To be sickened by a couple who piles on the PDA every time one of them gets up to go to the toilet?

I’m currently in a restaurant, and there’s a couple at a nearby table who are going overboard with the PDA. Every time one of them gets up to go to the toilet, they kiss, hug, and basically act like they won’t see each other again for years! It’s making the atmosphere uncomfortable, and I feel like I can’t enjoy my meal without being subjected to it.

AIBU to think this level of PDA is just too much in a public place?

Why do you keep looking? Unless you are dining alone, the person opposite should , at some points, hold your attention enough that this is an irrelevance.

CrouchingTigerHiddenChocolate · 10/09/2024 20:44

How many times are they going to the toilet during one meal for this to be an issue?

WheresFluffy · 10/09/2024 20:44

Avert your gaze

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 10/09/2024 20:46

Maybe one of them has diarrhoea extremis fatalis and it may well be the last time they see each other?

I am dining alone, which might explain why I’ve noticed it more. But even then, it’s hard not to see when it’s happening right in front of my line of sight every time one of them moves. I get that a bit of affection is normal, but the intensity of it each time just seems excessive in a restaurant setting.

Well, the first time; they both got up together to go to the toilet. They both stood up, and kissed for like 2 mins, so I thought one of them was leaving or something. They vanished for 5 mins, after the big kiss, so I thought they had gone but they went to the toilet.

10 mins later, the lady got up and went to his side kissed is face off for 5 mins, went to the toilet and came back. Then shortly after, the guy went to her side kissed her face off and went to the toilet and came back!

So 3 times so far in like half an hour!

If Mumsnet deems YANBU what are you going to do?

They are in the early throes of passion, bless them.

They’ve gotten up 3x in the last half hour. Together, her on her own, then him on his own. Big sloppy, mouth open moving kisses before each departure

Gettingbysomehow · 10/09/2024 20:53

Yeah I would hate that. Its so over the top, get a room. I don't know what PDA is though.

Haha, you might be onto something! If that’s the case, I’ll let them have their dramatic farewells without judgement. Better safe than sorry!

In the last 30 mins they have spent at least 15 minutes in the toilet or kissing?

They are probably sending each other dirty pics, or running off to call their husband/wife.

You never know… Maybe the PDA is just a clever cover up while they’re secretly swiping away when the other isn’t looking. Modern romance right?

They'll be normal in a few months time.
