To not understand the obsession with ‘doodle’ breeds

Eg: labradoodles, cockapoos etc.

They are absolutely everywhere! Why are people actively seeking out and paying pedigree prices for dogs that are effectively mongrels? Behavioural problems are all too common, not to mention hereditary health issues due to poor and unethical breeding - I am a dog owner and the vast majority of doodles, ‘poo’ breeds etc that I meet are incredibly hyperactive, with owners who have no clue how to deal with them. Obviously there are exceptions, some are lovely but as a rule of thumb they’re dogs that I tend to cross the street to get mine away from.

The breeder who created the labradoodle calls it his ‘life’s regret’ - that speaks volumes in my opinion!

I've never mentioned class.
I'm certainly not jealous in any way, shape or form of your poorly bred mutts.

But do carry on with the justifications, excuses and insults. It's giving me and my dog-loving friends a good laugh.

I think you'll find you're the one that started with the insults, but whatever... what a lovely bunch you all must be. Having nothing better to do with your time than sharing mumsnet posts and sneering together. The conversation you all have must be absolutely scintillating! Enjoy!

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 16/09/2024 14:02

@WalkingonWheels are you this offended by all the poorly bred pure bred dogs?
Do you make scathing comments about the owners of pugs? Bull breeds that can't breathe? Shar peis that need operations on their eyes? King Charles spaniels that go on to experience brain conditions? German Shepherds with ridiculously sloped backs? Breeds that suddenly have a Merle option, even though historically they do not?
Are you this active on posts about them?

"I'm certainly not jealous"

Sure 😉

I really don’t understand what the issue is. It’s fine to not like certain dogs.

Tbh I'm not even sure why you're replying when I was speaking to a different poster.

Course it's fine not to like certain dogs. It's weird when there's a thread about it and a certain poster has to continually make sneering remarks.

Of course it is. It's a bit odd creating a whole post about your dislike for "doodles" though. I can only assume it must be actual poodles you don't really like seeing as they're the only common denominator. The breeds they're mixed with are mostly quite different, so they're not going to have the same temperaments. You don't mix a dog with a poodle and suddenly it behaves like every other poodle cross regardless of what breeds are in it.

Not sure how many times on this thread that I'm going to have to say I am offended by ALL breeders that are not reputable 🙄

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 16/09/2024 15:36

But are you as vocal, @WalkingonWheels ?

I know for a fact that my dogs parents were both health checked, came from family homes, and he was bred with health and temperament in mind over how he looks.

I also know that he's not in any pain or discomfort, is perfectly healthy, and most importantly - can breathe.

I can't imagine wasting time sneering over dogs like him, when there are dogs in households all across the country that can't even fully close their eyes, or walk the length of their garden without struggling to breathe.

'Doodle' hate actually seems quite lazy, when there's all the above issues that you could be spending your time on.

Ha, that sounds remarkably like when the school-yard cow ropes in her many "friends" to lend their support.
All mah pals are laughing at ye! (no pals, anywhere to be seen, ever)

That may be true but the constant accusations of "jealousy" are equally school playground orientated. Straddling the fence I'd say it's pretty much six of one and half a dozen of the other regarding juvenile cattiness at the moment...

I think it's not the dogs per se but the person who is likely to get a doodle breed that's problematic; in my area they seem to be people who want a cute dog, often for the kids' amusement, but have no clue about training and handling them so they don't run up in the park and knock over people's stuff/stick their noses in your picnic food while the owner, who clearly hasn't taught them recall, shouts ineffectively and then chases them around, which of course they think is a game.

This tends to be the case with any popular, easily available dog with a reputation for being a good family dog.

Poodle crosses are popular and available at the moment so you see a lot of them with young families.

But if it wasn't those dogs the same people would be buying golden retrievers or cocker spaniels or something else.

Aw, it's cute that you're trying to make out that I don't have any friends. Rest assured, there is a large group of us on a "real" dog group who are exhausted with picking up after doodle breeders, and are finding this all both amusing and frustrating.

Not in the slightest, just responding with an eye roll to the "we're all laughing at you" tactic which is groan-worthy at best on an adult forum.

If you have friends on a "real" dog group that's very nice for you.
Marshalling them up to press somebody on an unrelated group - school-yard.

Oh... cyber friends! That explains it. For a moment there I thought you meant "real" friends and I was a bit baffled. At least you have a "real" dog to keep you company though.

Daft people paying an over inflated price for a mongrel - because that’s all they are. 🤷‍♀️

Not mongrels. Mongrels are when you don't know which breeds your dog is made up of. Not that there's anything wrong with them anyway. HTH

AddictedToBooks · 16/09/2024 16:55

My vile (ex) next door neighbour has a cockapoo that she never trained or controlled and it used to go running across the road, escaping, going into other people's gardens and crapping and jumping up at strangers and constantly barking and howling pretty much every single day and night - yet she used to actually turn her nose up at our two (trained and secure at all times) Border Collies and she go on about how wonderful her dog was and above ours "because I bought her from a breeder" ............ our Border Collies are both rescues but they're also actual pedigrees (not that I really care because I love them to pieces anyway).

This post is actually more about my ex ndn and her snobbishness though tbh

That's not true in the slightest. Doodles are absolutely mongrels.

Oh, and I have plenty of real friends too. However, since I became disabled, I can't attend the same events that I used to, so don't see them as often. Nice try, though.

HTH.

That may be correct. However after responding quite sensibly and not swiping at anybody, I was met with snide comments and cattiness. I'll respond in kind. Especially when they're refusing to accept corrections to their misunderstandings about basic thingsm

And this kind of behaviour is normally caused by jealousy tbh. It affects their lives in no way at all.
