AIBU to think I will never get a refill for my (£620) pen?

I have a few pens that I use, one of my favourite being my Chopard Brescia. The pen still sells on Chopard's website, but I am finding it hard to source refills for it.

www.chopard.com/en-gb/rollerball-pen/95013-0439.html

I'm in a bit of a panic now as I installed my last cartridge for it today. It writes lovely, but worried as have ran out of refills for it now. I normally use a Parker Duofold or Cross Townsend for day-to-day use, and my Brescia normally only comes out when signing important things (quite sentimental!).

Does anyone have ideas as to where I can source refills for the Brescia? I can't seem to see them for sale on Chopard's own website, and Selfridges didn't have any in stock when I visited recently.

Probably missing the point again but do the pen fans on here know you can get rollerball pens that take fountain pen cartridges or converters so you can use any colour ink? Blew my stationery-obsessed mind when I discovered them!

No!! What are they and where do I get them?!

pollymere · 10/09/2024 22:34

I would try Fortnum's (Can't remember if they still sell pens though, sorry), Liberty's and Harrods. Oddly you might also get lucky with somewhere like John Lewis. There is a pen shop in one of the Arcades on Piccadilly but that might only be for Cross.

Not expensive enough. How can she show off, with such cheap trash?

Why so nasty?

Some people have expensive cars, houses sunglasses, holidays, handbags, shoes.....

The OP has a pen and she uses it. It will last her a lifetime and then she can pass it on. It won't end up in landfill like a cheap biro.

I have a Parker ink pen that's over 35 years old. It's so ancient it has a squeezy refillable cartridge inside, I still use bottled ink. When I die my son will have it. Its not worth anything in monetary terms, but it's precious to me. Like the OPs pen is precious to her and she wants to be able to use it. It's not a crime.

I have spent £150 on a pen for a gift before. It really is quite lovely writing with a nice pen (I tested it)

She got her answer on page 1 and this is 11 pages of people being nasty. Why? Does it make you feel better?

I’ve just been drifting back off to sleep thinking about this. Ended up with the 12 days of Christmas stuck in my head but with a twist..
”on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…. A cartridge for my posh pen”

Back to sleep I go!!!

Nothing wrong with collecting nice pens. I collect teapots but I try to find them a cheaply as possible!! Might have to look into pens, my trusty Parker is missing!

Goodtogossip · 11/09/2024 10:17

Can you not purchase refills from the Chopard website or query where you can purchase them from locally?

So what, are you suggesting that people who have money shouldn't post on AIBU? As that is where you're going down this line. Or do they need to be overly sensitive with their wording just not to offend those without? Wow, I am a terrible person as I have more than one pen and have "established myself as a true collector" hahaha!!

This place is completely losing the plot!!

I would spend £600 on a pen if it gave me what I want, I'm a fussy twat, but fortunately I found one that's only a couple of quid.

I would NEVER spend 1000's on a hand bag, it doesn't float my boat - at all.

i would spend thousands on a (cycle) bike (well before I had my (non bike) accident. It wouldn't be worth it now!

or on a camera, kayak or a number of other things.

you can spend your money on WTF you want.

its a pen you ENJOY using, not a writing improvement tool. 😵‍💫😵‍💫

you can use it for dot to dot if you want to!!

hope you get cartridges you're happy with!

I love a nice fountain pen. I learned to write with one aged 8, and have used one the rest of my life, through school, college, Uni and my career. Got a Parker Duofold, but it’s got an italics nib. OH bought it for me one Christmas, early in our marriage and it’s a treasured possession, used at least weekly. I often get asked to write things like wedding place cards, things like this by family and friends. I love calligraphy as well. Writing with a quality fountain pen is nice, I’ve always loved handwriting cards, address labels, sometimes the occasional letter.

Use a very fine syringe ( got mine on auction website ) then you can refill any ink cartridge with your own quality ink, I've been doing this for years and you can blend your own shade of ink

@Libre2 mine is this one https://www.online-pen.com/rollerball-campus-colour-line-shopname-/61152/3d found it in tk maxx and I love it! I'm about to go and see if I can get them on Amazon or cultpens for gift purposes 😁

Edited for typos and to add these take international standard ink cartridges or converters and I've used lots of different inks but not the sparkly ones yet - they clog my fountain pens so don't want to bugger up the rollerball!

It's like saying don't buy expensive clothes unless you have a supermodel body.

Some people have money and will always have money.

Same as some who are poor will always be poor.

Then the middle ground where it's swings and roundabouts.

I'm in the middle, but love beautiful craftsmanship even if I don't have the budget for it.

It's not triggering to see expensive things, even if so, surely you wouldn't click such a thread or be on any social media at that.

I've had this tab open for a while as it came up when I was searching for a skipping rope. As if!....

But can almost feel how good it would be to hold. 🤤

’Bragging’ seems to mean ‘posting at all about expensive things’ to some. Why shouldn’t she? Because you don’t like it? Oh well. Don’t engage then.

Please don't listen to the negative comments, our money is our own to do what we want with.
I wouldn't spend that amount on a pen but have recently spent £400 on a outfit to make me look like a psychedelic fawn so each to their own!

@technosausage I need to know what a psychedelic fawn looks like, please.

I love fountain pens. And inks. Midori paper. And leather journals. 😍 I don’t have £620 for a pen but if I did, I would definitely own one.
Tell us more about the pens!
