfect, don't know about you lot!

msappropriate · 20/04/2008 08:44

I can't understand why parents just can't say no, we do the playing after the castle/museum etc. Even my son who is no angel will submit to that. Rather than moan it exists for those who have kids who like a bit of exercise after something more confined and quiet. I don't moan there's a cafe because I've brought a picnic.

msappropriate · 20/04/2008 08:45

Mine would eat the meatballs and leave the sauce. They regulalry do that with pasta and sauce.

SheikYerbouti · 20/04/2008 08:46

Agree, Msa.

I think those playground things are useful bribery tools.

ha ha riven. I could say 'well ds1 never answers back or swears'. Presumably never will either (unless we teach him to type in which case I will teach him to tell SW where to sling their hooks )

Agree with you about would like to be more organised. It would make life easier, but sometimes life takes over. You're dealing with enough as it is.

bossykate · 20/04/2008 08:49

well put, msappropriate. i think some parents on mnet couldn't last 5 minutes with lively, physical kids tbh.

belgo · 20/04/2008 08:51

I love those play areas. Or rather, dd1 loves them.

matildax · 20/04/2008 08:54

saying no, in a ideal world would work msa, but what if the kids have seen other kids larking around on the said play park, wouldnt it be really cruel to pull your child away?? isnt a family day out about everyone having a good time?
Havent you ever been to a soft play, and inside the soft play that you have paid say £5 per child to get in, they have other activities inside that you again have to fork out for?
now that pisses me off, and many other mums i have talked to, so when you go to say a castle or something similar, and there is a play area, normally there is a ice cream/burger van in attendance also, and thats when pester power really comes into practice!!!
it just gets on my nerves, this over stimulation of kids, can not be imo a good thing..

"saying no, in a ideal world would work msa, but what if the kids have seen other kids larking around on the said play park, wouldnt it be really cruel to pull your child away??"

You say. "Right 10 minutes then we go into the castle and you can have a go at the end".

It's really not rocket science.

BubbaAndBump · 20/04/2008 08:59

Sheik, you've made (perfect) me and my (perfect) DH piss ourselves laughing with your ricecakes comment on previous page, thank you!

I often share my yummy biscuits with my yummy (and perfect) DD - but that's actually cos she's a greedy little pig monkey and moves quicker than lightning when sugary choccy biccies appear! She's not quite 1 though, so haven't had the play park / museum situation, but if there's a listeria-infested Mr Whippy style ice cream van nearby, I'm damn well getting one for me, so can't very well deny her one!

matildax · 20/04/2008 09:01

im not here to argue, how to parent yurt, i am just giving an opinion, albeit different to your own.
i was only sticking up for the op on the leeds thread, imo she never claimed to be perfect. i dont think if we are honest that any of us can.

bossykate · 20/04/2008 09:04

i agree, yurt1, it is not hard at all. matilda, that is how you achieve balance for all the family!

ScoobyDoo · 20/04/2008 09:06

Actually i read many threads & think alot of people act like there perfect but you can so tell it's all a load of ball

AbbeyA · 20/04/2008 09:11

I think that if you met them in RL it wouldn't be quite as told on here!

bossykate · 20/04/2008 09:13

i agree, i think there is a great deal of "talking up" here.

belgo · 20/04/2008 09:15

Matilda - I di get annoyed at a recent trip to a Zoo where we had to pay for a go on the rides inside the zoo.

It really is incredibly hard to say no and risk a public tantrum. So I compromised and said one go - but did resent the one pound it cost for a couple of minutes fun! (having already forked out a small fortune to get into the Zoo in the first place)

georgiemama · 20/04/2008 09:18

3andnomore · 20/04/2008 10:25

Oblomov....no, I don't automatically think bullshit....but I do take any posts with a pinch of salt...especially when people say things, oh I never ever wold do this , that and the other.....I always just think, oh never say never...because well...you just never ever know, lol!

But I truely do think that people have a tendency to talk themselfs up in an environment where they can't be proven to be different....much harder to do that in real life....

3andnomore · 20/04/2008 10:28

lol at hecates post.....you almost described me there....well, I am 5'6 and got blond hair....hehe

KatieScarlett2833 · 20/04/2008 11:15

Georgie, what does your score mean? This is great, just like a cosmo quiz.
